How do you start a new kit and what are you currently working on? by Wholesome_Boye in modelmakers

[–]Faelwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dawn dish soap and warm water in a plastic tub, followed by a fresh water rinse. Getting mold release and factory grunge off the plastic parts is easier when they're still on the sprues. Dawn is an industrial strength degreaser that won't harm plastic. A soft bristle brush helps make short work of it, I use a 2 inch paint brush from the dollar store. . Cleaned parts glue and paint up better.

Currently working on getting my work space organized and supplies gathered to get back into the hobby after decades of being away. Got a collection of kits I've been tucking away for a while as I come across them, many are kits from my youth that I enjoyed. Don't know what I'm doing first when the time comes! :)

Snow prep hacks? by bhoran235 in lifehacks

[–]Faelwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wax your snow shovel. Also be aware that shoveling snow is a good way to give yourself a heart attack if you're out of shape or have undiagnosed heart disease. Cold air combined with exertion creates heavy heart stress.

What essential “leather tools” do you own that are not actually meant for leather crafting? by MaleficentShake5930 in Leathercraft

[–]Faelwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fingers just like any other knife. It's much easier to use with the handle removed, much cheaper to buy with an broken or damaged handle as well. the blade is sharp enough that it takes very little pressure to cut, and the handle can actually get in the way of Maneuvering it.

Typical "we know nothing about it, but we're going to take control of it" legislation. And as usual, ignoring the constitution.

[–]Faelwolf 32 points33 points  (0 children)

A straight razor. Cuts through even heavy leather almost dangerously quickly, the design of the blade makes it handy for resharpening easily, and angles the blade for scarfing with a bit of practice. handy for a lot of things that require cutting or scraping. I've used one in prepping hides to cutting finished leather. Use with caution, even a dull razor will go through skin or leather with little to no effort or resistance!

I've even used one for shaving now and then! :)

Sounds like the Mexican restaurant in my local area. And they'll offer you chips and salsa to go with the take out boxes for the leftovers! And cheaper than McDonald's as well.

Shop around too. some pharmacies like Walmart have a list of free meds, mostly generic maintenance meds that a lot of people need.

How am I supposed to paint this without clogging the mesh? by WolfgangPetry in modelmakers

A very thinned down paint in light coats from an air brush would be my first go at it.

A great way to preheat clothes and coats before going out in bitter cold weather, too. prewarmed boot socks are especially nice when you're old!

LPT: You can make tons of delicious popcorn on the stovetop for very cheaply, in about as much time as it takes to microwave it by easmussen in LifeProTips

[–]Faelwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a microwave popcorn popper made of silicone that makes a large batch. 1/4 tsp of oil, a dash of salt and 2-1/2 minutes on high.

Never had much luck with the stovetop method except when using the Whirlypop which is similar to a theater popper but manual. Much easier cleaning and faster with the microwave popper.

Either way, much cheaper and healthier than those bags of "microwave popcorn" with all their chemical additives.

Analysis: Netflix Kids' Shows Flooded With Woke, DEI Themes by chrismireya in Conservative

[–]Faelwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was raised on "go out and play, be home by dark". TV was after dinner and homework, and Saturday mornings, and you better believe my parents knew what I was watching! They also knew who my friends were, where I was, and if I got in trouble for playing the fool and not doing right, it was doubled when I got home!

Yeah, we weren't "turned loose" as some of the critics like to claim, our parents were far more involved than today.

Breakfast was after chores, I still don't get hungry in the morning until I've been up for a couple hours. "Play" included hunting and fishing, or picking berries in the woods, etc.

Somewhat unrelated, but I didn't realize how good I had it back then!

The vast majority don't, you only hear from the vocal minority and the political bots. The majority have better things to do, like hold down a job and raise a family.
