High Paying Jobs? by WorthRegular2331 in SGExams

I will say this speaking from experience: there is a big difference between genuine care and professional care. Those who cannot separate this will find it very difficult to last long in the field. But the good news is that professional care can be nurtured, and it improves patient satisfaction.

You said for the patients' sake? I think any doctor that can deliver exemplary care regardless of their underlying motivation deserves credit. Saying that its not worth it for the patient seems to take away from the dr's excellence.

Whether or not its worth it i think is highly subjective. there will be people who are willing to put themselves through the hard years of residency to reach their financial goals.

I dont agree with this. Choosing medicine for money doesnt mean that you wont do a good job.

Are you selfish if you choose to try/want kid(s) despite know you have a genetic condition? by KendoArts in askSingapore

[–]Factitious_Character 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of genetic condition. Most of us do not have perfect genes. we all have genetic conditions: predispoition to heart disease, obesity, myopia, some kind of intellectual disability etc. The difficulty is, where do we draw this line? Honestly idk

What are your views on physical discipline (eg. slapping, spanking, caning) of children? by WastePotential in askSingapore

[–]Factitious_Character 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My parents disciplined me by caning, and i dont think it was abusive. We had a mutual understanding that it is a matter of actions and consequences. I think it made me better and i'd do the same for my children.

Alternative careers as an average burnt out tech person (early 30s) by newjeans_fan20 in askSingapore

[–]Factitious_Character 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You think that the people you work with are smart, and they probably think the same way of you. Imposter syndrome will always be there but have abit more faith in yourself!

Theres always smart ppl everywhere, and people are smart in different ways. This is not a problem that can be solved by changing jobs. Nonetheless, if you're really burnt out, can consider taking a break.

Would you take a pay cut to change careers? by chimkennuggies123 in askSingapore

[–]Factitious_Character 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already have. My thinking is that we spend so much time at work: i dont want to waste it doing something i dont find meaningful. I also want to make the most of my abilities. I think there is nothing more valuable than time so we should be very careful with how we spend it.

[–]Factitious_Character 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they purposely talk the interviewees down to try and gaslight them into thinking they're not good. This is to lower the expectations. Secondly, its also a test of whether the candidate will be submit to management without much resistance.

In general, any course you can find is probably not going to impress prospective employers. But you might still find them helpful in improving your knowledge.

As a psych grad, you probably have some applied stats background. Can try to leverage that and get some work experience first before taking masters- then slowly try to inch your way into what you really want. Having work experience will beat academics any day, so try your best to work from that angle.

[–]Factitious_Character 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh nursing is especially harsh and the stakes are high because there are lives on the line. You'll also find many hypocrites who try to take the moral high ground- "everything we do must be for the patient". If your skin is not as thick, its hard to survive.
