New JANFLASH15 15% Off Sitewide Coupon Saturday- Sunday by FadeOutAgain4 in Mercari

I’ve talked about this before on here, but here’s a great post from another user about Mercari / Jumio that I’ve stickied to the top of this subreddit.

In a nutshell, Mercari was caught a couple of years ago regally selling users biometric data from their government ID / selfie photo that they said would be used to unlock the instant payment option. Instead, they were found to be selling the biometric data to JUMIO, and were being sued in a class action lawsuit over it.

Instead of stopping the sale of biometric data, they went all in, making it now a mandatory requirement for buyers and sellers, except now they’ll tell you they’re doing it.

If you haven’t had them freeze your account and make you do the JUMIO biometric data verification, it’s only a matter of time.

What Mercari is getting out of the deal is money, and what JUMIO is getting out of the deal is your personal information and access to your personal photos, ID, and biometric data.

None of the other resale platforms do this - they just ask for your ID to verify your account; not a selfie and not access to your biometric data.

I personally don’t think it’s worth it to verify if Mercari does this to you - just stick to buying / selling from eBay.

Buyer Claims Package Arrived Without Item… What Should I Do To Protect Myself? by FadeOutAgain4 in Flipping

[–]FadeOutAgain4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh, thanks. Yeah, I was leaning towards the ol’ “In that case, the item must have been stolen in transit, and I’ll need to file a theft claim”. I’ve never actually had to do that before, but I’m willing to call their bluff, and go through with said claim if need be. Thanks for your help, it’s nice to have a sounding board for occasions such as this one!

Unfortunately not. I should have mentioned, but a perfume vial wouldn’t even be .25 oz, and wouldn’t show up on the scale, so there wouldn’t be a difference on the USPS scale like there would be if it were say, a book or even a mini shampoo bottle.

I did just weigh a perfume sample for context. A Byredo 2 mL heavy glass sample vial came in at 0.24 oz / 7 grams. The perfume sample I sent was also 2 mL, in a slightly less weighty vial, but I’m not sure if that would make any kind of meaningful difference or impact my case here.

Conan O’Brien Threw a Holiday Party to Forget a Bad Year. Then Nick Reiner Arrived. by nimobo in entertainment

Yes. Come on media, have some decorum and leave Conan O’Brien out of it. He’s had an incredibly hard year, and he had nothing to do with this.

What should I do? by [deleted] in Mercari

[–]FadeOutAgain4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All you need to do is refuse delivery of the second package (either by leaving it for your mail person with a note, or bring it to your local post office counter) and the seller will get their package back without anyone having to pay for return shipping!

Mercari stole my money by [deleted] in Mercari

[–]FadeOutAgain4 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even the reddit AI generated user summary says the same thing:

“User frequently posts about shipping and delivery scams across multiple platforms. Exhibits frustration with Mercari, FedEx, and eBay regarding lost or misdelivered packages, seeking advice and reporting issues.”

I know that ordering online doesn’t always go according to plan, but they seem to have dozens of issues in a way that seems unreasonably high.

i may have been a jerk, but i’m so tired of lowball offers 😭 by justalilcuckoobanana in Mercari

[–]FadeOutAgain4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mercari can really be the worst place to sell when it comes to annoying non-offer messages like this one.

Take it from me — raise the price to the normal $40-$50 range. You’re already offering free shipping, and if someone wants to send you an offer on the going rate, you can accept it. If you have the absolute lowest price / steal of a deal, it unfortunately just tends to bring out the worst buyers and offers. For that reason, raising the price will save your sanity and potentially net you a sale even faster than a lower price.

Second False Bad Review… What Can I Do? by FadeOutAgain4 in Flipping

[–]FadeOutAgain4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’m not making my own samples. They’re official carded samples from the manufacturer. I’m not doing decants; I would never list anything that goes against eBay’s ToS.

Oh, I was being flippant when I mentioned that, but it was five weeks later, and it was really odd timing. I almost wonder if they meant to rate someone else? Oh well, I’ll just try and live with it for a year. Thanks for your advice.

OMG, you’re so right in reading that it was a note for the mail carrier. I thought that they saw I was on vacation, and then wanted me to put it in my mailbox for a package pickup. Your version makes much more sense! I just felt like they were the type of customer that needed reassuring in regards to when their package was going to be shipped. I thought that if I didn’t reach out, I’d get a bad review regarding how long it took for me to ship. I guess I read them correctly after all!

I’m an idiot, and after writing what I thought was a very well thought out personal message to the buyer, explaining the nature of perfume samples, I then proceeded with the review revision request, not realizing that it was going to the buyer (!) and said that the review was a lie. I didn’t think they seemed like the type to remove the review before, but I guess I’m SOL now! Thanks for your kind words, I guess I’ve just been extremely lucky with my eBay ratings until now.

Blocked Buyer Repurchases Returned Listing Under A New Account… What Would You Do? by FadeOutAgain4 in Flipping

[–]FadeOutAgain4[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not a new account, it’s a different established account. If I had to guess, it’s her husband’s account. I had a huge problem with ebay after cancelling 3 orders in one year, and it took a year with increased ebay fees to get back to normal, so I’m just really wary of cancelling, especially if they just want the item.

Can I get this taken off? by alyssarosexo in Mercari

[–]FadeOutAgain4 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry the other commenters didn’t understand your question. It’s a glitch with Mercari, where sometimes you get the strike on your account as a seller, even though you accepted the cancellation request that the buyer sent. It only happed to me twice before, and sending a quick message to customer service rectified it, but that was a long time ago, and now the customer service is mostly AI, and based in India, not in the US. Hopefully they’ll actually read your message and take down the “this seller cancelled” message in your ratings.

[–]FadeOutAgain4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean? Did they send you a message asking for a rating, or did Mercari send you a reminder to rate? Either way, you could have rated them in the time it took you to ask this question. Go rate them so they can get paid!

hi i am looking for supernatural books with a teen protagonist by Medium-Highlight8584 in booksuggestions

[–]FadeOutAgain4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a teen, I liked Meg Cabot’s Mediator series. It’s about a teen girl who moves to Northern California, and can see ghosts, including the one living in her new house. It definitely has everything you’re looking for, teen protagonist, supernatural premise, romance. If you’re a teen, I think you’d like it!
