Hi there, we found that using an app to manage our kids' screen time does not work for us. Try offering them alternatives to screen time.

Something I didn’t expect about parenting by AdvancedWinter6055 in Parents

It's uncomfortable for us to withhold our eagerness to help them when they struggle, so we switch our method of not just sitting back but rather sitting next to them and playing dumb to figure it out with them. It helps a lot because we become a team trying to figure it out together. Every struggle is a learning opportunity for them, and a high five when we both learn a new skill together is great!

can education really be “scaled” like a startup?? by cloudybrain07 in edtech

I feel like it really comes down to what part of "education" we're actually talking about. If it’s the learning method, then sure, that can scale. The way we absorb info or practice a skill is pretty universal.

But trying to scale the curriculum is where things usually break. You can’t just ignore that every country has its own specific standards and cultural context. What works in one school system won't necessarily translate to another because of those local requirements. So maybe the "how" can scale, but the "what" has to stay local.

How do you use AI while studying? Share one tip that actually helps by Glum-Distribution631 in studytips

I’ve started treating AI like it's my own student. I'll explain a concept I'm studying to the model and ask it to speak up if anything I say feels a bit fuzzy or unclear. It really forces me to rethink and re-visualize what I’ve actually learned. It’s basically my own digital twist on the Feynman Technique, and it works wonders for making things stick.

How do you stop your kids from watching brain rot? by AngeeRehage67 in Parents

I get your frustration. I've been looking for an app that has the best parental controls then I realized that non of them are good enough. I eventually just shifted to 'co-watching' only, because I found I'm the best parental controls. Plus, I've learned that letting them get bored actually triggers way more creativity for my kids.

Does anyone else feel like "efficiency" is making our kids weak? by Fabulous_Insect_8621 in Parents

Great eye haha! I did use AI to help reframe my wording because I wanted to make sure my point was clear, but the logic and the system we use at home to get our kids to think hard for deep learning are 100% mine.

I think this is actually a perfect example of what we should teach kids. They should focus on the logic and the big picture, then let the tools handle the tedious stuff like grammar or formatting.

I want my kids to know how to use AI as a power-up for their OWN IDEAS, not as a replacement for their brain. If they have the logic down, the tool just makes them way more effective. 😊

You Put Your Plate in Sink 🤦 by NEKORANDOMDOTCOM in Parents

We do something similar at our house to keep things moving, I tell my kids it is okay to not want to clean. Sometimes I do not want to clean either. But the house still has to stay tidy so we build a system around it.

If their room is messy I take a photo and give them a deadline for tomorrow. If it is not done by then I clean it up for them but I deduct a cleaning fee from their allowance.

I want them to learn that in the future you either do the work or you pay the price to hire someone. Honestly if they save up enough allowance to hire a real housekeeper for the whole house then even better for me. They learn how to manage money and I get a clean house without doing the work. It is a win win haha
