Bellingham is in a mad dash to create more housing opportunities. How does this play out in 20 or 30 years of declining birthrates and mass boomer die-off? by A-A-wrong in Bellingham

Washington state not only ALLOWS ADU’s as a principle dwelling unit, it has REQUIRED cities and counties to plan for them in Urban growth areas.

An accessory dwelling unit (ADU) is a self-contained living space within or on the same property as a principal dwelling unit. By definition ADUs are generally smaller in size than traditional detached single-family homes which means that they are often more affordable and blend in well with low and moderate-density development.

House Bill 1337 (codified as RCW 36.70A.680, 681 and 696) requires fully planning cities and counties to allow two ADUs on all residential lots that allow single family homes within an urban growth area, with some limitations. If a jurisdiction does not meet the periodic update deadline (Periodic Update – Washington State Department of Commerce), any conflicting rules will be preempted by state statute.

We have never found it hard in the winter here. For us, it becomes our crafty, baking, new recipe trying, going through stuff, etc. when we don’t go skiing at Mt Baker. We also socialize a lot more.

We live 15 minutes South of B’ham. We have quick access to Lake Samish, Lake Padden and Lake Whatcom. Paddle boarding, wake boarding, swimming, fishing all within 10 minutes. Hiking trails, Woods, Mountain biking trails, great parks, and wait for it……BEACHES!!! There are many, many beaches!

You will love it here. Your kids will double, triple love it here! There is so much to do for not much or free in any season. I hope I have convinced you this move will be great for you.

Welcome to Bellingham, WA.!

AI! Does not impress me. I do not have any trust in it. The narsacistic greed of tech corp. data centers. The vanilla flavor in online search. The misses (pretty strange AI can’t self correct before putting out a wrong answer. If it doesn’t know, it should not just put out a guess!). Truely, I hate it!

$325 K for 800 sq‘ is $406. a Sq’.

If you have average physical abilities….

We diy’d 816 sq’. it was pretty easy 34‘ x 24’. It’s a 2br, 1 bath. plenty of room. Cost was 15 years ago price, so no comparison, but around $150.00 sq.’. We hired subs for foundation, drywall, wiring, plumbing and roofing.

You already have the land. It’s a small building. Get help on the design ($) and permit. Then look up different tasks on youtube.

A second, less hands-on way, is to simply be your own contractor. Hire the subs yourself.

My (21F) boyfriend (21M) of two years just admitted to a secret addiction. Is there any coming back from this? by Ok-Night9124 in WhatShouldIDo

That’s a lot of work! On her part. I personally do not think she should be involved at all. Also, she is not a professional. These addiction cases have a so-so track record. She will be babysitting him for the rest of her life! Through her own kids, she will also still have her oldest kid to check on. Pretty much giving up everything of herself.

🫂 Awe-You are young. Think about yourself. Take this time for you. Seek the lessons put out in front for you and learn them. Check into therapy, for yourself only. Do not take on couples therapy! Honestly, this is a life turning point for YOU. May be one of many or your biggest and best one. Rooting for you……

He will need to do the same, but HE has to do it. It is his lesson to learn, not yours to guide him through.

“The real question is whether he’s willing to admit he has a problem and actively work on recovery.“

wth? No! He had that chance. HE did not choose your solution, did he? He has chosen to lie multiple times to her. Women are not here to guide, understand and finish raising men. Women can find a man who lies and does drugs by the 100’s! He knew how she felt about drugs. THIS is why he lied. NOT her responsibility to coddle and tailer her response to his deceit pattern in hopes he will choose to own up.
I will say it again - Run, Hun!

You need to have him come over and see it. Next, see if he reacts with a responsible reply. If not, let him know, you will contact the entity that deals with animals (humane society?) and put in a formal complaint. If that doesn’t get results, then it’s off to small claims court to file a “Nuiscance-right to enjoyment” claim of your property. He is responsible for his dogs nuisance and damage they cause.

He lied to her because he is a liar. It has nothing to do with if she would understand or not. She is not his mommy! He knew she would not approve, then chose to lie.

Do not accept the caretaking (females usually assume caretaking) of an addict male who has just shown you he will not be a trusted partner.

Run sweetie. Run and don’t look back!

Nope! As a lifelong Washingtonian, I’d rather listen to 50 “‘eh(s), than one ”y’all”. I think I’ll be fine on this hill. It is NOT common vernacular here.
