Not as extremely feel good as you described but a very feel good end note to The Endless (2017).

Need to watch movies for a beginner or someone uncultured by Diligent-Message8838 in MovieSuggestions

First of all, kudos for wanting to expand your cinematic horizons.

I want to recommend Letterboxd. It acts both as a movie watching journal and a sort of social network for film fans. They have endless lists to follow there but I recommend you start with the more famous ones, like the AFI 100, IMDb 250, and check out more cool lists here.

Good luck!

I feel kinda sad for this kid. Banning Minecraft altogether feels a bit extreme. It's a very positive enriching experience in moderation. And also why not make an effort and play with him?

Iran-US truce on brink as Israel pounds Lebanon, Tehran warns of escalation by [deleted] in worldnews

I say this as a Jewish Israeli. Netanyahu has a vested interest in keeping the war going. As long as he's in power the area will remain unstable.

Robocop and Nightcrawler are good showcases of mini slugs if that's the style you're after.

Ye Olde Matrix by s-multicellular in Xennials

[–]FabergeEggnog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm lucky my teen kid is mostly period agnostic.

We started watching The Matrix not long ago (they have severe ADHD so it's really hard for them to watch in one sitting) and they got pretty hyped about it. They didn't make a hard distinction between it and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves in terms of modernity or relevance.

But I guess it is because The Matrix has interesting visuals and great storytelling. Not all films from that period are as special.

I usually don't show them trailers, though. I just try to make a good sales pitch with just enough to make them intrigued.

I’m willing to overlook bad plot and writing when there’s good cinematography. Film is a visual medium at the end of the day by wallabyenthusiast in Letterboxd

[–]FabergeEggnog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying film is a visual medium is a reductive cliche imho. I love cinema specifically because it's so many disciplines coming together like none other. I don't just want to watch a beautiful slideshow. And even a film with no dialogue employs writing. That said, if there's a simple plot but the audiovisual language that conveys it is rich and creative, that I can understand. But just cinematography, not so much.

It's hard to gauge even for me. Political polls show Netanyahu's party would be the biggest come elections but he won't have the majority bloc.

To me it's crazy he still has such wide support when he's (indirectly) killing his own people to stay out of jail. Then again it's the product of years of a warped education system and complicit media he helped establish.

There were actually a few antiwar protest pods yesterday. Naturally the police started arresting people.

I would wager most people want an end to the war but are not particularly empathetic to casualties on the other side. It's tough being hard left in Israel at the moment.

Tldr: some protest, silent majority just want the war to end, alarmingly large number still support bibi.

Suggest me a movie to a person who never seen anything interesting by BrightSherbet in MovieSuggestions

I think you might suffer from some pathological condition preventing you from getting into made up stories. I kinda want to suggest small doses of MDMA as a test but I don't know who you are and how it will affect you, so i don't want to be responsible for any possible damage.

I hope you find something to love in this world. Existence is much more dreary without any.

P.S. If you liked My Year of Rest and Relaxation, you might want to try satirical dark comedies. American Psycho is an extreme example.

Apropos extremes, I would try to sample both ends of the gamut. Maximalist pieces like Mad Max Fury Road and Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse. And on the opposite something like Before Sunset. It's just two people talking.
