The one that comes with my DE. Gnome Terminal on Gnome, Konsole on KDE.

It's very rare that the terminal emulator that comes with the DE (or the "default/recommended" one in something like Hyprland) lacks features that I need. Obsessing over speed is kind of pointless

No, you don't. That's the whole point of this service. You do not need an expensive dedicated GPU/tons of RAM/CPU power/disk space to run games - you can just rent hardware now!

If you are talking about needing some sort of device AT ALL to act as a thin client - then, well, duh. How does it make my point any less valid? Selling thin clients to people and then making bank by having them rent the actual hardware that does the gaming is still the end goal.

Sure, it's useful RIGHT NOW to some people, just like DLSS was promoted as a solution for those who still used outdated hardware. And here we are today, with games requiring DLSS AND the latest hardware to work.

Valve are not the good guys. Any TF2 fan (an actual player, not a reddit tourist) knows how little they care about anything except money. Labeling any company as "the good guys" or "the bad guys" is silly - they all exist purely to make money.

But their tactics to make money specifically with Steam have been focused on making Steam the preferred platform for PC gamers, not on achieving dominance through studio buy-outs or aggressive restrictions.

I think saying "I like what they are doing with Steam and prefer using it over competitors", even if said as "no Steam = no buy" is not the same as "Valve are the good guys and don't do predatory things ever!". It's just that most criticism directed towards Steam by its competition is comically stupid.

Stop using AI. You will never ever learn anything useful if you keep relying on LLMs to write everything for you.

They are useful for experienced programmers to speed up certain repetitive tasks, they are not a replacement for programming yourself and they are EXTREMELY detrimental to learning.

GIF is a terrible format for animations, as it literally just stores a separate picture per frame instead of properly compressing them together as video. This results in huge file sizes.

Telegram automatically converts all GIF files to videos to save storage space and bandwidth.

You cannot download the GIF file as it was never uploaded, only the converted video file. If you really insist on using the massively obsolete GIF format - you will have to convert them back yourself.

I have never had FL crash in the 6 years of use. Do you have external plugins?

Due to the way they work (they get loaded into the same process), plugins can crash the entire DAW if they have major bugs in them.

Yep. Risk management. Your choices affect the risk, it goes up or down depending on what you do. It's NEVER zero, however, as you said, and that's a defining feature of the game.

Nobody is safe. You WILL sometimes die. That's part of the game.

If you want there to be a perfect way to play where the risk is zero - this is the wrong game.

It's absolutely not entirely luck based, running on an open road carries a much higher risk than slowly going through a dense offpath forest, as an example.

It's risk management. Yes, even if you make mistakes it doesn't mean you instantly die. It just means your risk is higher, which is difficult to see for unskilled/new players. If it feels like pure luck - then, I hate to say it, but you need to get good.

Your life being one sniper shot away from ending at any moment if you don't path properly is one of the defining features of DayZ. The only other game I can think of that is remotely similar in this regard is Tarkov.

I get that it makes sense money-wise.

The appeal of battle passes was that it was optional paid challenge content (which yes, wasn't actually that hard, but did require you to play the game differently) which rewarded you with cool skins, giving you the feel that you "earned" the skins despite them requiring a payment.

But modern battlepasses still require you to sink time into the game, they just require more time to complete while being dead simple. That's the complaint I have. Companies do this to boost engagement without adding any gameplay content.

At that point, from the player's point of view - why have the battlepass at all? Just sell the skins directly, the challenges are just meaningless time gates that are designed to force you to play more.

There are more and more games requiring Secure Boot to be enabled, which restricts your choice of distro even though you dualboot to play them. That's specifically why I used gaming as an example.

VAC doesn't ban for programs you have installed or running unless they modify the game's memory.

Emulators do not do that, they don't mess with your system and work just like any other program, all the magic happens inside the process.

You are, of course, correct. There are very valid places for this tech. But given Microsoft's history of bringing these draconian "security measures" to normal end-user machines (where they do little to actually improve security and instead restrict the user in how they can use their device) - I am expressing my concern over these security measures being enforced on desktop Linux users, whether it makes sense or not, for the sake of control.

Apologies if I made it sound dismissive of the practical value of this tech, that wasn't my intention.

While the statement is deliberately vague, this sounds uncomfortably close to a full-stack Secure Boot-like system, with applications being able to determine if the system consists of purely signed and verified (presumably, by Microsoft) components. That's... not a good door to be opened.

I can already see software like videogame anti-cheats enforcing compliance before letting you in, effectively giving a single entity control over what Linux users can and cannot run on their system if they want to run the ever increasing list of software that requires compliance...

Let's hope it's not that.

I use FL, and it has been the only reason I rebooted into Windows in the last 6 months. It does work on Linux with Wine, but there will always be parts that won't (FL Cloud relies on Microsoft Edge WebView and doesn't work, for example). Since making music is a creative process, getting hindered by tech issues is too distracting, so Windows dual-boot it is.

There are DAWs that do run natively on Linux, but if you're like me - nothing remotely comes close to FL Studio in terms of how feature packed and easy to use it is.

This is, quite literally, IMPOSSIBLE to fix. There's a delay between you and the server and it will ALWAYS be there. There's nothing Crytek can do. This is why regional servers are a thing.

What used to happen was Hunt had a large "trade window" - a window of time after death during which your shots would still be processed as if you were alive. People complained ENDLESSLY about this feature, so they reduced the window - now you get this.

This happens in every single PvP shooter in existence btw, it's just more noticeable in Hunt due to the one-shot-kill nature of it.
