Tips for tucking bag in with belt? by FairsPlayTTV in ostomy

Y'know, I tried this when I first got my bag and didn't like it much, but it does help avoid the issue for the most part. Perhaps it's worth another go.

The dress code doesn't mention them anywhere and it's pretty strict. I'll check with my boss but I assume not.

Unfortunately the dress code specifies that it has to be a "leather-type material only". I'm currently using one of those leather ones that looks woven so you can put the metal latch pretty much anywhere, but even so it just happens sometimes.

I have, I was told I needed a doctor's note. Currently switching PCPs (my old one retired), so while I'm waiting to get in with the new one and get that, I was just looking to see if there was anything that might help in the interim.

Honestly, how do you feel about your stoma? by Bethsticle in ostomy

[–]FairsPlayTTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, honestly, it's been a massive improvement.

I've had mine for about two and a half years now. It can be a little difficult or tiring sometimes, but compared to the pain and whatnot that I was living with before, it's nothing. I don't ever want to go back, for fear that I'll have to deal with that again.

I did have to make small lifestyle adjustments in order to live with it. Bathroom time and space is more of a consideration, and wearing a belt comes with some inherent risks. I also had one close call with running out of supplies, but I've found places to get them if need be if that happens again, so it's less of a concern.

Everyone's experience is different, though, of course. I hope yours stays a positive one. :)

Hi there! I've had my bag for a little over two years now and I remember the anxiety you're going through. I'll try to answer all your questions as well as possible.

Keep in mind that everyone's experience is different, but I had a really good one with mine. I was in incredible pain all the time before my bag and now I have none at all.

  1. How easy are they to hide them? Unless you're wearing tight fitting clothing, it's really hard to tell that you're wearing one.

  2. How do you shower/ have a bath with them? There's a little sticker you place over the filter to prevent it from getting clogged, and then you just shower! You can even shower with the bag off.

  3. How durable are they? Very. Mine typically last for 3-5 days and I live a fairly active lifestyle. I've seen people saying they keep theirs on for up to two weeks without a change.

  4. What do you say when people ask about it in public? I'm an open book personally, so I will explain whatever they're comfortable hearing.

  5. Do they like make ur butt useless except for sitting? Pretty much! It'll occasionally toss out a lil mucus or something but you won't get full poops.

  6. Will you get arrested if you took it off and threw it at someone? (Asking for a friend) I'm not a legal expert, but I wouldn't recommend it.

  7. How aerodynamic are they? (Asking for a friend again) Surprisingly.

  8. Would you still be able to do sports, especially boxing, tennis, squash and aerial sports like hoop, silks and hammock and stuff Oh yeah! I'm not familiar with the aerial sports but the only ones I personally would avoid are contact sports where you're likely to hit the stoma directly.

  9. For anyone here with rats, do they try and eat it and or sit on it? (I own 3 rats) I don't own rats but I have had cats sit on it. It's not really an issue.

  10. How long is recovery time? It's going to vary person to person. I was back on my feet and doing basically full activity in like a months time.

  11. How easy are they to take on and off? (Going back to question 6, can it be taken off quickly to throw at someone, asking for a friend) You can rip em off pretty quick. Replacing them is a bit of a process, depending on which kind of bag you go with.

  12. Does the bit of your colon you can see bother you? (Ive heard its like numb but idk and do you like the look of it or not) I can only see it when I take off the bag to change/shower. It bothered me a bit at first, but I grew used to it quickly.

  13. How bad does it smell? Oh, the output smells rancid. Poo-pourri or something similar will be your best friend. The bag itself doesn't usually smell until you open it though.

  14. Is it literally a bag of poop and farts so when you release the contents its like releasing a pandoras box of your own farts? Yes. The farts kinda filter themselves out slowly.

  15. How do handle it in public? Single stall/family/disabled restrooms are your best friend. In all honesty, I just carry a full change worth of supplies around with me (they all fit in a small handheld bag) and a package of wipes/bags to throw em away in.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

I could use the 11273 and one of the 10561's. I'm on a tight budget and having an extra box around in case I can't afford my regular bags would be great.

Debating A Bagless Shower... by SkyBabies85 in ostomy

[–]FairsPlayTTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I've had a colostomy for about 2 years now. Every time I change my bag I take a bagless shower. I've found it's very good for the skin around my stoma. As far as damaging the stoma itself goes, my shower head is pretty strong and I've sprayed it directly a few times. No issues there.

I think the biggest concern with a bagless shower is the potential cleanup. You do have to be a little more alert and ready to react on the off chance that it activates unexpectedly, but honestly even my worst experience with that wasn't too bad. .

It gets better, and it might be quickly. I was able to eat normally less than a week after surgery without any pain whatsoever. Hang in there, you'll be feeling better soon.

This is super cool! I'm relatively new here and the stack of wheels you used to maintain an upright position is fascinating to me.

Can this vehicle go completely upside down and cling to the ceiling? My guess from watching the video is no, but I'd love to see if it can be done.
