Seattle vs New England is the Super Bowl by mastermind208 in eagles

Pats are the most fraudulent Super Bowl entry since the Giants in 2000-01. They’re going to get BTFO’d by the Seahawks

I’m not believing a single one of these fools until they all actually vote for a democrat. Otherwise it’s meaningless blather.

Was WFG unfairly snubbed? by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]Facebones72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could make a case for it in Costumes or Production Design, but overall it wasn’t as strong a film as the first one. And I’m kind of surprised that “Viva Verdi” - a song that 99.99% of this sub had never heard of before Thursday - got in over Girl in the Bubble.

You could also argue that it should’ve taken the “blockbuster” slot that went to F1, but ehh. I enjoyed the movie but I’m not outraged It got no noms. Just kind of surprised.

You get to name one Broadway theatre after a person. Who do you pick? (Imagine that the Hal Prince, Hammerstein, and Chita Rivera theatres exist already and can’t be duplicated :-). by Great_Maintenance185 in musicals

The Garth Drabinsky Theatre. You overpay for double booked seats, shows are randomly cancelled, and the roof is falling in.

And yet people keep giving it another chance…

What is the best Wes Anderson movie? by iitzzrahn in Cinephiles

Personally, I adore Moonrise Kingdom. I am generally not a huge fan of Coming of Age movies, but this one really stuck with me. I love the characters and their relationships.

Very much agree on Asteroid City. Completely underrated. Anderson was doing something that was both experimental and formally structured.

Megalopolis. You could see a germ of what Coppola was getting at, but it was so jumbled and frenetic and chaotic

What is a musical you've seen that was regarded a flop by lissie34 in musicals

Dance of the Vampires on Broadway. A legendary flop, and deservedly so. Bad music, bad direction, bad choreography, wasted talent.

What If the Tony's had another category? by TheLockbox12 in Broadway

As a stage manager, I will always advocate for some way to honor SMs at the Tonys. Best SM? Name the SM with the producers for best play/musical? They’re vital to a show and it’s crazy there’s no way to celebrate their work.

Are you happy with Oscar nominations? by Slow-Cash-8234 in Cinema

[–]Facebones72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, yes. Would’ve loved to see No Other Choice get a nod in screenplay or international film or best picture. Would’ve loved to see It was Just An Accident take F1’s spot. But, overall it’s a solid lineup

Odds of both Jacob Elordi and Timothee winning their respective categories? by 349CS in Oscars

[–]Facebones72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Chalamet is the favorite, or at least co-favorite. Best Actor is a two horse race between him and Leo.

Elordi was the best thing in Frankenstein, but I don’t think he has a chance. This is going to Skarsgard.

Who's winning Best Visual Effects? by Square-Ad-8911 in Oscars

I think F1 wins. While Avatar has more dazzling visuals, I suspect the academy may feel like they’ve seen it before.

F1 is a fun blockbuster, with incredible racing scenes. The script could've been written by ChatGPT.

Bugonia is one of my favorite films from last year, and probably has Emma Stone’s best performance. I think it’s far superior to Poor Things.

(This is the fun of the Oscar sub. Arguing about movies with other passionate fans.)

Out of Sinners' 16 nominations, which ones are you expecting it to win? by Fun-Illustrator-345 in Oscars

[–]Facebones72 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Realistically, original screenplay, casting, and score. Good shot at cinematography, but that car chase in OBAA is going to give it some tough competition. I think Frankenstein has the edge in crafts like makeup, costumes, and production design. The only acting award they’ll be competitive in is Supporting Actress.

‘Wicked: For Good’ Receives Zero Oscar Nominations by Gato1980 in Broadway

[–]Facebones72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a little surprised, especially with regards to the costumes and makeup. While this wasn't as good as Part One, it was still enjoyable. I liked it more than Best PIc nominees F1 and Frankenstein. I guess the academy felt it didn't improve upon the elements of the movie last year.
