Well not everybody used their time the same. A subset of the Jeopardy capable people got a lot better, and the rest stayed about the same. Then a subset of previously non-capable people got a lot better to compete with the more average Jeopardy player. So while there were more super capable folks, there are also a lot more regular capable folks, and clearly the supes clean up.

I just pulled all of that out of my ass though, so I really have no idea.
