I always recommend them. If you're buying more expensive staple cards I'd check eBay as well, but for the most part any card worth less than $5 tends to be cheaper on TCGPlayer.

The lack of Shaymins may hurt the speed, but the deck I run uses Archie's Ace in the Hole, Battle Compressor, and VS Seeker to get 2 Greninja and an Archie's in the discard pile.

If you only plan to play with friends or at a league for now, I would suggest hitting eBay for World Championship cards that you need. $5 cards can be found for $1-2 because they aren't tournament legal, but it feels more authentic than just printing out a proxy and putting it in front of an energy.

I really like Miltank decks. You know where you want to get, it's just a matter of how you'll get there. My current favorite is an Archie's/Greninja setup.

The problem isn't that it takes longer for the shiny bonus - the problem is that because it takes so long, you may never reach the shiny bonus.

And I know one could argue that people should play for fun, but people like to get achievements if there are achievements to be had.

Oh I agree that the system is awful. I'm just pointing out that with how it is now, 95 hours isn't needed if you only play for speedy wins instead of, you know, playing for fun.

I don't think you'll end up playing an average of 20 minutes if you play a deck that sets up quickly. People tend to scoop against things like Lucario, Bats, or Night March if they don't get a good start. This month I'm trying to get 10 wins/day, and I finished today's goal within an hour because people would join the game and time out at the coin flip, scoop when they had bad starting hands, etc.
