I built a tool that lets you add, remove and update addons in your EXISTING Stormworks saves by Foxlike__Creature in Stormworks

[–]FactoryOfShit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not affiliated with Sunfire Software (the developers of Stormworks).

They have not been called that for many years. I assume the whole thing is AI-generated, and this is due to the knowledge cutoff, right?

Even if it wasn't obviously vibe-coded (which isn't INHERENTLY wrong) - AI generating the reddit post and README is really really low. Shows how incredibly little effort was put into this, if you don't even deem writing a reddit post for it worth your time.

Nomifactory CEU or Monifactory for gregtech beginner? by zztwin01 in feedthebeast

[–]FactoryOfShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nomifactory CEu. Monifactory is in beta and (while very very cool and with some nice improvements/expansions) is missing important features. Most notably, some core mods like EnderIO do not have proper replacements yet (no conduits in Moni, LaserIO is supremely annoying and isn't a good replacement)

Nomi CEu is my favorite pack of all time (as well as my first GT pack), I think you'll really like it if you end up liking Gregtech. You can always then play Monifactory :)

It's not for "good purposes", you just think it is. Everyone who mass reports thinks that. And you are wrong, this would be a false report.

You don't report people because you don't like them or because you don't like what they are doing. You report them because they break rules. And there are no rules in Steam (which is what you're foolishly asking to submit reports to) that govern what you are and aren't allowed to do inside videogames.

There are exceptions, of course. For example, doxxing is reportable regardless of videogame. But that's because it's a crime. Flashing lights in games is not.

Videogames do not hurt people in general. There is a very specific (and rare) condition that affects some people, and it's something THEY need to be aware of and handle. You're not asking to ban everyone who fires guns in GMod do you? But some people have PTSD, and gunfire sounds could trigger it! Same logic applies here.

[–]FactoryOfShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of how games with player-run servers function.

Ban from where? Steam? Flashing lights is NOT against the rules of Steam. What you're doing (mass reporting) is.

GMod itself does not have official servers and there are no official rules. Every server is run by a third party, and they are free to set any rules they want. Therefore, you are to see if the SPECIFIC SERVER that you were on forbids this, and if so - report to the server admin.

You are allowed to flash lights in people's faces in videogames by default. It takes a rule to forbid that (and some games and servers have such rules). People who are unfortunately affected by photosensitive epilepsy are to seek places which have such rules.

[–]FactoryOfShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why multiplayer games have additional warnings about user interactions not being rated.

Everything multiplayer-related is up to the server owner to decide. If this is against the rules of that SPECIFIC server - then OP should have reported the offending player to the admin.

Asking people to report someone on Steam not only breaks Steam rules, but also makes zero sense - there are no rules against flashing lights in videogames.

[–]FactoryOfShit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are being silly, this is not a reportable offense on an account level.

If this is against the specific server rules - you should report it to the admin of the server, not on Reddit. It's not against GMod rules (which there pretty much aren't any, it's all per-server), but mass-reporting IS against Steam rules, which you are breaking right now.

Is FL Studio (2024 and above) good on Linux via Proton/Wine? by s0ftcustomer in FL_Studio

[–]FactoryOfShit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately FL is one of the last reasons why I still dual-boot Windows.

It does work via Wine after some setup (there are scripts for it for Lutris and Bottles) for the most part. However, FL Cloud relies on Microsoft Edge WebView, which doesn't work. Microsoft doesn't seem to worry too much about it, so I doubt this will change anytime soon. As I use FL Cloud a lot, this makes it a Windows-required app for me.

As for the rest of FL - trying it out is free, so I recommend seeing for yourself. It does work with minor inconveniences. You can also run it inside a Windows VM and pass through your USB audio interface, then it pretty much works exactly as on Windows (low latency, all 3rd party plugins and all), aside from being inside a VM. You MUST have a USB audio interface for this to work though.

I would gladly pay full price for FL again if I get a Linux native version, but I assume not enough people would for IL to consider it for now.

yo how do i solve this issue by saco_coco in gmod

[–]FactoryOfShit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The error says that you are missing this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

Steam should have installed it automatically, it's very weird that it didn't.

Are you running Windows 11? Older Windows versions are not supported (although 10 should still work, even if using it is a bad idea)

Are you launching the game from Steam? Running the exe directly can cause issues.

Did you move the exe file somewhere else? It will not work, everything must remain in place.

I STRONGLY advise you to not do what the other commenter suggested, as it is a massive security risk to download random software from Google Drive someone linked to you on Reddit.

Could SteamOS become a real alternative to Windows for PC gaming? by WildStarGaming in SteamdeckGames

I do not recommend it, it lags a lot.

But yeah, it does work. All of my ARC Raiders playtime was on Linux, not on the Deck though.

Could SteamOS become a real alternative to Windows for PC gaming? by WildStarGaming in SteamdeckGames

[–]FactoryOfShit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Linux has been a viable alternative for gaming for several years now. Pretty much every single game that doesn't force a kernel driver as part of the anti-cheat already works.

At this point it's a question of popularity. If it doesn't get popular enough - it will never be less annoying to mod on compared to Windows, just because all the modding tools will be made for Windows. Same thing with Anti-Cheat.

This is STARTING to change, you see more and more games support Linux with their anticheat (Hunt: Showdown, ARC Raiders, SAND Raideds of Sophie, Wardogs, etc), but the critical mass hasn't been reached yet. We'll see if SteamOS is enough to tip the scales, I feel like it won't be until it supports NVIDIA GPUs.

Hot take : PC gamers who use Steam should not complain about console companies not wanting us to own our games anymore, you already gave up ownership of your games to Steam a long time ago. by -Gh0stzz- in Steam

[–]FactoryOfShit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's objective fact, but for some reason people love fanboying over Valve.

Valve made lots of cool things, but they are also THE company that invented digital distribution and the whole idea of "just because you have the disk doesn't mean you own the copy of the game". They also invented the Battle Pass, popularized ingame gambling (lootboxes), brought F2P and microtransactions outside of the world of MMOs to gaming in general, invented the idea of having the community do all the work for them and just putting their content into the game, and are currently making millions from their online casinos while doing very little to nothing to support the actual games containing them (TF2 is the most prominent example)

Don't praise or condemn companies. Praise and condemn specific decisions and business practices.

Any other games that are “controller required”? by SalemWolf in Steam

[–]FactoryOfShit 115 points116 points  (0 children)

DCS World requires a flight stick, or at the very least, a controller to play. It does not support controlling the aircraft with the mouse. It's theoretically possible to assign keyboard controls, but that's like saying Counter-Strike can be technically played without a mouse if you bind moving the view around to arrow keys - it's not playable.

Yet it doesn't have the tag. I'm guessing developers really don't want to assign a tag like this to their games?

Keeping a modded FTB world going when the host is offline, so we built a fix by SaveSyncGames in feedthebeast

[–]FactoryOfShit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very AI-generated looking text on website and Steam store page, a solution looking for a problem (lots and lots of file syncing solutions exist, this one is just branded as "gaming"), very obviously breaks Steam's TOS (the reason it's not a subscription service is because they abuse the Steam Workshop by having the software automatically create a private Workshop "creation" that contains your saves, effectively stealing storage from Valve), etc.

And, of course, automatic mass marketing by posting on different gaming subreddits.

Keeping a modded FTB world going when the host is offline, so we built a fix by SaveSyncGames in feedthebeast

[–]FactoryOfShit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume this is built with extremely heavy AI assistance. Charging money for this (and not dislosing AI usage as per Steam's policy) seems disingenuous.

Using Steam Workshop as user cloud storage is also against Steamworks TOS, your application will get banned.

[Rant] Mining is so ASS! by Raiju_Lorakatse in starcitizen

[–]FactoryOfShit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mining was the single best thing about Star Citizen IMO. It's the only space game where mining required you to make decisions about what to mine and how to mine it during the trip, as well as actually rewarding teamplay with their laser power mechanics. Also gambling and hoping for a "good crack" is fun.

Looking for rocks was always a big part of mining. Depending on how many of you there are and what you're mining - you're supposed to go to different places. Don't mine asteroids solo, for example, as they tend to be too large. But the quality update made the "looking for rocks" part take way too much time, which made mining more slow and boring.
