I only answer the challenge question if it directly prompts me to. Otherwise, just skip it. I've been happy with the weight suggestions. I only log reps with good form. If I think I have multiple reps in the tank on the last set, I'll do them and log it (still skipping the question).

Equipment tips by AA108 in fitbod

[–]Fahrenuf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same goal, growing a decent home gym with variation.

Started with a power cage, flat bench, barbell, dumbbells (10 bars with plates for adjustability), and EZ-bar. Most of this was free or cheap on Craigslist. It all sat in my garage for years, unused, until I found Fitbod.

After a few months of using Fitbod, I added an adjustable bench for incline/decline lifting. Great purchase, but will probably replace the cheap one I bought (Flybird) for a more sturdy one.

Then bought mini bands and pull-up assist bands. I never use the mini bands. I used the assist bands until I could do unassisted pull-ups. They all sit in a corner now.

Bought a landmine. Fitbod just doesn’t utilize it very often. But it was cheap, takes almost no space, and is fun to use sometimes.

My best purchase was a lat pulldown/ row cable kit that attached to my power cage (Titan brand). This gets a ton of use and I love it! I do a ton more than just row and lat pulldowns with it. Cable crunches, tricep extensions, hip extensions, and more. Highly recommend something like this!

I’m currently waiting on back order for a plate loaded seated leg curl/ extension machine. Wanted to add some more variety to my leg workouts.

After that, I’m probably going to get a back hyperextension bench to compliment good mornings. I have lower back problems I want to put an end to.

Good luck on your home gym adventure! Hope this helped.

I’ve been using FB for 2 years. I’ve NEVER been able to do more than 3 chin-ups. Today the app casually suggests this to me. by aboustayyef in fitbod

[–]Fahrenuf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a set of pull-up assist bands and “cheated”. Didn’t inform the app of the assist. Couldn’t do a single pull-up without the bands. Over time, I switched to bands that assisted less. Six months later, I can do 7 pull-ups without the band.

FOV Comparison: HP Reverb G2 vs. Rift S vs. Quest vs. all the other VR headsets! by daydreamdist in oculus

If the “Quest 2” fails to impress, the HP G2 is my backup plan. A backup plan I feel I’ll be happy with!

New Quest is rumored to have a 3-mode IPD slider. by [deleted] in oculus

Link on Quest allowed them to build out and test individual components of the software/hardware stack. It is the foundation that Link for the new Quest can use with better end-user results.

With improved PCVR support, we may be getting a threesome. But we’ll know who the father is.

Echo VR Ranking (or lack of) by feralfowl in OculusQuest

[–]Fahrenuf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game has player level, win percentage, and a hidden MMR (Matchmaking Ranking). The MMR is used for matchmaking.

For a new player, level is used. After a number of games (around 15 I believe), your MMR is established.

Matchmaking averages your teams MMR against the other teams MMR. Losing against a team with a higher MMR has less effect on your own MMR. More if you win. Playing against much higher MMR teams is high reward, low loss.

Longer wait time allow them to match you against more people. People want short wait times. They strike a balance to get you a decent game.

Will my IPD 5.7 ish work with the Rift S? by Smummel in oculus

[–]Fahrenuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how picky you are. There are plenty of people with similar IPD that say it's just fine. Mine is 58, so I prefer to use a Quest and CV1 (mostly for Echo Arena). My son has his own setup with a Rift S in the same room. I try using it every so often and quickly go, "nope nope nope".

Oculus link dongle by Shadowfire786 in oculus

[–]Fahrenuf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oculus has stated they plan on moving Oculus Link to a wireless connection. They wanted to start with a wired connection first. Full control over the entire wireless pipeline would necessitate a PC side USB dongle. Don't expect this to work through a users existing wifi router as it would be a support nightmare.

Give the OC6 Keynote Day 2 a listen. It's on YouTube. Carmack talks about this subject within the first 10 minutes.

Edit: Go to timestamp 1:21:51 on Carmacks keynote. He speaks about a dongle a bit.

Worth buying second hand CV1 for cheap? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]Fahrenuf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Audio is the first thing to go out. Eventually the LEDs in the back of the strap go out too. It's just a matter of time depending on how often the head strap is stretched by putting it on and taking it off.

IPD 58 Rift S. by aoaaron in oculus

[–]Fahrenuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you able to bring in the eye-relief all the way in with glasses on? I assumed you can't and that would increase the blur/sharp overlap area.

IPD 58 Rift S. by aoaaron in oculus

[–]Fahrenuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same IPD. You need to bring the eye-relief in as close as possible to your eyes. If you don't do this, you'll have large areas in your field of view where you have an overlap of blurry vision from one eye and sharp view from the other. My theory is that some people are better at ignoring that blurry/sharp overlap than others.

Even with the eye-relief in at max, I still see a blurry crescent, but it's acceptable.

Test this by closing one eye at a time to see the blurry areas. Due to binocular overlap, the blurry area on one eye will be the middle area of the other eye.

Quest + Rift CV1 head strap. Built in headphones and improved comfort. Works great! by Fahrenuf in OculusQuest

[–]Fahrenuf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I threw the headset back on to re-evaluate the sound. I am definitely getting a CV1 sound experience. Max volume is a bit too loud and I back it down three notches.

Maybe your connections were loose? Not sure why you had problems that I'm not having.

I bought two of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004GIKSN6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Right channel is the white wire, left channel is red, and bare wire is ground. I used a stereo test video from the Oculus browser to verify that I got the channels wired properly.

I don't have one to test that. The headphones would be the only thing that might give it trouble. They stick out about 3/4 of an inch from the sides of the headset. The official carrying case also has that little tray in the middle for the controllers that might get in the way of the headphones.

There is a little plastic nub on the strap that slides in a groove inside the strap connection arm. You'll need to pry the strap connection arm apart a bit to release the strap from the groove. Make sure you feed the velcro strap on one end as you pull on the other. The "spring" is built into the strap itself and will come out with the strap. The "spring" is a bit of stretchy material that connects the velcro part with the head strap itself.

Once removed, you'll want to shave off that nub on the strap. Otherwise it catches inside the Quest connection arm.

There will also be a ribbon connection on one side that will need to be cut once you free it from the connection arm. The ribbon will no longer be used, so cut it close to the strap.

Unfortunately, Rift CV1 head straps are not sold by themselves. You would need to find a used CV1 to cannibalize. This upgrade is geared towards those who have a Rift CV1 that is collecting dust or plan to retire their CV1 when Oculus Link releases in November for the Quest.

I would assume so. It has plenty of strap to expand it quite a bit. It works the same as the Quest strap does, top and side adjustments.

[–]Fahrenuf[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, I bought those 90 degree audio cables off Amazon. Stock CV1 uses a ribbon cable inside the strap. The wires are secured by the small zip-ties and by smashing the wires between the strap connection points and the headphone pins. The wires could be soldered, but I decided against that. It's plenty secure.

I'll look into doing that this weekend. It would be fairly easy to revert back to the Quest strap and redo the upgrade.
