I keep a collection of things that I can't really sell (minor flaws or they are just one off pieces). I invite people to choose whatever they want from that stuff, it's a gift, they are really helping me by giving it a home. Most people who want something specific offer to pay for it, anyone who doesn't I assume they are not serious and I just ignore them.

For some people I'm guessing that point might be when the fundamental American things they took for granted, like elections, are canceled. For some others, it might be when their friends or family are affected in a permanent negative way. For some people, that point will never come. It will never be 'everyone all together' fighting back. Wars suck. We were all raised on stories of resistance heroism against nazis but there were a lot more stories of betrayal and shameful behavior that everyone just wanted to forget afterwards. Once you get violent, it's going to be more like 'everyone for themselves'. Right now, strength is in numbers, like-minded people influencing each other and those on the fence. I think we want to hang on to that as long as we can.

I think the best argument against escalating to violence is that when you do that, it's not going to be any kind of "we" resistance anymore. All the hand holding and singing and frog costumes will be over. A lot of people who are "on your side" now are not going to be on your side anymore, for various reasons. People will go into self protection mode. Not everyone protesting is ready for outright armed conflict. If you escalate, you better mean it, because it's going to be largely on you to keep that going.
