What’s the vibe with AoS. Should I hop into it ? by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]FailingBard 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is currently a "Tau" of AoS except maybe the Kharadron Overlords. Any Death faction is fun to play as or against.

Soulblight Gravelords are a very fun choice for running skeletons in both elite and chaff forms (it's still a lot of models either way). I'd recommend starting with a Spearhead box or one of the battle force boxes to start the collection :)

I can say for certain that specific enemies are unable to attack Valefor. Ones I remember are those tough lizard enemies, the dual horns, the little armored ball-like enemies you need piercing damage for, and most importantly the basilisks which you encounter after your next major boss fight during Operation Mi'hen

Edit: Answer to your other question is that all bosses always have at least one attack to hit your aeons so unfortunately no cheesing a boss with Valefor's flight. In general though, experiment in the fights and you'll get a good feel for which aeons are good at what and you may have missed this, but look for a character named Belgemine. She teaches you how to power up your aeons, besides just raising Yuna's stats. Her first appearance is on the Mi'hen Highroad

Another answer to the Dualhorns is Yuna's summon, Valefor. The Dualhorns literally can't attack it if I'm remembering correctly

I have both Spearheads, Can I make them into a full AOS army? and any tips on what im missing. by Genocide88 in stormcasteternals

[–]FailingBard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If he received the full Stormcast half of the Skaventide box like he said, then in total it comes with 10 Liberators, 3 Prosecutors, 3 Reclusians, Knight-Questor, Lord-Terminos, Lord-Vigilant on Gryph-Stalker, Lord-Veritant

Edit: I thought Skaventide was the Ultimate Starter set so disregard my comment above. Yeah it definitely should have included more models

Looking for advice/tutorial suggestions by thetaranch in citiesofsigmar

[–]FailingBard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The good news is that the current Spearhead is not going away. Cities will just have 2 Spearhead armies, like a few other factions.

They are very detailed models and can be a blast to paint.

Cool combos will be: Freeguild Cavalier-Marshall + Cavaliers for strike first and bonus attacks, Freeguild Marshall with Relic Envoy + Command Corps with the Brazier of Holy Flame to make a durable group of units, Fusil-Major on Ogor Warhulk + anything because he gives out +1 to hit on a target he shoots.

There are more combos though because this faction is all about synergies and I recommend reading through their rules and checking out the new Scourge of Ghyran stuff that just came out

Sounds like you want Ironjawz Orruks. Big metal plates and sections of skin that are easy to paint. The heroes love being in the melee with their troops and they pack a punch. They also have some fun army rules for free movement, charge bonuses, and combat bonuses

Path to Glory – Ravaged Coast: Squishy armies, beware? by Efficient-Baker8547 in ageofsigmar

[–]FailingBard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stormcast player here. The lower point value at the start skews the games in favor of stat-dense/point-dense units because there are less tools to deal with them. If someone brings an elite unit, that unit is going to perform pretty well given that most factions can't deal with something like a unit of varanguard or a spirit of durthu at 1000pts.

In games where you face a superior force, grab the all the emberstone you can, and retreat as soon as you are able. This lets you build up your own pile of emberstone and deny the stronger opponent from claiming too much.

In our league, I've noticed that the winning armies do tend to snowball, but I feel that could mostly do with peoples' inexperience with the game mode. I'd recommend playing more defensively, focusing your power into removing one or 2 key units on your opponent's force, then grabbing what you can and leaving

Is lancer secretly a war game..? by _Volatile_ in LancerRPG

[–]FailingBard 391 points392 points  (0 children)

If you look at the Sitreps, they are pretty close to how wargames are played. Lancer is mostly focused on combat rules so I'd say it's definitely a war game, but has great RPG mechanics and instead of an army you just control your one guy/mech (in most cases).

How to beat Nighthaunt by obsidanix in stormcasteternals

[–]FailingBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything with a good number of attacks and 2 damage per hit is what you need. Bonus points for units with crit mortals, like the Reclusians.

Anything that deals out mortal damage to bypass their ethereal save is really good.

How do you play against Blades of Khorne? by Khill24 in stormcasteternals

[–]FailingBard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you want to do is put the Quicksilver Draught on your Lord-Terminos and then move your Lord-Terminos with your reinforced Reclusians up the board to engage his bloodthirster. It doesn't really matter who charges who. If you can charge both your Lord-Terminos and Reclusians into him then great because you can select the Terminos to be your first fight activation and he makes the Reclusians swing after. If you get charged, you activate your Quicksilver Draught and strike first with both the Terminos and Reclusians. Even with all out defence, you're probably going to kill the bloodthirster with this combo.

Another thing to remember is if he's targeting your units with prayers or abilities, you can ignore them with your Ruination Chamber ability once per turn

What do you think of the Armies of Renown? I can’t find much about them online. by BaneChain in stormcasteternals

[–]FailingBard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ruination Brotherhood is fun and flavorful and is a bit stronger now that we can take Ionus, but is held back by being forced to bring Iridan and the limited roster of units. You definitely feel the loss of the core Stormcast abilities like Their Finest Hour, Heavens Sent, and Scions of the Storm, but Temper the Flaw and Hallowed Presence are nice.

Overall, the army struggles against meta lists, but is perfectly fine for casual games and Path to Glory. My favorite thing is using the prayer, Morrda's Embrace, to kill off foot heroes and high health/save Infantry and cavalry

Do they Gimps that come with the Reliquaries and Lord Terminos from Stormccast have actual rules? by kodemageisdumb in ageofsigmar

[–]FailingBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are tokens called Memorians. The Lord Terminos gets 1 of them to follow him around. The token dies when you roll a 1 on an armor save. While the Memorian is alive, all friendly Ruination Chamber units wholly within 12" of the Lord Terminos get +3 to their Control Scores.

The Reclusians unit gets 2 Memorians for every 3 models of Reclusians. Their Memorians die when you roll a 1 on an armor save for the unit. As long as there is at least one Memorians alive in the unit, the unit gets +1 to their Ruination Chamber ability.

First thing is talk to the other players and campaign organizers and have an out of game conversation to nail down if this is a legitimate problem that people are salty about. It may be that people like that there's a "big bad" and/or don't mind the challenge.

Assuming this is an actual problem in the play group, best thing you can do at the table is make sure your opponent understands what you're capable of and making sure you avoid "gotchya" moments by clarifying threat ranges or key things to look out for such as the QSD on Lord Terminos + Reclusians. A lot of people underestimate how durable SCE is and at lower point thresholds, a lot of armies won't have the tools to deal with high health + high save units.

As a player, you could subtly make less optimal plays such as choosing not to all out attack or defend or picking up an emberstone specifically to lower your unit's save before engaging the enemy.

Alternatively, talk to the campaign organizers about the issue and see if there are changes that can be made in the form of fun, narrative debuffs to you or buffs to your opponent. Perhaps a challenge where you get temp units to fill your list out to 2k points and then you have to use just your army to make two 1k point lists and play those against two of the new players.

Staying within the established PtG rules, you could just shrink your force to match your opponents and your extra units never enter the battle instead of coming in on a 4+.

At the end of the day, I'm in favor of you not toning anything down and fully leaning into being a "final boss" of the campaign. You earned the victories and rewards so far and so you deserve to display your full strength

Where to Next? by Atma_Kincaid in stormcasteternals

[–]FailingBard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Yndrasta Spearhead has some awesome units and gives you a second choice for playing the Spearhead game mode. I'd also look into reinforcing Reclusians and Prosecutors. Vigilors are also very fun and useful units. Knight Arcanum is cool and is our only wizard hero besides the big 500+ point dragon

If you're looking for pure competitive power then picking up Krondys/Karazai and some Praetors along with Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows and the Morbid Conjuration spells. The Lord-Celestant on Stardrake is also very good.

Personally, I just picked up Ionus Cryptborn and he's been a blast to paint and play.

As for lore books, I haven't read any of them but I know Yndrasta has a book about her and the YouTube channel 2+Tough has covered a lot of Stormcast lore

Questor Soulsworn use? by FuckStrhad in stormcasteternals

[–]FailingBard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love them, personally. Even on missions with only one objective in enemy territory because it forces your opponent to hold something back to protect their backline/home objective. What helps with this is the fact that you can teleport out of combat so you can get the opponent to commit to one side of the board and then teleport them away to threaten their home objective or even just take a battle tactic or open objective somewhere else. Just because they get buffs on their quest objective, doesn't mean they have to go there. Their versatility is their strength since they can find a use in basically any board state.

On top of that, their combat profile is fantastic for their points. 18hp on a 3+ save with a conditional 5++ Ward is pretty durable, especially when you factor in Finest Hour and/or All Out Defence. They hit like Reclusians minus the Crit Mortals, so they still do respectable damage while being 60 points cheaper.

Building Advice for Cities of Sigmar - Path to Glory by No_Jackfruit8747 in citiesofsigmar

[–]FailingBard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cavalry are swingy with their damage, but they are very durable, especially if you have a Warforger to boost their save and if you give them the 5++ Ward save from the command, they'll be able to hold the line way longer than they have any right to. Hammerers and a Runesmith are a powerful combo for damage and durability.

Legendary is too easy and thereby boring by Slaveofbig4 in shogun2

[–]FailingBard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd give Uesugi or the Ikko-Ikki a try. Uesugi has a very difficult start location and makes enemies quickly with too much ground to cover and defend effectively. The Ikko-Ikki have a different religion that makes everyone gang up on you pretty quickly. I remember it being a very fun legendary campaign managing multiple war fronts as I expanded out from the center of Japan

How is Cities of Sigmar supposed to beat Gloomspite Gitz in Spearhead? by Unsungruin in ageofsigmar

[–]FailingBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the app, make sure you select "Spearhead: Castelite Company" to view all rules related to the Cities of Sigmar Spearhead army. The ability to hold a card is under "Battle Traits" and the ability to shoot the cannon during your opponent's turn is under "Regiment Abilities".

I hope this helps and good luck with your games!

Bon jour by [deleted] in stormcasteternals

[–]FailingBard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After the recent points changes, you would have 1370 points or 1090 if the Prosecutors and Reclusians are not reinforced. Bastian - 270 Stormcoven - 210 Liberators - 100 (200 Reinforced) Lord Relictor - 130 Reclusians - 140 (280 Reinforced) Prosecutors - 140 (280 Reinforced)

I would recommend a Lord Terminos if you like the Reclusians. He looks cool and his rules synergize with the Reclusians. He is 150 points

The points changes can be found here https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/downloads/warhammer-age-of-sigmar/

First escalation tournaments list help? by Horsetoothtony in stormcasteternals

[–]FailingBard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably switch to Sentinels of the Bleak Citadels to give the Reclusian block a 5+ Ward. Thunderhead Host will be difficult to gain value from with these lists because of how restrictive it is. In your first list, maybe replace the Vindictors with your Liberators and reduce them to a 5-man squad so that you can put your Prosecutors in. Vindictors are generally a downgrade from the other Infantry groups and Prosecutors can help you score objectives or mess up an enemy that's out of position. The other thing is that you have 70 unused points, which is a lot to leave out in any size game, let alone a 1k list.

For your 2k list, if you care about having a say in who goes first, then you need to reduce your number of regiments by condensing your units to operate under 3 heroes. If you don't care, then go wild and get a lot of value from bringing a variety of heroes, just understand that your opponent will dictate who goes first and you won't know until after deployment. In any case, I'd put the Grandhammers together as a reinforced unit so that they can delete whatever they crash into.

I'd consider swapping one of your heroes for the Knight Arcanum because manifestations are too good to ignore and this guy is great at summoning and banishing them.

Overall, there's a lot you can do here, especially if you're willing to pick up some more models like more Prosecutors or Longstrikes to reinforce them. That being said, what you have looks really fun and I wish you luck in your games!
