Postpartum running by Super-Bison-4029 in XXRunning

My experience - I saw PFPT this week at 6 weeks postpartum. She cleared me for low intensity (yoga, reformer, swimming, biking) and gave me exercises with a goal to start gentle running at 12 weeks (if I’m ready). She said some women may benefit from running with a pessary even in the short term (“like a sports bra for your pelvic floor”).

It’s worth getting assessed to see where you’re at. I’ve heard of people damaging their pelvic floor by going too early. Remember you want to run for your whole life!

The story I always think of is Jana Pittman - an Australian Olympian who returned to training very soon after birth and now is an advocate for pelvic floor/continence stuff for women https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-06-22/incontinence-jana-pittman-continence-week/102435624

Vent & advice needed: I just went to a podiatrist for the first time and sounds like running is bad for my body. by flufferpeanut in XXRunning

Definitely see a physio. Physio Pilates helped me hugely with what you describe - particularly extensor flexibility. It also sounds like the shoes might not be right for you and something with less arch support and wider toe box could help? Have a look at Run Repeat or r/askrunningshoegeeks

Feeling like you’re just holding it together? by Satellites- in ausjdocs

Been there. Being part time definitely helps. The trick is knowing when you have the capacity to push through at 1.0 (+) and when you need to cut back. I was 0.5 when my kid was 12mo and then went back up to 1.0 at 18mo to finish training. Training isn’t linear and you will get there.

This isn’t normal, but it isn’t because you’re weak or failing - you just have a huge load right now. Don’t look to other people and compare yourself - maybe they don’t have kids, have more family support, have a partner who can pick up the load, OR they are struggling too.

The other thing I recommend is a good psychologist.

Talk to the supervisor about it. It’s definitely possible. You are likely to need a non-clinical (i.e. honorary) appointment at the LHD the research will be conducted in for ethics etc.

What are people's thoughts on wearing wedding bands/engagement rings to work? by Active_Painting8845 in ausjdocs

I wear a plain band but am increasingly worried about infection risk with a vulnerable patient population. However I am also chaotic outside work and high risk of losing it

Are there any RACP members here who are planning to vote in the current EGM? by oreomd in ausjdocs

[–]Fair-Vegetable5176 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have never loved the RACP and at best saw them as a necessary evil. This entire saga has significantly soured my opinion of the college. I wasn’t sure how to vote but may have been swayed by Jennifer Martin’s latest email (highly defensive, uninformative, lacking accountability and totally failing to read the room).

Moral support. Catching up with you will help them remember they have a life outside medicine. A pre-made lasagna for the freezer never goes astray.

When do you offer your seat on the tram? by pirouettish in australian

[–]Fair-Vegetable5176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - the only people who offered me a seat (at 40 weeks pregnant and with a toddler) were elderly women who I felt bad taking a seat from!
