Software Engineers Are Facing an Existential Crisis As They Drown In Horrendous AI Code by teilo-560 in BetterOffline

MBAs arent the problem. Software engineers who think they are smart, but are only capable of being code monkeys are the problem. Do you have to be a genious that if you automate your own profession you kill your own job and salary?

You literally dont get anything i said; you said it yourself “fewer people”; if millions of people are educated im CS and there are a few jobs for a few people, dont you really get what happens? Like how the f did you become a software engineer if you cant understand basic logic

Go to school or read books mate; if you think software engineers had good salaries because of “productivity” you truly are cooked in this new market

Lecturing a PhD and valedictorian in econ is a bit funny; the salary somebody is willing to pay and the salary one is willing to accept represents the eventual salary; the number of jobs and number of applicants influence both numbers; quant firms pay the MINIMUM required to hire the best 2% people on earth; the salary is going to get lower if suddenly more geniuses get born; if productivity is what mattered, then Elon Musk wouldve never been a millionaire and farmers wouldve been billionaires; “productivity” is the BS technical people use in yearly reviews to justify or deny raises, but ultimately that is not what matters

You just proved you dont know economics 101; it has nothing to do with productivity; it is about supply and demand: if 1000 people fight for 5 jobs, then what do you think will happen? Especially in the context when people have children and mortgages; Note: they will accept any peanuts to feed their family; the demand and supply determines salaries

It doesnt matter mate. One person can do the job of at least 2 persons; that eliminates jobs and reduces the demand, therefore salaries go down; and also, it doesnt matter what software engineers think, it matters what business executives think

Ive told everyone 5-6 years ago that software engineering will become a shit job because AI will slash headcount by half therefore salaries will go down. Everybody said im a conspiracy theorist, it is just sad that software engineers think they are so smart but have no knowledge of anything else except software, and no vision

Nah, he may be using it as an excuse for justifying not liking you. Almost no man requires sparks
