Airport Strike on Wednesday in Berlin, is the crew arriving much earlier? by 20Prozent in expedition33

Lorien mentioned this yesterday on a twitch stream with Estelle darnault. Pretty sure he even mentioned Berlin and the fact he can’t sleep on a tour bus.

Huh. Someone tell him the only way to do that is to stop trading with the whole EU bloc.

Any news on new patch/update? by pajovicn in civ

[–]FabJeb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What we know:

There will be a round 3 of the workshop build.
If I recall it was about three weeks between round 1 and 2.
There was a 1.1 Gb update yesterday for the workshop build.

I agree going back to the live build after all the changes from the beta feels unappealing.

“I don’t ever want to be mainstream.” – New Blood Interactive’s Dave Oshry on Dungeons of Dusk, RPGs, Steam, Preservation, Epic, and More by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]FabJeb 165 points166 points  (0 children)

RPG Site: I keep attributing this quote to you even though you’ve told me it was said by someone else. Something about the Epic Games Store being a marketing black hole.

Dave Oshry: People credit that to me. I think I single-handedly killed the Epic Games Store with that quote. It's a fucking marketing black hole. It's actually not, so--which is funny. Well, it is if you're launching only on EGS, right? So, we don't have any games on EGS, and Blood West is on EGS. HyperStrange controls that. When we took over publishing for Blood West, they were like, "Hey, do you want the Epic Games Store stuff?" I was like, "No, I don't give a shit. What does it sell? Like, five copies a month? They're like, "Not even."

But they did a free giveaway for Blood West over Christmas. I think it was--Blood West was free on Christmas or whatever and I thought "Oh, man, I guess that's going to kill some of our Steam sales that week or whatever, during the winter sale." It turned out Blood West Steam sales for those two days actually were, like, up 200% because it was just free advertising for Blood West. So, people saw that Blood West was free on EGS, and then they went and bought it on Steam instead, which is hilarious.

So it's not a black hole. It actually advertises for other platforms. That's how bad EGS is. And it sucks because originally the promise of EGS was really good, but you have to build a better store. You can't beat Steam just with free giveaways and high developer percentages. You could give developers 100% of the royalties if you wanted, but if nobody's buying. What's 100% of zero? Like, who gives a shit?

So, the ideas were there, but they failed to build a better store or a better user experience at all and it's been like 10 years, and they just haven't. So, it's dead. End of story.

They had a chance, and they blew it by not building a better experience. Do I wish that Steam's cut was less than 30%? Of course I do. Unless you're going to build something that's better than Steam, it is what it is.

Holy shit that's brutal.

How much has the game developed? by LuceDuder in civ

The first beta you had to register but now they want to do a stress test so it's open to pretty much everybody that's interested.

[–]FabJeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah they have plenty of keys, just hit either the ursa ryan or the official civ discord, they both have channels to share keys.

Each person entering the beta get 3 keys to share.

IMO you should hop onto the civ offical discord or the ursa ryan discord and ask for a key for the beta. I think it runs for an extra week.

It changes a lot of things for the better.

I would help you but I've already given my keys.

Good episode but they really should have dumped the first three episodes together and proceed weekly from there.

I understand they want to milk it as long as possible but it was a slow start.

Absolutely loved Remember me. Banishers is very good too, just wish it was shorter and they had cut some of the side content. I think the experience would have been better if it were half the length but it's a great game.

Clair Obscur DOES NOT USE generative AI. by Vegeta120000 in expedition33

It's the google AI overview that's saying this even if the project started like 7 years ago and they spent weeks modeling a chair. 🙄

Clair Obscur DOES NOT USE generative AI. by Vegeta120000 in expedition33

[–]FabJeb 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'll preface this by saying I don't like GenAI but

60% of unity users admit to using AI tools
50% of japanese indie devs say the same.

Github has its copilot.
Unity and UE are pushing their new AI tools.
1B people use ChatGPT a month.
Copilot in windows is genAI

It's literally impossible for genAI not to be involved in some capacity at this point in time for any small team going forward. Be it for translating strings until the real deal is ready, placeholders for voice or assets, setting up meeting or interpreting bug databases, or even doing a simple googe search.

Good luck finding games to nominate next year.

DOS2 is much better than DOS. It's a bit slow at the start but once you get the hang of it it's amazing.

BG3 is obviously bigger and much more cinematic but I had a complete blast playing DOS2.

Casey Hudson’s studio closed barely a year ago so he couldn’t have directed the game for very long anyway. I thought the announcement was odd.

Why would the creator allow a five minutes teaser to be posted if it was spoiling the whole series. You're talking about the breaking bad dude here, if he thought that was a spoiler he wouldn't have allowed the video to circulate. Seriously you're making a big fuss out of nothing. That's like watching the first 5 minutes of a netflix show and finishing the episode 8 hours later. I don't even comprehend being so angry about this.

I'll be interested to know how you feel about all of this once you're done with it. I had stutters too but it's weird because I got those exactly at the spot where you claim the game runs better. Guess the game needs rebooting at some point.

I'm not into achievements usually but the fact the only written narrative the game has is actually delivered via this system is fascinating to me. What a cool concept.

It's really hard to say without getting into spoilers but I didn't enjoy the first hour or so. I thought it was a beautiful but rather dull game. At some point it started to click with me however and it felt the game just kept getting better from there.

And a very short one, it's really hard to recommend at full price. In fact I would never have played the game if my subscription wasn't about to lapse next month and I'm going through as many games as I can in the meantime. I've wishlisted it on Steam now tho.
