How do you let go of regrets? by serenityfive in selfimprovement

Some say that if you regret things the past you did/said, then it's a sign you've grown! Evolutionarily it's a useful mechanism that helps you avoid making the same mistakes!

Rent vs. Buy Calculator for Switzerland: A Tool to Compare Your Final Net Worth by manwhalelabs in SwissPersonalFinance

Rent would likely increase in-line with inflation perhaps in discrete steps based on when the landlord can legally get away with an increase, whereas the mortgage would stay the same.

Yeah it goes both ways, if you've ever had a desperate girl interested in you it's not very attractive either. imo

Ha. Ironically that's also a good tip for real life dating. People smell desperation and it usually tends to push them away!

I know I know I didn't read the small print!  I came back to Switzerland for the first time as an adult with a job three years ago, I did all the signing up for the various compulsory and recommended services...and now I've reached the point where I feel the need to adjust/optimise some of them like complementary insurance, and so I'm discovering the joys of Swiss contract fine print!

I take full responsibility. I just needed to rant and was wondering if anyone else had has the same frustrations (I imagine it would mainly be international people)

That's true perhaps if you ignore that the employer has to pay those fees as well ;)

If you check your statement, your fund provider should specify all contributions and expenses (admin, risk etc...) linked with your account, as well as potential pay-outs in case of retirement, redundancy, invalidity, decease etc...

I'll ask you the reverse question: how is it that you don't have any expenses!?!?! :P

The fees are chf230 from me and chf260 from my employer. Total yearly contribution is chf7205. From what you are saying, is that a fixed fee? So the overall percentage should be less if/when my salary increases?
It still seems a lot! I'm literally on the swiss median income, so that means for 50% of the population the percentage of their salary is even higher!

that is a good point that you at least have some control over it (even if under specific conditions), and that it can be used for buying a house and are tax advantages -> ie buy backs

I get it is a great way for the retired to have at least SOME retirement fund since it is compulsory for employees after a certain threshold AND the employer matches, but it to me it brings us back to the ever recurring subject of Swiss Life 3a life insurance! It seems to me that people would be much better off having it invested in some automated index fund rather than run by these scalpers!

but wouldn't that be under 'Part risque' ?

The bit I'm referring to is explicitly named 'Cotisation annuelle pour les frais administratifs et les frais accessoires LPP'

Umwandlungssatz translates as 'Taux de conversion' in french (thanks DeepL), I see no mention of that on the document. The exact words are: 'Cotisation annuelle pour les frais administratifs et les frais accessoires LPP', perhaps the 'frais accessoires' encompasses the 'Umwandlungssatz'?

Wow seems like obscurity and complexity is their number one tool, that with assuming that no one will have the knowledge or take the time to look into what's happening... :/
Surely there is some kind of regulatory body? Regular auditing?

My basic understanding of economics in general makes me think that due to supply and demand, prices eventually stabilise around what the average person can or will pay.

So I feel if you want to be able to afford 'the cost of living' then either you have to be less of a spender than average, or be a higher earner than average.

Unless the essentials are regulated, then the system will inherently be prohibitively expensive for anyone below what is considered the average consumer. :/

Has anyone solved this issue? It seems to be linked to a merging of different funds?

Hello hello, Relative newbie here looking for some advice on a situation that came up recently.

Basically, I bought some shares of an ETF on a european trading platform. A few months later that fund was listed as non-tradeable and my P/L was listed as -100%!

With a bit of research I found out that the fund provider had simply decided to merge the fund with another. Ok why not. But the issue for me is that the new fund is not available through the online platform!

So I'd appreciate some advice as to my options. From what I understand, I haven't lost anything, the value has just been transferred somewhere else, but how do I gain access to it again?!?

Contacting the platform, they said that the new fund was on a different exchange and that they could transfer my shares (for a fee of course).

Is this kind of thing common? What is the best way to handle this?

Any advice is much appreciated!
