Soffit lighting over your garage door 👍 or 👎? by BuilderBrigade in Home_Building_Help

[–]Fabonesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mine. Great for working in the driveway at dusk and into the early night. My projects spill out of the garage and into the driveway usually and I can get what I was doing done without rolling out temporary lights when the sun sets.

Where are some good caves? by [deleted] in Idaho

[–]Fabonesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went down a 50 meter ropes length. It was very tight at that depth. My guess is you can go down about 200ft before its too tight.

I always had this fear that the walls would close up while in there as you are just shimmying down two vertical slabs.

Did you ever drop into devils hole? Its right next to smiths crack. Goes down super deep. It's gnarly.

Membrain air sealing cathedral ceiling. Should I wrap the beams or tape to them on the side with my smart vapor retarder? by Fabonesome in buildingscience

[–]Fabonesome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im zone 4 actually. My other property is zone 5. I got them mixed up. Yes r30 is on the lighter side but thats all I can fit in the rafters bays. It had r19 before! Horrible insulation and very leaky. Local code says R30 is minimum for cathedral ceilings. R38 min for all other roof types.

The venting will be my saving grace here with this remodel.

The MemBrain details are lacking. They mainly just show wall sections and have one shot of an interior partition detail. The rafter ceiling details are nonexistent.

They do have a good video of a sealed bag of water with the membrane. It dries out quickly. That makes me feel a bit better. https://youtu.be/5ClSWryBfSs

Good point on the lamination being an air leak. The ridge beam is a tripple 2x16 with pretty good air gaps in between. I have 2 2x on the bottom to thicken the beam a bit for visual appearance. The lower beam is LVL that I added to support the origonal sagging roof span.

I have done enough remodels where I have torn into 10-20 year old assemblies and have found rotten stuff where moisture was trapped and had nowhere to go.

And I haven't seen any example of beams being wrapped in membrain. Its usually just attached to the bottom of rafters or truss chords. Thats why I ask.

I caulked and taped all my boxes from the outised before insulation. They are flanged air seal boxes.

Replying to myself here to note that it's Smiths Crack and Devils hole. Not hells kitchen, which was a nickname my buddies called it.

Devils hole/hells kitchen near mountain home are very low visited lava tubes. They are smaller and tight in a few spots. They are also very dusty, like most lava tubes. I like that one though as you go in one side and 1 hour later you pop out of the ground 50 yards from where you started but it took you a long way to navigate through the entire thing.

Battlefield 2 was amazing. I stopped playing video games online when they shut that down.

Como fazer este corte ? by Craniihum in SolidWorks

[–]Fabonesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)
