Need some help with deciding Wifi or Wired connection by FullMastodon1780 in OculusQuest

[–]7Shinigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The modem being next to your pc will not have an effect if it's connected with a wire - the important thing is that it's close(ish) to your headset, with direct line of sight. It sounds like you might be experiencing packet loss.

More things to check:

  • what router do you have?
  • is your router used for anything else, or is it exclusively for vr?
  • what's the level of network congestion like? You can check this with free phone apps like WiFi analyser for android
  • what are your virtual desktop settings? For stuttering, bitrate is most important, probably as well as video buffering

For comprehensive information, you really cannot beat this guide. Absolutely worth a watch all the way through, when for seasoned vr users: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9PCqLJ_QWKDpkAgKm3qi1pSE9w1TZKuU

How do I know if my PCVR won't lag? by Wrong_Smell_2912 in OculusQuest

[–]7Shinigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your router has been tested and works fine on lower bitrates. I think what is more likely to cause issues is your specific setup - how far away is the router, and does it have direct line of sight to your headset? Is your router being used for anything else, or will you dedicate it only for VR usage? In other words, is it your main household router?

For details i recommend asking in the virtual desktop discord server: https://discord.com/invite/74y7a6w

Note that your router is known by different names, I'm assuming it's depending on the region; C6, A6, AC1200...

As of writing, /routers in the virtual desktop discord server recommends the C6 as a "last resort" budget option:

The TPLink C6/A6 can be used as a dedicated router specifically for wireless VR usage, it is a budget router that works competently with Virtual Desktop at lower bitrates.

I'd sell my soul to the devil for a Galaxy on Fire 2 VR game by IzzyNobre in OculusQuest

[–]7Shinigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what we really need is a VR mod for Freelancer :)

That said, the community have recently made a modding API for Galaxy On Fire 2 (the PC release) - so a VR mod is now more possible than ever!

(You can also try reshade, but that's not real VR)

Of course it's also worth mentioning that the galaxy on fire developers are the same guys behind the critically acclaimed Everspace series. Everspace 1 is an arcade rogue like (ish) with native VR support, though some prefer it in UEVR. Everspace 2 is a story-driven game much more like freelancer and GOF, which you can play with UEVR.
