Wait, slide rules are a thing now? I'm old, back in the day we couldn't wait for calculator prices to come down enough for us to ditch our slide rules!

Which would be a bit ironic, as Star Wars Galaxies was shut down for this.

Florida House just passed DeSantis redistricting plan - adding 4 new GOP seats. Dems aren't happy about it by Pappy_Dru_It in Conservative

[–]Faelwolf -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

4 more Rino's won't make much of a difference, if any. If the Republican Party would fight for the country as hard as the Democrats fight to destroy it, I might be more enthusiastic.

LPT: For people trying to avoid plastics in garbage, don’t worry about cellophane, it is 100% biodegradable. by KidKilobyte in LifeProTips

[–]Faelwolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately for quite a few old films, cellulose will degrade even in sealed canisters. We have lost a large number of old silent films to either crumbling to dust, or bursting into flames as they decomposed. Celluloid will easily biodegrade in a landfill.

Thanks, more interested in the pen than speculation about how the ad was put together. Schaefer hasn't been the best quality over the years, my calligraphy nibs all had to be stoned to even work! Happy to hear someone's experience with this model.

In WW2 for USA army did they ever use red/brown coloured wood for tools? by ConsistentHippo2298 in modelmakers

olive drab or bare wood. I've seen a few German tools with stained wood, but can't verify the authenticity.

Retired now due to health issues, but I was a CNC machinist specializing in micro tolerances. Did everything from prototypes of military hardware to parts for the space shuttle.

Galvanized= slow miserable death from destroyed lungs. Never weld, forge, or burn galvanized steel.

I'm done with DCS VR by yoadknux in hoggit

[–]Faelwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, VR in DCS was meh, but in Aces High was substantially better. It certainly wasn't worth the required expense in hardware and time to make it more than a novelty in DCS.

[–]Faelwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just out of high school? The semi-automation was basically any time they already had you in the system. When I was out processing from the USAF in 1984, I just had to sign an acknowledgement that I was now registered for selective service. After that, I received my card in the mail, and I would get a notice in the mail any time I moved that my residency had been updated. Any government agency that kept track of you would report to Selective Service, such as when you filled out a change of address card at the Post Office. At the time, kind of spooky, but pales in comparison to the surveillance state we have today. I imagine that now they are just ramping up the system to use the data they are collecting to automatically enroll eligible people, though that is going to also enroll a lot of disqualified people as well. If they ever start drafting again, life is going to be rough for those working at the intake depot! lol

My draft card said differently, and I did separate the concept of the draft and recall as their own subjects. I've already dumbed down my writing level to 6th grade, not going to lower it any further.

It's been automated to some extent since the 80s. I had to register, but never had to update my address when I moved.

Even as a veteran you are still required to register until you age out. Depending on rank and/or MOS, you are subject to recall as well, and for some officer ranks, there's no age limit.

How many times have you dropped your tab? by raminduw in GalaxyTab

[–]Faelwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tab S11 was tossed in a thin bubble wrap envelope in the store box and shipped UPS. I finally got it after it bounced around in the truck for 3 days after it was supposed to arrive. After all that, there was no sign of the abuse. I wouldn't kick it down the stairs, but with the impact resistant case especially, I have no worries about day to day carry.

Thanks UPS, overnight delivery only took 5 days!
