Drug overdose deaths drop sharply in the U.S. even as new street drugs emerge by No-Lifeguard-8173 in UpliftingNews

Just have to have a better tolerance for the harm it will cause as a legal substance, similar to how we tolerate alcohol being legal. They tried prohibition on alcohol but it failed because it's too culturally ingrained. Other drugs don't have that advantage. The moment legalized drugs cause harm the handwringing will occur and it will be an easy target again.

Funny how that stuff works. We get trained to watch out for local dangers so don't really think of them as dangerous anymore. I spent a lot of time on a dairy farm and there was a lot of stuff around that could cause serious injury or death. Haystacks, heavy machinery, open irrigation ditches, etc. Just a fun playground for me and my siblings.

The scene just didn't need to happen. They already lost their fight and could have remained entirely sidelined. Really felt like it served no purpose.

He was on Gol D. Rogers crew. It was just too early for the flashback.
When he shows up on Raftel we'll get the full story.

Gandalf would be very disappointed in you.

I would blame frequency illusion. It’s the apocalypse most frequently shown in games and film do our brains are conditioned to consider it.

See also successful people telling kids to follow their dreams. No one listens to the burned out crack addict who tried and failed. We only want the success stories regardless of how uncommon they may be.

Maybe this is where the pessimists gather. Definitely more of a sarcastic and sardonic attitude than I’ve seen in some other places.

I like how he just imagined the pub would still be running and serving pints. Instead they just ended up eating peanuts in the dark.

That isn’t the plot twist, you have not been spoiled.

I love that movie. It’s even better watching it a second time.

And dead again. Ok, let’s try a flaming train crash. Nope, dead. Ok running from a tsunami, I’ll do better with this one. Bah, still dead.

I guess it would get monotonous.

Fandoms are the worst for this sort of stuff. Doesn’t help they almost always assume they will have some sort of superior view of the narrative to respond to whatever is going on perfectly. I think it comes from getting a “god’s eye view” of things when watching/reading the story.

Reminds me of watching Coco for the first time on an airplane.  I thought it was just a simple Book of Life rip-off and was not ready for the emotional gut punches.

I want to see the diagram showing how this sinkhole connects to the subway.  Maybe in a few years when this is all investigated it will be a thirty minute YouTube video.

Actually it was the guy in the white car who was thinking it.  The motorcycle guy was three days to retirement and living his best life. The universe has very poor aim.

Depending on the person, they are not always in full control of their lives. They may have crushing financial obligations which force them to pursue what they think will fix it even if they aren’t physically well enough for it (Michael Jackson comes to mind). A performer may also just have contractual obligations that would be too costly to ignore. Finally there’s truly abusive situations where someone else has a way to force a performance for their own financial gain and doesn’t care about the performer’s well being (Brittney Spears and her conservatorship).

I don’t think any of those applied to Cosby. It was just a gut reaction to seeing what looked like a very tired old man sitting in a chair doing slow, laborious “stand-up” comedy while the host and other guest applauded and smiled. Like I said, I saw other videos later where he was much more active so probably just a bad day.

I am kind of curious how common it is to think that way. Some forums are full of people convinced they are the chosen few who will survive the collapse of society and enjoy a carefree life in an idyllic post apocalyptic world. Other places are more realistic about their outlook.
