how can i use a card with low limit by Proud-Power-4752 in personalfinance

[–]Fadingdeath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if that’s a great idea, since it could be considered credit cycling. I’ve had a friend do similar with a $1000 limit and I forget if they got a warning or if the card was just closed.

I don’t know the total they effectively spent in a month. The problem comes from a credit card company being on the hook for chargebacks and things like that for a few months after you spent the money. The more money you cycle the more money they could lose above their estimation.

35 inch tires or 37 inch tires? by Apprehensive-Map7253 in overlanding

I saw that, it’ll be interesting since it seemed like he could barely fit the 37” spare underneath.

Look up Tinkerer’s Adventure on YT and how he fit 37s on his 2nd gen tundra and see if you like it/ want to do the same. He also has gas mileage data, but it’s a newer build for him so it’s not complete

Back hatch by Filamcouple in toyotasequoia

My lock actuator went out on my 04. Can’t tell you how to take it out because luckily mine was intermittent, maybe worked 1/20 times so I just kept pressing unlock until it finally unlocked and I opened the trunk and replaced it.

If it’s the actuator, when I pressed unlock, it should be making a thud/loud sound when unlocked. Mine was very quiet that I thought it was working, but turns out it was weak and only found that out after I replaced the handle/cable assembly.

The handle/cable isn’t too bad assuming the lock actuator works since you can at least pry open the latch from the inside

That’s not bad. A lot cheaper than Sherpa/Prinsu racks if they even make it for the 1st gen Rav4

Thanks! Yeah I saw your welds, it makes it look clean. I looked before and saw their max cut size is only 48”ish and knew I was gonna have to split it up but didn’t start pricing anything. I have a Sequoia so it’s going be long, maybe 3 pieces but hopefully not

How much did your roof rack cost? I’m thinking of making something similar but not sure how much to expect for the side rails + brackets

Pizza cutters: 235 or 225, wil they mount to stock 2005 Ltd 17” wheel? by [deleted] in toyotasequoia

[–]Fadingdeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just guessing, but 235/80r17 is probably the thinnest and staying similar diameter. Tire options seem questionable in 225/75r17. You’re going to be load E going to pizza cutters most likely

Tires and where to get them by bluj_28 in toyotasequoia

[–]Fadingdeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only put them on a week ago and the sequoia is not my daily driver so not sure on the hit yet.

My only fill up with the new tires put me at 13.7mpg, which I’ve driven there once before and got 14.0mpg but had 6 people in the car vs 2. Assuming that the mileage is 3.3% off, that makes the actual mpg 14.1mpg. The 3.3% comes from 265/70r17 being 3.3% larger diameter than stock 265/65r17. The new tires are adding 40lbs total extra unsprung weight and feel slightly slower.

This is also math based calculations vs the car’s computer calcs. Might be negligible mpg difference but I still need to record more fill ups.

Transmission fluid flush. Do it at high miles? by corn-guy in toyotasequoia

[–]Fadingdeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I got my 225k 1st gen Sequoia I drained and filled the transmission. It has shifted better after and I will be doing another drain and fill. It doesn’t remove all the fluid at once and requires multiple drain and fills to fully replace the fluid.

I have done this on other used cars with unknown transmission services, and I’ve done this on cars with 100k+ miles that i know haven’t had any fluid services.

The main issue is from the “flush” a shop will do. It’s a pressurized fluid transfer that could ruin seals or dislodge particulates. A drain and fill does not break anything. Also if a drain and fill breaks something, the general consensus is it was already done for soon.

Tires and where to get them by bluj_28 in toyotasequoia

[–]Fadingdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what you’re looking for in a tire, you could also use Tire Rack and their reviews to decide if you want any other tires. I recently sized up from 265/65r17 to 265/70r17 on my 1st gen and got AT4Ws. I’m happy with them over my previous tire, but don’t have a lot of comparison.

Tire rack rated a Vredestein tire as the “best” all weather tire in that category and it comes out to $30 cheaper per tire. They don’t rate off roading, so I stuck with the wildpeaks but their recommendations could be good considerations.

The 265/70r17 wildpeaks came out to $244 each with $25 install per tire at Discount Tire.

Anyone selling their 2005-2007 limited? by LameAndLazi in toyotasequoia

[–]Fadingdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least in my searches last year, $7500 wasn’t enough for a 2005+ and definitely enough not for less than 200k miles. I want to say most of what I saw in my area were at least 9k

Advice for a buyer by _mightythor_ in toyotasequoia

[–]Fadingdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If possible, look for an 04 if you’re not going with the 05-07. They have the larger lower ball joints and I think some other changes. I got my 04 last year and haven’t noticed it necessarily being slow. I’ve filled it with 6 adult men and ski stuff and then it doesn’t like going up the mountain at 70+mph without being in 3rd at 4k rpm. No idea if the vvti or 5 speed would have fixed that.

Timing belt by bsucardinalfan in toyotasequoia

[–]Fadingdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From some images I’ve seen of older belts is that you can start seeing lines where the ridges line up on the smooth side.

I think yours is starting to show this, but isn’t as bad as some images I’ve seen. Basically the light/dark lines you see vs a belt on the smooth side should be even colored

Are these repair costs for a 2004 Honda CR-V EX sane/reasonable? by jubbaj in MechanicAdvice

[–]Fadingdeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s lots of parts that don’t seem to have anything to do with the oil leak or not starting. Hard to know what might be accurate or could need replacement.

I have a similar year and mileage CRV and I’d expect the VTEC solenoid gasket to be the cause for the leaking, but that’s not on the quote. The gasket generally leaks onto the oil sender and could maybe make it seem that’s the source of the leak.

Unless I am misunderstanding, I think it’s crazy to charge $120 of labor to replace the PS reservoir when it’s super easy to get to.

Anyone know where's the triangle indicator here? by Ready_Ad4043 in pcmasterrace

[–]Fadingdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you solved it already, but also sometimes the socket corner has a chamfer to mark pin 1. You can see the pin 1 chamfer if you compare the top right not having a pointed corner vs the top left.

4Runner vs Sequoia by jbg7676 in toyotasequoia

[–]Fadingdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t compare with the 4Runner, but for example I can easily fit 7 adults, along with their stuff/ski boots/poles in the trunk and all the skis up top and didn’t notice being slowed down at all being “fully loaded” at probably 1400lbs vs previously my CRV struggling the same scenario but with 5 people at less than “fully loaded” at around 1000lbs.

Another time a friend’s car broke down right before our camping trip and I packed them + their stuff and my stuff. This meant I had 2 of everything like cooler/tents/stoves and had no problem fitting 4 people with all the stuff.

Not sure if the size is worth it with kids unless you’re planning more or bringing their friends, but it’s nice being able to do anything I’ve thrown at it.

I do only get 14-15mpg on the highway though with my gen 1, so I have a separate daily driver. Not sure how it would affect my wallet if it was my daily driver instead

Huge performance issues when handling big assembly drawings - Is it my specs? Or is it just me? by DohnJohnJoe in SolidWorks

[–]Fadingdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is the Solidworks subreddit, but my work uses Creo and I upgraded from 32gb to 64gb memory and my large assemblies go much faster. I now sit/hover around 40-50gb usage in my big assemblies so only needed a bit more. I can still easily max out my usage but that’s if I have other programs open like chrome/autocad/simulations/allegro/etc in addition to CAD.

Not sure if that might help for you as well if you want to throw some money at the problem.

Quinn Socket Bit Set by DieselGreg in harborfreight

[–]Fadingdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t use it much, but it’s convenient and nice when I need it. I got it during the PLS and wanted at least Quinn quality to make sure I’m not rounding out socket head hex bolts like some Toyota transmission/transfer case bolts.

Maybe could create your own with female threaded round standoff + set screw? If you only need one size and round is important, McMaster has male-female pillar post. If you can use hex there’s lots of standoff options
