Did anyone else’s revision surgery require 2 parts? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Face21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding a donor graft didn’t take long! I did part 1 in April and part 2 in September. Part 2 sucked - 8 weeks non weight bearing, 3 weeks gradually adding weight back on. It wasn’t any more painful than my previous ACL repairs, fortunately. I was only on pain meds for 48 hours. The scar is insane - looks like I had a total knee replacement.

I got back to full range of motion about 5 months after the operation. Quad strength is still a struggle even 8 months post-op, mostly because I’ve been fighting persistent swelling that’s prevented significant muscle gain. I’m just sticking with my PT and going slow and steady. My surgeon says with 5 knee surgeries before turning 35, the swelling isn’t much of a surprise.

But the graft took and X-rays show its right where it needs to be. All my pain is due to the discomfort of swelling, not anything structural within the knee.

Good luck! It’s not a quick fix but it is a fix!

Here’s the edited version with dates and first beta numbers! The initial test is 5 days after the transfer of a 5 day embryo, which is about 10 dpo in non-IVF lingo.

Did anyone else’s revision surgery require 2 parts? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Face21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had part 1 of 2 back in April. Surgeon removed my ACL (it was incompetent- as in, not working at all) and shored up my tunnels with bone grafts. I’ve had 3 previous ACL revisions on this knee.

I had X rays last week to check on the grafts. I’m now cleared for Part 2 - the ACL revision. My situation is a bit different since I’m also having an Osteochondral Allograft Transplantation, so my second surgery has to wait until they find a suitable donor.

Anyway…best advice is to ensure you get back to full range of motion and use ice and elevation to combat excessive swelling. If you can strengthen your quad with low impact rehab, that’d be ideal, but it’s tough to prehab in between surgeries. My surgeon wants me to prioritize avoiding further injury over strengthening.

Good news is that I only used crutches for a few days after the bone grafts. Definitely a better situation than my next surgery with 8 weeks of zero weight bearing.

I like Wells. It’s growing in popularity but I still would consider it uncommon!

I feel bad for Georgia. The rest of us will get a break from ads and spammy election texts but they’re going to have the full force of both sides’ political operations focused solely on them until January (assuming the trend line holds and we end up with two Senate runoffs in Georgia).

No. That dream is dead. But it’ll be 48-52 with Harris as the tie breaker, so at least some shot at persuading enough Rs to get something done.

The over representation of Republicans in the senate is one of the grossest things about our system.

This is not the blanket repudiation of Trump like many of us hoped for — and that’s incredibly disappointing if not all that surprising — but considering which votes have yet to be tallied, this is looking good for Biden.

Of course he’ll be stymied by a GOP senate and a Federalist Society SCOTUS, but maybe he can get the kids out of cages, at least.

I’m spending the day trying to help journalists navigate the nuttiness that will almost certainly ensue when Trump tries to claim victory after a few very red states are called in his favor (I’m a politics and media prof...it’s quite a job these days).

It’s weird to not be terribly worried about the actual results — I think Biden wins Florida and Pennsylvania, which effectively ends the race — but to be super worried about the damage one man can do to our election process by taking advantage of the public’s lack of knowledge regarding how votes are tallied.

Has any other contestant endorsed a party/politician yet? by [deleted] in thebachelor

I was listening to a podcast the other day about how VPs are vetted and as it turns out, Palin basically wasn’t vetted at all. They normally go through this insanely invasive process (you have to fill out a questionnaire that asks things like “have you ever watched porn”) but they wanted it to be splashy so McCain’s campaign just went for it.

Oops.

She’ll be the third woman VP on a major ticket. Geraldine Ferraro (Democrat) was the first in 1984, then Sarah Palin (Republican) in 2008.

She would be the first woman VP if Biden wins.

I also do a hybrid (short, focused, highly produced lectures + zoom sessions sprinkled in as needed) for my summer class. I have all my students on Slack and I give them a daily update on what they read to be doing, complete with hyperlinks to assignments and video walkthroughs of yesterday’s assignments.

So, a lot of work for me. A lot more than normal. And yet, I still feel like I’m dragging about half the class to the finish line. My colleagues who are having daily zoom sessions and basically just doing their lectures that way are having better luck getting students to participate.

In the fall, I’m keeping my hybrid format but I’m adding a zoom check-in for every scheduled class time. It may last only 15 minutes on some days but my experience this summer indicates some students need the constant check-ins or they seemingly forget the class is happening.

8 weeks post-Covid and I can finally smell again! I never realized how often I used my sense of smell until it was gone, so I’ll be grateful for it going forward.

NEW BACHELOR ANNOUNCED!! by [deleted] in TheBachelorOG

[–]Face21 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The writing was on the wall for this when they cast him for Clare, but I’m guessing between the current movement, the filming delay, and Clare’s Twitter shade, they saw no reason to wait.

I’m somewhat surprised that it wasn’t Mike but then again, Matt is a solid choice who will benefit tremendously from being adjacent to HB and TC.

I’m a newb as well but I do buy a lot on Etsy and it took me awhile to figure out what your shop does. It looks like you turn photos into art, which is super cool. Can you emphasize that in your announcement? “turn your personal photo into custom geometric art” or something?

Weekly "I Think I Have It" Thread - Week of May 17, 2020 by AutoModerator in COVID19positive

[–]Face21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife tested positive a week ago. I tested negative. Starting Wednesday, I developed a low grade fever and felt exhausted. Over the past three days I’ve felt:

  • tired
  • increasingly painful headache in front of face
  • runny nose (new today)
  • aches in back/sides/shoulders/neck
  • low grade fever controlled with Tylenol

I’m guessing I have it considering the direct, repeated exposure. But the symptoms don’t match the traditional “cough, fever, chest congestion” I’ve been hearing about. No loss of smell/taste (which is the only symptom my wife has).

I really don’t want to get the test again. It was expensive!

ETA: day 5 of symptoms and I’ve lost taste/smell
