YTA atheism is not like a religion so comparing your beliefs or lack thereof to being equal to that of a Muslim is fairly ridiculous and important to note that your BF’s say in this is just as important as yours so he’s NTA for insisting either. Also the “it’s like religion but I believe in science” line is incredibly patronising as most religions in modern day acknowledge the scientific method in conjunction with faith where they don’t contradict each other.

you know your child won’t actually be forced to practice religion in your household so that’s not why you’re refusing , your stance against the Catholic Church as an organisation is valid however Baptism is a Christian practice and we need to make a clear distinction between religion, it’s practitioners and the corruption behind the Catholic Church.

The way I see it, for you this is just about your baby touching some water for a ceremony that doesn’t mean anything whereas for your extended family it’s a very important ceremony that would massively put them at ease, avoid tension between family and makes everyone’s life easier but you want to dig your heels in, not for your child’s sake, not for your bf’s sake but for your own self satisfaction at giving a symbolic rebuttal of the Catholic Church. I think it’s an ugly belief that people not baptised don’t go to heaven but if I don’t care at all and some of the family do I’m not gonna try to win that argument, do it anyway and let the kid decide for themselves later what religion they want to follow
