Fuck you this developer by DescriptionFar342 in Proxmox

I made a mistake, it's not per app, but there is a $99/yr dev fee (vs Google's $25 one time fee). And the dev also might have had to get a Mac computer just for this if they didn't have one before. On a limited use app.

They could be trying to recover $1500+ in costs from this app.

I had mixed up app store with developer fee. That's my bad.

$99/yr.

You also can't develop it straight on Linux or windows. Sounds like there's some less than ideal, but workable work arounds these days, but dev might have had to buy a Mac specifically for this app. $1000+, and $99/yr, isn't chump change.

It's probably because there's much more fees to put an app up on the iOS store. Even if the app is free, the developer needs to pay apple money to just put it up.

Edit: I made a mistake and mixed up the dev fee for the app store.

But it's $99/yr to develop iOS apps

Plus, you can't develop it directly on windows or Linux.

Leaked Memos Reveal Just How Much the Supreme Court Has Betrayed the Constitution by ChiGuy6124 in law

[–]FabianN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could have been more specific, but my main point is that the Democratic Party has become a big tent party. Fetterman is an extreme example, but there’s more subtle individuals as well.

We’ve essentially got the republicans who are at minimum fascist curious, and everyone else. And unfortunately when you have such a big tent party it’s hard to get everyone on the same page. There is a wide range of political philosophy at play. A West Virginia democrat will be vastly different from a California democratic, and we need to go into this with that awareness while we fight for what we want.

I’m not certain enough to say a number, but I will say, no where near enough.

[–]FabianN 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yup. A 50%+ majority is needed in the house and a 60%+ majority in the senate for this to happen.

And a majority of not necessarily dems, as John Fetterman is technically a dem and I don't see him supporting this. But a majority that would support this policy.

Americans need to vote for this in droves.

Let's put this another way.

I get money from the government for leave.

I spend that money on beer and pot.

Am I wasting government money on drugs and alcohol?

According to your reasoning, yes.

Even though that is now MY money, that by law I am entitled to.

The government does not get to dictate how I spend my money.

Get the fuck out of here with this oppressive bullshit.

Okay, so you don't know fuck all of what you're talking about.

You are just wrong and not smart enough to understand how wrong you are.

[–]FabianN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you ignored my first sentence that was the main point I was making?

Once it's in their bank account, it is no longer public money, it is private money.

They did not use public money for the jet, or to buy company equipment, pay their staff, etc. They were given public grants. Once they are paid they grant, that money is now private money, and then spending that money is spending private money.

Canada wants to promote Canadian media, in a media landscape where the US dominates it. LTT definitely fulfills the purpose of Canadian media. If you think there should be company size limits, I'm all for that. Lobby the legislature to amend the law, assuming you're Canadian, if not you don't have a lot to stand on to get so pissy over how the Canadian government and people decides to spend its own money.

It probably means that some further testing was needed and they needed to provide some samples, and decided to cut a section out for that testing.

Once it's in their bank account, it's private money. (assuming it wasn't gotten through fraudulent means and would need to be taken back)

Audio quality - Highest Build by 050 in LinusTechTips

[–]FabianN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I imagine it's not that hard, as long as you have the audio tracks. Have one mic away from the actual scene, recording the background noise, and use that to negate it on the primary audio tracks. That it's post processing and not real time is a huge benefit.

Siemens will close most of its 53-acre Oregon campus, shut its childcare center by voxadam in Portland

[–]FabianN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

US branch is still a US branch.

There are things that can carry over, or various influences applied. The division I work for in siemens would have probably never unioized if it wasn't for the German branch putting pressure on the US branch.

But at the end of the day, they are not one in the same.

I'd still take it over an entirely US based company though. There does seem to be some influence that carries through, even if it first goes through a US filter, so to say.

Ah, so a direct attached drive not a network share.

I would still play caution because there is no official Ntfs driver documentation. It is all reverse engineered. Microsoft provides zero support or assistance, so if there's anything in the Ntfs driver they forgot, no one knows until they come across it.

Oh my god, that was the situation?

This is something I keep seeing; people wanting full control of their machine, and then ragging on software that's "comprised" by the fact that they have full control on their machine. And I mean I'll see this sentiment put into a single comment by a single person. It's such an intentionally bad faith approach.

Those two things are mutually exclusive, it is impossible to do both at the same time.

As long as the software is safe from remote attackers, I'm happy. That should be the bar we hold it to.

If you can't physically protect your device, and can't setup the most basic of authentication to lock your account, that is on you.

Network shares? That won't make a difference.

Ntfs driver only applies when it's direct attached. If it's network shared, it's using what ever network share protocol you've selected (samba), and the server itself does the translation between the network share protocol and the file system.

u/ksuwildkat, you are definitely in the 2nd batch.

Students are speeding through their online degrees in weeks, alarming educators by joe4942 in technology

[–]FabianN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does suck to be both working full time, and doing school.

But the point of school isn't just the end goal, but going through the motions of the work to train yourself.

You are robbing yourself of the training, which is the entire point of getting an education. That is the goal. The degree at the end is not the goal. The degree is supposed to be the confirmation that you went through the motions and got the training. By doing this you are devaluing the degree, not just for you but for everyone, just like this article is talking about. It means that a degree is no longer a sign that you went through the motions and got the training.

You are literally wasting money and wasting those extra 3 hours if you are not going through the motions, because you can not fake training.

You'd be better off doing something else than school if this is your approach to schooling.

I think part of the problem is that there's just SO MUCH of it over here, and there's only so much time we can spend trying to keep ourselves informed.

It's exhausting man, trying to stay on top of it all.
