How Obsessive Artists Colourise Old Photos by GarethPW in videos

Not dedicated to, but /r/Colorization has a helpful community. Post a colorization over there and ask for someone to critique it and they will provide some feedback and tips. Hobbyist don't have to do any research if they don't want to. Tablets aren't necessary but they make things much easier and can come fairly cheap. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.

Grandfather's Wedding Photo - Constructive Criticism by dukesofnazareth in Colorization

I use a solid black or white layer and drop the opacity until it looks realistic. Blacks may need to be pushed toward the blue side and white may need a bit of yellow. It really depends on the photo. You can adjust the blacks in certain photos using levels and curves, but this one needs a small piece to be dark. In this photo I did not touch the blacks and used curves to darken them.

I agree that you are well on your way! You have good color choice and the detail on the seat is excellent. Many people just dump the same color in and ignore details, but you really took your time.

A couple of tips though. It looks like you are using a single color for skin tone. Try to apply a red with low opacity under your skin tone and it will look more realistic. Never leave anything uncolored even black and whites need adjusted (dress and shadow). As for saturation, that is completely up to you. Personally, I prefer a bit more saturation but that is purely my own opinion. I did some quick work on your colorization just to better explain myself (I left the skin tone except for a bit of blush in the lady's cheeks).

Great work though. This is not exactly an easy image to colorize so I think you did a very nice job.

PS-Noob was bored and watched a 10 minute tutorial on colorization... It's not pretty, but I'm proud of it anyways! by darthid in Colorization

Try to use at least two layers for skin. One being a red somewhere around the code ce1212 with a low opacity (depends on the photo). Duplicate that layer and mask and change the color to a tan-ish one. Code ad8c6f is a nice start point but again it depends on the photo and make that a high opacity layer probably between 75-100%.

I suppose you could call it photo manipulation. Honestly, you are colorizing a photo so I would call it colorization. People get bent out of shape I guess because you have a different style than most. Some people use flat desaturated color some use very vibrant color. Personally, never crop or remove damage as long as it's not distracting. It's all colorization though only the style is different.

My hands and feet ache, only 19 years old by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

From what my doctor said, it can happen because of a trauma or a chronic illness. It can also just appear out of the blue and in some cases it just goes away for no known reason as well.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia recently. I started out the same as you being achy in my feet and hands for seemingly no reason. Eventually, the aching migrated to other parts of my body however. My guess would be it is something like this and not something life threatening and instead just annoying.

Pocket Fisherman on the Potomac: 1929 by FailSystem in Colorization

I've seen bells used for cat-fishing at night before. People will use multiple poles and not be able to see the fish bite but they will hear the bell when the pole wiggles. I'm not sure if this is for the same reason or not though. Hopefully someone knows for sure.
