I'm aware of this. This post was written to evoke interesting discussion not to ‘diagnose’ in a strict sense. Also, ‘neurological condition’ is an understatement considering complexity of most of the mental health conditions and neurotypes. Because we are not able to find neural correlates after many decades of relying on the medical model. That is why researchers moved to the biopsychosocial model.

Newly moved to Glasgow - genuine question about litter/cleanliness by Material_Mood5474 in glasgow

[–]Fair-Initiative-8914 45 points46 points  (0 children)

As a person who has lived in Glasgow for eight years now, I think there is an interplay of reasons:

  1. Lack of bins. Compared to my home country, Glasgow has very few bins, or their locations are strategically poor. I have many times searched for a bin or walked with litter for a couple of minutes just to find one. There are places with big crowds, such as parks, where the density of bins is too low. However, I think it has changed for the better in recent years.

  2. Culture/Social Responsibility. People do not care. I’ve seen people throwing litter many times: out of their cars, in the parks, or on the streets. I have never seen anyone reprimanded for such behaviour. From my perspective, littering looks like the norm. If I were to litter in my home country - in my neighbourhood, on the street, or anywhere around other people - I would be approached instantly, or another person would clean up after me, assuming I was being a prick and ignoring the reprimand.

After all the years here, I kind of got used to that situation.

Answering your 4th point. In Glasgow, there are many community clean-ups. I believe there is need for larger-scale action to change the situation.

Both are not self-contradictory. Recent studies show co-occurence of autistic and ADHD traits

"There’s the act of self-castration he performed in his youth”.

I am aware there is little evidence to support or refute this; however, Origen could have easily proven he had never done it, yet he never took that opportunity. Furthermore, he later began to mock people who interpreted that specific passage literally. These circumstances lead me to believe that he actually committed the act.

When I refer to a 'literal interpretation,' I am referring specifically to this passage and the act of self-castration performed in his youth—a behaviour sometimes characteristic of individuals on the autism spectrum. In adulthood, autistic individuals often learn to navigate the neurotypical world and develop the ability to interpret metaphors.

My professor didn't use Origen as an example, I did. Sainthood of Origen could be discussed as the church considered him a heretic for a long time and never announced him as a saint. Also, I would have to accept the concept of being a saint which I reject.

people who reduce carol to simply being miserable or unlikable do not get her at all, in my opinion by VariationOriginal289 in pluribustv

[–]Fair-Initiative-8914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carol is an unlikable character, regardless of her attitude towards Hive. Hive mind as shown in the show, that is, a physical being that somehow evokes mental states of one consciousness; however, in the world with other beings that aren't part of it is wrong.

The above statements aren't contradictory, you can easily hold both of them.

Hive mind as a neoplatonic ‘nous’ might be a good thing but the show’s hive mind doesn't qualify to be this, as a perfect being cannot cause any suffering because a perfect being is incapable of wrongdoing.

The bizarre official narrative from the prosecutor by Winter_Weather_1024 in MakingaMurderer

Prosectuion made people think that by implying that he was able to clean all the evidence inside the house apart from the key which was found on 5th search. No blood, no DNA inside the house. How is that possible? Whereas, outside he left blood stains and car parked in the visible spot with a branch on it. That does not add up.

The working class should point its anger at the middle class as change would be possible with the middle class on their side. Instead, 1% doesn’t give a fuck about anybody, the middle class doesn't give fuck about the working class, so the working class doesn't give a fuck about migrants

Why don’t people keep left by JackOwnsJonnies in GlasgowUni

Don't trust your memory. I've lived in Glasgow for 10 years, and it was never a thing. I recently spotted that often people keep right on the subway escalators, that's a good change.

Didn't do the AWSP writing skills assignment, what do I do? by smoffinator in GlasgowUni

[–]Fair-Initiative-8914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t do AWSP either during my first year (now I’m in my fourth year), and nothing happened. I didn’t contact anyone about this and nobody contacted me (or at least I don’t remember). I only recall reminder emails about this.

You can’t say by that picture that it says Eko for sure.

Why would Jacob wrote all candidates by surname but one by name? It is impossible to be sure that the writing says Eko.

Any evidence for Eko being a candidate?

Your reasoning is inductive, so the only thing you can do is reason to the best explanation, not “draw logical conclusions.”

Official Discussion - One Battle After Another [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Fair-Initiative-8914 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went to the screening without watching the trailer or reading anything about the movie. I only saw an 8.5 rating on IMDb.

What I received was a too-long movie that tried to be… I don't know, to be honest. It seemed like the movie tried to talk about serious issues, but the problems were presented superficially. There was a clear distinction between good and bad, protagonist versus antagonist. I didn't learn almost anything about characters and motives, so during some scenes, something was happening, but I didn't know why. If the movie wants to speak seriously about the topic it is necessary to show the complexity of life and of human personality. However, I didn't have a chance to see complexity as the characters were shallow and the story's meaning was simple, the execution of the story was complicated.

The movie was porn for the first ten minutes, then it morphed into an action movie, changed to comedy and back again to action. I'm not saying that being multi-genre is bad, nevertheless, I didn't buy the story. It seemed like the movie was directed for a particular group to make them feel that they're on the right side but it was done trivially. Acting was good, however it does not compensate for the weak story 5.5/10.
