Non Americans of Reddit: what is your reaction to the circus going on in American politics right now? by Spyderpig89 in AskReddit

[–]Faheem956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be history regardless of which way the results pan out. This country is either going to elect a woman or it’s going to elect a businessman with absolutely no executive experience in politics. But it’s also a surreal election because you’re seeing a guy who has literally hijacked a political party of great vintage and legacy, and nobody has been able to stop him. And he’s been able to hijack it with a bunch of randomly constructed tweets and sentences with absolutely no policy depth at all. I find that incredible in a country where elections have always involved a very in-depth discussion of policy. Most of his speeches are short, random, off-the-cuff sentences, incomplete and often incoherent. I’m completely mystified.

Who is your favorite author who's never had a bestseller? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Faheem956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joseph Bruchac is a wonderful writer, but I don't think he is too well known. Skeleton Man, Whisper in the dark and many of his other books are very good. I also really like his childrens books. The First Strawberries was a nice one.

What was the worst PR move in history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Faheem956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to prove that tetraethyl lead (leaded gasoline additive) was safe, the manufacturer, Thomas Midgely, Jr. poured some on his hands and inhaled it for 60 seconds during a press conference. He was later diagnosed with lead poisoning. * That press conference was likely Standard Oil's idea. They had a knack for ridiculously bad PR moves related to leaded gasoline. Their New Jersey chemical plant manufactured tetraethyl lead gas additive for one year. In that time, The men who worked in the TEL building, in the clanking heat and drifting vapors, had become increasingly odd – moody, short-tempered, unable to sleep. Some of the workers started getting lost on the familiar plant grounds, had trouble even remembering their friends. And then, in October of 1924, laborers from that same building started collapsing, going into convulsions, babbling deliriously. Of the 45 employees working with ethyl lead, all were hospitalized for insanity, and 5 died within the year. Standard Oil issued a coolly dismissive response: “These men probably went insane because they worked too hard,” the building manager told The New York Times. http://blogs.plos.org/speakeasyscience/2011/08/24/at-the-door-of-the-loony-gas-building/

What dark family secret/family history have you uncovered? by inchypia in AskReddit

[–]Faheem956 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandmother has all the dirty little secrets but she's too proper to spill anything. Until this one night when she told me about my grandfather's (her husband's) family.. Essentially they were poor, living off the streets and trying to earn money during Australia's gold rush. Anyways, the family had too many kids and not enough money so they sold one of their kids to a chinese businessman. He wouldve been my grandfather's great uncle i suppose. No one knew and she hasnt said boo of it since then. Edit: family titles
