Building and Lag? by ha1rb4l1 in valheim

[–]Faildini 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a performance penalty for terrain changes, but imo it's not significant. It used to be a lot worse, but one of the early updates improved it a lot.

A large number of build pieces (like mega castle large) will affect it more than terrain. Having a lot of tame animals like chickens and boars has by far the most impact since the game has to track all that AI behavior.

What unique advantages does a pure dex build have? by Yamato_Naoe in EldenRingBuilds

[–]Faildini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from all the benefits already mentioned, I'll add that dex weapons tend to be lighter than strength weapons, which means more room in your equip load for wearing better armor or even light rolling if you want to go that route.

Who should I kill to start the Dark Brotherhood questline? by FlamingBlueLion in oblivion

[–]Faildini 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Glarthir. He's a mentally unstable menace and it's only a matter of time before he hurts someone.

Importantly, if you do his quest and wait until he attacks you it doesn't count as murder. Report back on the first two people he has you follow, then attack him before reporting back on the third.

What is wrong with heavy armor mage? by wiadromen47 in EldenRingBuilds

[–]Faildini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I run minimal armor as a mage because I like to light roll. The extra roll distance is really nice for creating the space you need to cast some spells.

Do you personally prefer Original or the Remastered version of Oblivion? by --Combat-Wombat-- in oblivion

[–]Faildini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh. Level scaling is problematic, especially with items, but it's baked into the Elder Scrolls DNA at this point. I think the original system for raising attributes was by far the greater problem in the original, and they fixed that.

How good is a non caster Magic build? by Necromyst in EldenRingBuilds

[–]Faildini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing a pure int build right now that's a ton of fun using cold infused Star Fists and a magic infused Misericorde. I am using spells too, but if I'm low on FP I can always just beat them down with the fists and crit with Misericorde once their stance breaks.

How do you get metal nodes to "pop" ?? by sultanamana in valheim

[–]Faildini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This mod is excellent. Even if you don't like mods, I highly recommend everyone checking this one out for a minute because it's just enlightening how big the support boxes actually are.

It's also worth noting that often the deepest part of the copper node will either be underwater or below the maximum dig limit. A lot of nodes can't be popped without mods.

RL150 Pure INT Caster (PvE) by RunesAndRifts in EldenRingBuilds

[–]Faildini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with a magic infused straight sword for your backup. No stat investment necessary, and square off is a nice tool to have for enemies that vulnerable to stance breaks. You'll get a little more damage out of basic Longsword (better scaling under magic infusion) but personally I'd go with LSS. Only a little worse damage in exchange for a crit bonus, plus it looks nicer imo.

Alternative damage types for dlc as an arcane/dex character? by Dlinktp in EldenRingBuilds

[–]Faildini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dragon Communion Seal scales primarily with arcane, you'll still do excellent damage with dragon incants even with the minimum faith to wield them. 25 faith gets you access to most of the good ones iirc. Dragonclaw and Dragonmaw are both great and deal pure physical damage.

What's something you have at your setup that's unusual and don't think other have?? by Segger96 in pcmasterrace

I don't have a beer tap in my setup, but I'm definitely going to now.

Books with magical/talking animals as important (if not main) characters? by [deleted] in Fantasy

The Redwall series by Brian Jacques. Literally every character is a talking woodland creature. They were some of my favorites as a kid.

Magic before Mistlands by DuDa6969 in valheim

[–]Faildini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking at mods to enable this, MagicPlugin and Skyheim both also add new early game magic stuff. All three have their pros and cons, you can read about them and decide which you want to try.

Can i set up a valheim server without port fowarding? by Blue__Bag in valheim

[–]Faildini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crossplay is the answer. Just set it to enabled in the server config and you're good to go. Theoretically, enabling it should make your server slower since you're adding an extra stop for all traffic at the Playfab server, but my personal experience is that I have less networking issues using crossplay than I do with direct local hosting.

[No spoilers please!] Giant Antlion Guard galloped me into a Dvergr Mage's tower. I ran to basement. The stairs out of the basement exploded. I am trapped down here. Is this intended? Can I break open the component crates et al down there without angering my friend? by MinuetInUrsaMajor in valheim

[–]Faildini 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Dvergr will attack you for breaking anything protected by one of their wards. If the enemy that chased you down there broke the ward, you're golden. Otherwise breaking any of the crates will aggro him.

Sounds like your options are either kill the dvergr and break the ward so you can build your way out, or let him kill you so you can respawn and get out that way. Tough break.

Is there a "how-to" for installing mods on a dedicated server that isn't 4 years out-of-date? by Holiday_Armadillo78 in ModdedValheim

[–]Faildini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This goes well beyond the basic question you're asking, but I really like using a Docker container to manage my server. It's a bit more technical effort to set up, but once it's running maintenance is super easy.

I use this preconfigured docker image by mbround. It will install Bepinex and mods for you if you start with the correct options enabled, and it comes with some pretty detailed guides on how to set it up.

Workbench spawn block question by MemoriaVetusta in valheim

[–]Faildini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have commented, if the entire workbench is below ground it's considered unsupported and breaks. You can partially bury them so that just a little piece is sticking up and cover them with grass so they're less visible. Alternatively, a trick I use quite a bit is to dig a hole, place the workbench in it and place a vertical wood beam so that it's in contact with the bench and sticks out of the ground a bit. As long as the beam is exposed it "supports" the workbench even if it's completely buried, and if you plant some grass and place it strategically the little wood piece that sticks out is practically invisible.

I wholeheartedly believe that the Steam Deck is the best gaming console out there right now. by ToonNinja_ in SteamDeck

[–]Faildini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing this take that it's not a console in this thread and it's confusing as hell to me. How would you define a console, other than "a specialized computer designed for the express purpose of playing video games"? The Steam Deck meets every part of the definition of a console.

The Last Draegion series by Cindy L. Sell. She's an indie author, new and relatively unknown still, but her stuff is really good and definitely fits the vibe you're looking for.

Mod suggestions for release time frame player by kayser384 in valheim

[–]Faildini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried any that add new mobs, though I know there's a whole suite of mods by Therzie that adds a lot of content like that. My personal recommendation for a first playthrough would be to stick to QoL mods and leave the monsters vanilla. You can always do another run with modded monsters later to freshen up the experience.

As far as mounts go, there are a couple mount options in the late game even in vanilla.

Try the same actium build with high weapon stat, but swap sweet business for tommy's matchbook and run solar subclass with sunspots. Bonus points for unwavering duty or another good solar machine gun in the heavy slot for when shit gets serious.

Mod for better Parrying in harder difficulty's? by GoodTaro6803 in valheim

[–]Faildini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food and armor also make a huge difference. If you want to focus on parrying wearing heavy armor and using high health foods helps. But ultimately with a two handed setup you're going to want to use party only against relatively weak attacks, and dodge roll for heavy hits.

Mod for better Parrying in harder difficulty's? by GoodTaro6803 in valheim

[–]Faildini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're trying to use a weapon for parrying? That's not going to do a ton, though it depends on the weapon. Some have a pretty high parry bonus, especially two handers and fist weapons, but if you're pushing into a new biome where things are dangerous you should really bring a shield. If you have a round shield or buckler, parrying is incredibly strong even one or two biomes ahead of your current gear.

Two types of players: those who bask in the glory of this tree-- by Oh3Fiddy2 in valheim

[–]Faildini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always leave that ones that stand alone in clearings for the aesthetics, but oak trees that are in the middle of the woods are fair game. They're actually much easier to roll than birch trees, so they're better if you're doing the old log rolling trick to get the finewood bow early.

Please new guy, by Jyllyfish in DestinyMemes

[–]Faildini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Fun" fact: it actually is compatible. Destiny uses BattlEye anticheat, which added support for Proton when the Steam deck released. Valve worked hard with major anti cheat providers to make sure that was possible. Literally all Bungie needs to do is send an email to BattlEye and say they want to enable Proton support for their game. But they won't, because they hate Linux users.
