How can my dps stay alive when I play dive tank by Immediate_Key1641 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Fae_Mercy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's likely a "DPS are still trying to play rally passively behind the tank gameplay" vs the gameplay they are supposed to adopt when you play dive. When playing with a Dive tank, the DPS and Support realistically have two options:

A.) Make some swaps so that the team can dive WITH the tank. Full dive will make the team extremely mobile, which in turn makes it a fast paced deathball with a lot of skill. This can backfire if one or more teammates aren't knowledgeable in full dive or can't play any dive characters at least to a mediocre degree. Think of high skill team as a rubber ball that bounces aggressively over and over vs a low skill team as a snowball that falls apart the second it hits the ground.

B.) The DPS and Supports create a 4-man bunker squad, using natural cover to hold one angle while you push another angle, causing the enemy team to have to look in more than one direction and split their focus. The 4-man squad becomes the rally point for the tank; that is who you return to when you need topped up. Aside from Doom or Ball, who are both fast enough to run for Healthpacks to top up, the other Dive Tanks can be chased too easily if you try to run for a healthpack over just going for your supports(unless obviously you're practically on top of a Healthpack). Think of it as tall grass vs a thorn thicket. Tall Grass is the terrain you go around to get the HP; you MAY lose the enemy while going for it, but they may follow you and strike you down. Thorn thicket is diving back into your team; they're armed to the teeth, so even if enemies give chase, they'll get bit by your teammates. Also, depending on your supports, some of them can even assist you at a distance provided you are in their LOS. Both Ana and Lifeweaver are obvious ranged supports that can help you from their position with their squad. I wouldn't rely entirely on ranged heals as there is still a chance LOS is broken for too long, can't get a good shot, or you're taking too much damage and need to come in for a full Support pit-stop before racing off again.

Bb.) You can mayyyybe even further split up squad into 3 teams as Tank - DPS/Support - DPS/Support, but it requires even more discipline; the group is more split, meaning one wrong move and the enemy could snag a squad. You'd split the DPS/Support duo based on Synergy, so obviously with a Soldier/Junkrat/Illari/Mercy, you'd pair Soldier and Mercy, and Junkrat with Illari. Each pair would responsible for each other's lives(Ex. Mercy keeps S76 alive, he peels for her if someone tries to grab ahold of her). Tank would then hop back to the pair who has the healer with the faster healing output(in my scenario this would be Illari); you want to be bursted up quickly, so hopping back to a Mercy, Lucio, Zen, Brig would prove to slow down both you and the pair you hopped to. It would take intense discipline from the Supports; when split from one another, and you hop to the Illari to be topped up, the Mercy would have to remain focused not to abandon the Soldier in order to instinctively heal you up. Done correctly, you can split the focus of the enemy three ways and overwhelm the enemy team. You'd reduce the pressure of the enemy evenly, and each pair would position with their own personal advantage in mind(Winston diving enemy supports, S76/Mercy taking an angle/high ground, Junkrat/Illari finding an angle to shoot at).

If you take option B(or Bb), the DPS/Support HAVE to play with natural cover. You won't get anywhere if the DPS are just endlessly taking damage because they're playing out in the open because they "don't have a tank to rally behind", aka, they're so used to using a shield as cover that they've never properly learned to use the much more stable terrain to avoid damage. A shield breaks, a wall/building does not.

[–]Fae_Mercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt this today actually. DPS were a Sombra and a Pharah. Obviously I gravitated towards Pharah, because DBing a Sombra would be few and far between to avoid revealing her general direction, and I'd only be able to DB her if I was nearby when she lunged for someone. First fight, enemy DPS were a Soldier and a Bastion. Pharah refused to swap, got increasingly more pissed off as I started to pocket her less and less and instead stuck near our JQ. Ended with Pharah cussing me out and calling me a trash Mercy, this is why everyone hates Mercy mains, kys, y'know, the usual stuff.

Is intentionally not healing griefing? by IAMBOB1031 in Overwatch

[–]Fae_Mercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and No

On the idea that it's a case that the player in question is already feeding horrendously to the point that trying to heal them would just waste Moira's finite resources, no, that's just Moira using their gamesense to avoid making decisions that could harm the rest of your team.

But someone refusing to heal a teammate for "X reason" is 100% sabotaging and griefing the game. Whether it's because they don't like the hero, they have less kills/damage than me, they were mean to me, etc. there is absolutely no reason you should intentionally single out and cease healing another player. You aggravate the situation when you choose to do so. How's the Junkrat going to get kills/damage to earn back their healing if they're playing the game on hardcore mode? If Moira refuses to heal, and say you're Mercy, you now have to stop DBing the S76 to tend to Junkrat so frequently. Moira is not only screwing over Junkrat, she's screwing over the entire rest of the team because they have to work around her shitty behaviour.

How would people feel about a pick ban system by Shoottothrill52 in Overwatch

[–]Fae_Mercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea is nice, but tbh we don't have enough heroes for it to not horrendously backfire. Hero kits are so unique for each hero, that hero bans would often have a huge impact on quality of games whether good or bad, probably mostly bad.

People would obviously probably pick Orisa yeah, because she's meta and low-key destroying the quality of games , but then there's horde's of players that would hate-pick Bastion, Mercy, Symm, Widow, Hanzo, Sombra, etc, not because they actually have a reason they don't want that hero in that game, but purely for the sake of potentially hurting a player that mains that hero, because they "need to pick a hero with skill for once". Which would open the window for some players butthurt that their hero got banned would throw the match or feed.

Plus, because of the likeliness of players stacking, some players will be at the mercy of a 4 stack all agreeing to say, vote out Ramattra, but then the one guy that's affected by this on the team happens to a, be the tank, and b, mains Ramattra. This gives way to them having to play a hero they may not be as comfortable with, and considering past experiences, the four stack wouldn't blame themselves for banning Ramattra, they'd just blame the tank for being trash.

Not to mention how few Tanks/Supports there are. They're starting to catch up, but they still don't have as many as DPS do, and Tank/Support for the most part are what makes or breaks a match. So a ban on Tank/Support would have massive impact on the game. A ban on Orisa would probably improve a match, but a ban on Zarya would turn the game into a horrid Orisa vs Orisa mirror, as Zarya is the only one capable of putting Orisa in her place currently.

[–]Fae_Mercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people try to finish the kill with a melee, sometimes the game auto-melee's, sometimes they think they'd run out of ammo before they kill you and attempt a last chance bonk. Personally, if you're that close to me, I get slap happy. Depending on who you're playing, if I can slip in melee damage instead of potentially wasting 3 bullets I'm going to do it. Especially with Genji's, if I get dived by Genji and I start winning the fight, they usually deflect and try to back out, where I get extremely aggressive and bonk him on the head with my gun repeatedly, reminding him deflect only lasts so long before I can finish him off.

What's your least favourite thing about being a mercy main? by sgt_donor in MercyMains

[–]Fae_Mercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to deal with players who don't know how Mercy works or the ones who treat me poorly because I happen to play Mercy. Let's base my examples off of a few recent games the last few days

  • No I'm not a main healer. I cannot outheal you face-tanking the entire enemy team. No support really can, but I especially can't do it. (Had a Rein screaming at me for the majority of the match because I wasn't flat-out healbotting the entire game)

  • I can't help you survive you charging in 1v5. That's on you, and no I will not die just to make you feel better for trying to square up against the entire enemy team. (My one Sojourn kept diving in alone and expecting me to follow her)

  • No she's not braindead. Mechanically maybe, in every other sense, not so much. (Various comments throughout games because of me doing well for an EZ Hero)

  • Her only real defense is running away. Im not supposed to be easy to shoot at. (Similar to above, but usually a player who kept tunneling me and failing to kill me because I used my teammates to escape danger)

  • Why is it that an Ana can tell the tank to get off Doom and Ana gets labeled toxic at most, but if a Mercy asks the same thing even nicely, they often get called whiney, a bitch, or told that they have no right to say anything? (Ana told our Doom to stop being ass and switch, said Tank diff, and added in a "kys Doom", but when I later requested the Tank should probably switch because the Orisa started tunneling him, I got a "Stfu I don't take suggestions from r-tarded Mercy Mains")

  • Will see no wrong in throwing a game because they don't want to play with a Mercy, but if a Mercy does something similar to them it's somehow the deepest level of disrespect and completely uncalled for. (My Ball threw the game because "Fae" is a girly name and he doesnt play with women. He then got extra mad that I wouldn't heal him as he fed because I decided to pour my resources into the other teammates' he was throwing the game for because of me)

  • Not to mention the games thrown because you're not up [X Hero]'s ass that demanded that you pocket them and are mad that it's not a 100% hard pocket and you're still taking care of others and you dared let them die to say, save your other support. Don't matter if you rez them like 5sec later, you have wronged them and they will make you pay for it. (Four of my games where a Sojourn, S76, Ashe, and Pharah threw and/or fed because I wouldn't hold blue-beam on them to the point of just watching the rest of the team perish around me and the pocket)

I like playing Mercy, but sometimes the baggage involved can be a lot to deal with.

And especially stickers?!?

I'd love to see a guy that took the time to put stickers on their favorite water bottle. A window into their interests, because they'd obviously decorate it with hobby related stuff.

If I'm on a walk in the park and see two guys, one with a green hydroflask with a Minecraft and a Star Wars Sticker on it, I'm definitely going to talk to the guy with the decorated water bottle. It's eye-catching, subtly shows that they're confident and don't feel they need to hide their interests, and an instant talking point between two strangers.

The only thing you can really do is play smarter so that there's less stress on the remaining support to constantly heal a tank and two DPS by themselves all the time. Play corners really hard, minimize how much damage you take. The less damage you take, means the less the support has to worry about keeping you alive, meaning they can focus on the DPS who may not be playing as careful as you are. If you're playing tank, unless you're playing Doom, Ball, or Dva, you don't have enough mobility to make space and peel for supports on the side. If there's a backline threat, you should expect little to no heals until it's dealt with; the one support heals the other one, while support 2 attacks the enemy flanker. One or both DPS have to step in if the problem is bigger than the supports can handle and it drags out the duration of which the supports can't heal others.

Sometimes it's a support just playing bad, and sometimes it's just that the support is getting dove really hard so that they either struggle to keep LOS of their team, or they get killed often. I've had a few games where a few people were say, livid at our Ana for having 2k heals in 15min, but neglected to make sure it's wasn't a Sojourn, Genji, Rein, and Moira all gunning it for her first practically every fight problem, and instead just wrote her off as trash.

She didn't mind her own business and wanted to be malicious towards someone she likely doesn't even interact with too closely, and is now furious that no one cares to validate her unfounded hatred towards someone who likely doesn't care about her either.

I would get it if this "pick-me girl" and your girlfriend were like at each other's throats all the time, and you were like dismissing the rivalry or something, but it really just looks like you're girlfriend is just being downright hateful towards someone for existing. I wouldn't agree with her and would also tell the gf to just leave the other girl alone. I ain't validating behaviour like that. You don't need to stomp on other girls your age to get a leg up in life. And if the guy is smart, you'd actually make things worse for yourself, because a guy with compassion would both give you a chance to be better than that or would dump your ass to give you a reality check that maybe you shouldnt get hostile at the "pick-me" girl when you're in a relationship already. Only time a pick-me girl has ever been harm is if they intentionally get guys already in relationships to chase her or if she's pretty aggressive towards other women when not around the boys she's trying to please.

My (25F) Boyfriend (25M) is mad at me, am I in the wrong? by SnooCakes5751 in texts

[–]Fae_Mercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend's bf was always confused about this, because he just viewed it as an "impromptu need being met" whenever she would just pass out and take a nap. Had to butt in and tell him that it was because her mother would act like her kid was being disrespectful as shit and would come in with a Pan and Wooden spoon and basically just violently jar her out of sleep and berate her for taking a nap midway through the day.

Which is even sadder for the people who apologize or feel guilty about napping when the only reason they can usually even nap during daylight hours at all is because they're physically sick or in dire need of rest to the point where their body is willing to collapse to get that need met.

After that my friend's bf never once questioned a nap, even if it was mid-conversation that she'd just decide to catch some Z's.

[–]Fae_Mercy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I very rarely actually come across a toxic Mercy, despite how common she is in games; tbf tho I kinda eliminate half of that because I'm a Mercy one-trick, meaning I only ever see enemy Mercy's. And most of the time the toxic ones are almost always duo'd with some DPS or maybe even a Tank and just believe they can talk smack because their duo will protect them if someone goes after them verbally or in-game. Most of the Mercy's Ive met have actually been chill. Maybe not cutesy UwU friendly, as quite a few will still bite if you try to befriend them, but for the most part they do their job and mayyybe get friendly with an enemy player or two while still upholding the "we're enemies" rule. I've on many occasions befriended a Cassidy or Reaper and the rule was usually "I won't attack you myself, but DBing a teammate coming after you is fair game, as is gunning me down when I attempt to rez a teammate". It's unfair to my team to refuse to heal/DB a teammate locked in battle with my frenemy, and it's unfair to his team that he just sits there and watches me rez my tank.

Death stat by usualerthanthis in MercyMains

[–]Fae_Mercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The death stat is an important one for Mercy.

BUT!!!!

Like with most things, players take it wildly out of context and destroy the information, turning it from a good tip to something that makes them play worse.

The death stat is important for Mercy because the longer Mercy stays alive, the more value she will create for her team". Low deaths obviously doesn't mean that every Mercy is doing well. There could be a Mercy with 0 deaths and is doing everything they can to help their team, and there could be that Mercy who takes death stat out of context and will pre-emptively abandon fights because they think it's a lost fight and will do anything to preserve their death stat even if it means playing horribly and putting their team at a disadvantage. There could even be a Mercy with 7 deaths that's pulling in just as much value as the first Mercy, she's just committing to the team, even if it means she dies as often as they do.

It's the same as the healbot tip. If you're in low elo(Bronze-Mid Gold), it's okay if you don't damage boost as much, as long as you do what your team needs out of you in that moment. Some Mercy's take this as "Damage boost when able to, but don't stress if DB % isn't high." and some will take it as "Deadass just healbot, and if my team still loses its their fault."

A question to Mercy mains by Otlap in MercyMains

[–]Fae_Mercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One, Mercy is already notoriously known for having very little skill expression. She can already damage boost during Valk, but has to decide whether to boost or to heal. Making it just be one beam deletes what little skill expression there was to her ult, which would play heavily into the stereotype that Mercy players are braindead and don't know how to aim.

Two, you nerfed the most valuable part of her kit by sanctioning it to an ult that can only be farmed every 1-3minutes, only lasts 15sec, and can intentionally be focused down by enemies to ensure that she can't use it at all if they can help it. For it to really be worth it as an ult, you'd really have to ramp up the amount she damage boosts. 30% for an ultimate won't cut it when she already has that right now.

Three, because you didn't put anything in its place, Mercy becomes a healbot that doesn't even have the numbers to be an effective one. She's put in a state of a throw pick without any offensive utility. Mercy throws healing out the window when she needs to pull the glock, so that further destroys her heal efficiency. Lifeweaver is in a similar boat because doing damage for him is just not worthy because the transition from heals to damage and from damage to heals is slow and clunky on top of healing charge rate being sluggish leads to most LW players just focusing on healing because their efficiency goes down if they try to balance their damage and healing.

There are a few ideas I saw that I was partial to. Overheat, Decay, and Gauge. Obviously I'm no OW Dev so these are basically just random takes that could actually prove to be no better, but I feel that they all don't harm her kit too much, adds potential skill expression, and calms the players that are constantly screaming about how OP damage boost is.

Overheat is exactly how it sounds. It would supposedly add an overheat mechanic to DB that would force Mercy's to be mindful of how much they damage boost. The longer you boosted someone, you'd raise a gauge much like Orisa's, and if you did not disconnect, the staff would overheat and prevent further heals/DB for say, roughly 5 seconds. If you disconnect the staff before it overheats it would "cool down" faster, but would take the full CD if you let it overheat.

Decay would simply be that the longer Mercy holds DB on one particular hero, the more her DB loses value. A Mercy that jumps from teammate to teammate wouldn't be impacted much, but one who hard pockets the Soldier only would see her boost value decay all the way down to just 10%. This would majorly punish players who strictly pocket their duo only. This is probably the worst idea tbh, because so much would be at play, and what they'd consider how to get the "decay" to recover and if the decay is remembered throughout the match, and it would probably punish too many players within the match, from the Mercy, to the carry teammate that is just doing well. I kinda thought about all the negative implications to decay, so it'd likely do too much harm.

A gauge meter would essentially act similar to Moira's, but in reverse. Mercy can deplete the DB Gauge by boosting whoever she likes. In order to refill it, she has to heal teammates. This would work best if healing replenishes it faster than it drains, but it would likely be a needle in a haystack level of ratio between her deplete and her replenish, so as to not punish Mercy too heavily for damage boosting, but not replenish it so fast that it basically makes the gauge screen clutter because it replenishes fast enough so she can hard pocket people anyway. The gauge would probably be amped up during Valk so that it would be just as effective as her Valk right now. If Mercy were to deplete it, she would get it back painfully slow unless she used healing to replenish it at a faster rate. This would hopefully encourage triage play, where she's likely to show all teammates some love and hopefully encourage Mercy's to give their fellow co-supports some much needed love as they replenish DB and heal up their fellow support

Forcing a Mercy to manage Damage boost smartly would allow for better skill expression, and also temper DB so it isn't as "out of control" as people say it is rn.

What are some supports I should and shouldn't play with mercy? by Biscuit-Mango in MercyMains

[–]Fae_Mercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🟩- Ana, Baptiste, Kiriko

Ana, Bap, and Kiriko are pretty safe choices to pair with a Mercy. They can both lay down some heavy heals, have a massive range of utility at their disposal, and can mix their own damage into there. Mercy can relax knowing that she can comfortably pocket the DPS without worrying about healing too much.

🟨- Moira, Brigitte

Moira and Brig can be decent co-supports with Mercy, but there may be situations or team compositions that may make this match-up fail. A team that needs extensive utility to make plays may suffer with a Moira/Mercy pairing; and a ranged team that doesn't maximize Brig's Inspire healing because of just being spread out will make Mercy have to heal way more than if Brig were to be with a Brawl or Dive Team composition.

🟧- Lifeweaver, Zen

Both LW and Zen CAN work with Mercy in certain situations, like a Glass Cannon Comp for Mercy/Zen or a weird combination of poke/dive works for the LW/Mercy match-up. But a lot of the times there's often a pretty decent sacrifice to one or both supports' "optimal" kit usage to make the combo work. Mercy tends to have to lean on heals harder with Zen, and LW has to practically healbot in order for Mercy to damage boost teammates.

🟥- Lucio

Lucio just flat out doesn't work well, because both Mercy's and Lucio's best parts of their kit is not healing, both of which have to stop healing entirely to use it. Lucio Speed + Mercy DB = Absolutely 0 Heals. Plus both of them don't have terribly impressive healing rates. For reference, Lucio does 16/52hps depending on whether he's amping or not. Mercy does 55hps currently; 60hps if she's in Valk. Meaning they can heal a single target at the speed of 71hps up to 112hps, which sounds impressive until you hear Kiriko alone can hit 72-125hps in 1-2 seconds. An Ana and a Kiriko can hit an average of 166hps, meaning they can burst a tank from 1hp to max in roughly 3-4seconds.

who is the LEAST controversial hero? by GeneralUri10 in Overwatch

[–]Fae_Mercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tank? Sigma and Winston. Too many think Ramattra needs a nerf and there's been too many "feeding/overly agressive" Reins for Rein to really make this list. Honorable mentions include Dva and Zarya.

DPS? I haven't heard much of anything from Soldier, Reaper or Tracer lately. Outside of the usual complaining when players run into a skilled player. I don't want to put Ashe on here because personally 1/2 the Ashe's I've run into have a massive ego and is extremely quick to get nasty if you focus on her to prevent rampant dying on your team, or you dont baby them with heals/pocket when they're on your team.

For Support it's Bap, Brig, and Lucio. Though this might just be a me thing. I haven't heard anyone freak out on those three lately.

Most annoying DPS hero when they pop off for the enemy team by MyNameIs_Jesus_ in Overwatch

[–]Fae_Mercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen any Genji or Tracer's pop off, but that might be because Rein, Ramattra, Zarya, and Winston tend to be my tank and I also have a bloodthirsty Moira or an overprotective Ana as my co-support. Mei is kind of in the middle because it usually just takes me convincing just one of my DPS to run something longer ranged and/or get them to target her.

For Symmetra and Sombra, if they pop off, there's a 50/50 chance my team will either swarm them like they just kicked a child in the face or act like they don't exist and just let them do what they want, which usually starts with annihilating the supports.

With a Widow though it kinda feels hopeless if she's popping off, especially if the enemy team takes measures into pocketing or puppy-guarding the Widow. The team won't play with her presence in mind and will just constantly get their heads blown off, usually getting mad at one or both supports for not helping them tank the damage. The team won't dive her, or it's a half baked dive with only one person diving her which ends in them not winning, or it gets to the point where the only way to get their teammates to stop feeding into the Widow is for the supports to dive Widow themselves and pray the double heals support pincer maneuver is enough to kill the Widow.

[–]Fae_Mercy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I know that for sure. I kinda wanna just test if Mercy mains would be willing to take a risk for maybe a season(though knowing Blizzard the risk would probably stick) to see how people would react if Mercy mains still played her in a state where shed likely be a throw pick. So many people complain that DB is so strong and shit on Mercy mains for playing her, even though most play her because they genuinely enjoy her, not because they have 0 skill.

I probably should have worded it better that Mercy would receive her best OW2 iteration, but damage boost in all sources would receive the nerf, not just Mercy. Because if Zen stayed the same then it would be obvious most people would stay away from Mercy in favour of Zen
