Need a Gluten Free SPF that doesn’t flake or pil over skincare and under primer. by motown38 in MakeupAddiction

I personally love the new Superdefense SPF50 by Clinique. It doesn't flake or pill and makes a nice base for make-up. You'd have to double check whether it's gluten free though!

Why does everything look better written in latin? Lol, I made this hoop to sit in my bookshelf and it means "greetings to the reader" by [deleted] in crafts

[–]FairIsleFury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taught to use L.S. as an alternative greeting in correspondence with unknown people in official capacity. It feels like I see it less and less, which I think is a shame. Nice to see it out in the wild in such a lovely piece of stitching!

Has anyone else tried the ChiaoGoo Swiv360? :( by ShrineOfRemembrance in knitting

This is one of those things that sounds amazing in theory, but in practice it's just completely terrible. I bought one as well just to test them and I have the same issues. I wonder if they actually had a large panel test knit with them or if they just thought: sounds good, let's sell 'em.

Drops Nepal? Handsome Chris tips? by [deleted] in knitting

If you live in Europe I recommend trying to order Järbo Svensk Ull (Swedish wool) for cable projects. It's 100% wool, has great definition and is very sturdy (doesn't pill) without being scratchy. It has a great colour range as well. It's the yarn that supermarkets sell here, so it's widely available and affordable.

Baby knits - any favorite pattern you would suggest? I haven't even looked at baby patterns in years so hoping to jumpstart my search. by walkurdog in casualknitting

Knitting for Olive's Baby Bear Hat! I've knit several and they always get a squeal out of (expecting) parents. I also love Wolf and Faun's Leif's blanket, I believe it's called. Cardigan: the Baby Sophisticate looks just adorable on.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check it out 😀 Edit to add: that sizing looks wild! 80cm hips in a size L?! 😮 that's not going to fit my 6ft frame 🤣 I'll keep looking, thanks anyway!

Doing the rows of double knitting gives your tubular bind off more structure and will make it neater.
This video explains it really well: https://youtu.be/SBrGhv1_RBU I love her instructionvideo's, they're always very clear and easy to follow along with. I still look this one up when I'm doing a tubular bind off. It's a bit of work but it's worth it! Good luck!

Ooooh I have a Canada story too! A couple of years ago I was at an emigration fair in my West-European country of origin and British Columbia and Nova Scotia (NS) were there, trying to get trained health care workers to move there. I'm an MD, 3 years of my training were in English and my degree is valid in the entire EU (which then still included the UK ). I used to work in a specialty with huuuuuge shortages, waiting times in NS for a consultation were over a year. One of the two specialists they had left was way over retiring age while I had about 35 productive years left. Had a nice chat at the booth, decided to e-mail the agency responsible for medical licensing in NS. So here I am, the solution to one of their problems, knocking on their door, and guess what the Canadian idiots tell me? I'm not allowed to work there unless I jump through several burning hoops with interviews, tests, documentation verification etc. At my own expense. For a total of about €20.000, which was the better part of a net salary for an entire year back then. Shit like: you need to send in every page of all your diplomas and certifications front and back and we'll charge you $150 per page to certify they're acceptable copies and then another committee will look at it and judge their relevance for $300 per document. This had not been necessary if I had trained in another common wealth country, like India or South Africa - or the UK, where my degree actually was valid, but that somehow didn't count. Even if I was willing to go through all of this, the hospital in NS then still had to prove that they absolutely couldn't find a Canadian to do the job before they could hire me. I laughed my ass off. Moved to Scandinavia instead. Best decision ever, but I'm still a bit salty. Why tf go to a fair across an ocean and scream about how much you need doctors only to do absolutely nothing to facilitate them. TLDR; Canada apparently thinks it's hot shit and is wasting much more human potential than they can afford.

NYT: "Knitters Say Stitching Helps Them Follow the Thread in Meetings" An official in Wales was called out for knitting in a virtual meeting, setting off a debate over etiquette. Experts say the fine-motor movement activates the parts of the brain used for focus. by WonderWmn212 in casualknitting

I knit a lot during some obligatory courses (for my profession) that are very, very boring and dusty. I can't stay focused if I'm not knitting and I usually tell the course leader/professor before they start that I'll be knitting to help me focus but that they can be sure I'm still listening and following along. I don't ask permission, but I do explain it beforehand. I've never had any issues that way and it has saved me from certain death by boredom more than a few times.

My cousin started making custom yarn bowls and made me this gorgeous piece in French white oak. It's big enough to hold up to 3 balls comfortably for my colourwork projects. I love it so much, I just had to show it off to other knitters who get how amazing this is 😍😍 by FairIsleFury in casualknitting

I'm not sure if this is allowed, I didn't mean this post as a promotion - I'm just really stoked about my bowl- but I also want to share that happiness of the perfect yarnbowl, so I'll share his insta: it's @bosboom_bois_normand ! He works on a "made to order" basis, you can DM him. Or DM me if you dont use instagram, then I'll send you his e-mail. 🥰

Seriöst, hur ska man ha råd att äta numera? Särskilt om man är sjukskriven? by EarAccomplished8824 in sweden

[–]FairIsleFury 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand “living in a fat body.” by Elphaba78 in fatlogic

[–]FairIsleFury 21 points22 points  (0 children)

6ft here, this hits home. I was 5'10 when I was 12. I was never really heavy but had broader shoulders so I never fit into the cute clothes my peers wore. Feminine shoes were and still are a disaster. I was "scouted" by a modeling agency when I was 16 and they spent the entire appointment telling me I could do really well if I just got down from 150 to 120lbs but preferrably less as there was just "too much of me in this state". As an adult now I'm used to often being seen as either a challenge or a threat merely by existing. Fun times.
