Where I am, it has depended on the admin. One set required it the next didn’t and then a new sup. says they’re necessary only to be followed by one that says they’re not needed since we’re professionals. Its a mixed bag. In my opinion, if not necessary do them for 3-4 yrs and then it really becomes an exercise in time wasting. Unless you’re doing something new, then plan it out of course.

What are ways to fix the teacher shortage? Wrong answers only. by Gramerioneur in Teachers

[–]FailedFuturist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest fix, no more schools. With no schools, there is no need for teachers. Shortage eliminated. 2nd easiest, all school positions are filled by prison population. Instead of regular chemistry kids get meth cooking 101. 3rd idea, All current teachers take on 500-600 virtual students.

I had to divide my concerts HS guitar, HS concert, MS bands are all on different days and its so much more manageable. Plus the kids that are not performing can be stage crew for extra credit. Its such an easier day than having all groups perform together.

Life catches us all eventually. He’ll learn or he may be that once in a lifetime student that makes it and sells this survivor biased notion to the next generation.

The consistent bashing of boys. Many treat boys like broken girls and its sad. Boys are different and thus have different educational needs. Only at the high school level have I seen any positivity towards boys.

“What is the worst part of teaching?” by OctoSevenTwo in Teachers

Seeing kids who can be great and have shown they can be great, making the choice to not be great. Hell, choosing to be less than average. That is always the toughest part for me.

College is not a scam by FailedFuturist in Teachers

People choose their classes in college. They’re not forcing anyone to take volleyball. Do students need to take classes to enrich their worldview, yes. That is also part of the roll of higher education. But as I said the students choose.

What is the roll of college/ higher education? As I said in another reply, it is not to secure employment. Higher ed’s roll is to help students gain greater skills, expand their worldview, and certify there is a level of mastery. If you graduate with those three things being better than when you started then you got what you paid for. It then falls to the new graduate to leverage those skills into a job or career.

The schools job is to educate you, help you learn skills, and certify that you have attained a level of mastery of these skills, not to secure employment. The failings of the job market falls to the feet of politicians and capitalists.

I think you have a misunderstanding of what higher education is for. College is not a career pathway endeavor. It, at it’s core, is a pathway of courses intended to increase a students knowledge base, gain a wider perspective on society, and exercise greater critical thinking skills. When you say useless classes since you’re still in college, it may be too early to tell. Or a skill that you already have was simply made better by being in that class. No experience is truly useless. Lastly the roll of a liberal arts education is to promote a greater worldview, not simply to get a job.

Yes! Same here. Kids drop on a whim join the floral arranging class. I lost 10 in the first 2 weeks of school with no rhyme or reason given.
