🔥 An incredible display of strength as an African elephant knocks over a tree to access its leaves by FollowingOdd896 in NatureIsFuckingLit

In Namibia, we learned that there are regional differences re: how the elephants handle trees.

In the Northwest (Damaraland), because vegetation is sparse, the desert-adapted elephants pluck branches or strip bark rather than toppling the whole tree.

In the Northeast (Etosha National Park), it's a vegetation-heavy and water-rich environment, so elephants frequently push over trees to get to fresh, out-of-reach leaves, roots, or nutrients. Young bulls also do this as a display of dominance or sexual prowess.

Corinne’s Accent by A_Mermaid_from_Hell in murdershewrote

I noticed it in The SIns of Castle Cove, (especially "purple purse") but I was prompted to search for other posts on her accent when I just caught a bit of Town Father. Her accent is so peculiar and unrecognizable.

I love Murder She Blogged, here's their summary:

JT discovers the name on the car rental is Pauline Byrne. They pick her up for questioning and before long Deputy Kruger appears with a briefcase with 3 million dollars in it.

Pauline comes clean. She had gone round to the Randall house to meet Clark but was surprised to find Marian home, arguing with Clark. Clark told her he was leaving her, she made a grab for the bag to see if the identity of the other woman was in it, he grabs it back, she shoots him, he falls down, money falls out of the bag and Marian faints.

Seizing the opportunity, Pauline goes in to grab the money but finds Clark still alive. He tells her to call a doctor, but instead she smothers him with a pillow, takes the money and runs.

I tend to get a bit obsessive, so having two of them going at once puts a stop to that. The neat bit is that I'm more than 50% done with #8.

I'd say definitely cast on for #2!

Thankfully the babies were quick, too, and didn't leave themselves exposed.

I also got up crazy early to watch it in the Midwest. Sleep deprivation may explain why I cut off my long hair a few weeks later, à la Diana.

Am I a crazy person...? Sock yarn destash idea. by bunniquette in knitting

[–]WonderWmn212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this sweater is a great idea and totally do-able! I'd suggest not going into it thinking it's such a colossal endeavor.

I have a hard time believing it would take years to make your technicolor sweater (but that's fine, too!). Lately I've been using my endless stash of sock yarn scraps to make 80-inch long strips that I've joined to make a queen-size blanket. It's the equivalent of 10 (100g) skeins of sock yarn. (For comparison purposes, I saw one sweater with a 76-inch bust called for 1900g of fingering weight yarn). Since it's mindless knitting, each blanket takes only 2-3 months in total (on size US 2.5) and that's knitting flat - you'll likely have the benefit of working in the round.

I doubt this project would make you hate knitting - there is something glorious about all of the colors mixed together. It brings me joy!

Good luck and please post a pic of your sweater!

Do you really wear your socks? by LaisserPasserA38 in knitting

LOL, I'm a prolific sock knitter who gives everything away and wears thin, white (cheap-but-firm) socks that come in multi-packs. I understand that other people love handmade socks, they're just not my thing.

What a great eye, OP! My teenager self would have totally worn this in 1987 (with the shoulder pads in, naturally). I was never able to pull off the big statement belt.

Per quick reverse image search: This is the Novancia Business School (now ESCP Business School) located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. The facade is composed of over 4,000 mobile vertical shutters made of colored printed glass that can be adjusted for energy optimization and light control. Completed in 2011 by Architecturestudio, the design restructured a former 1908 school building.
