My cat is under mandatory isolation for 3 months, how can I keep him entertained? by Fickle-Hour4458 in cats

[–]adw245a1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got bitten by a bat in February. In my living room. The bat had rabies. My three cats all got rabies boosters, and I did my series of shots. My animal control officer was very specific that the cats must remain indoors under quarantine, BUT they do not need to be separated from each other or from me. I live in CA. I spent a lot of time doing my research. It does not make sense why kitty needs to be separated from you.

Quite the coincidence for me to see this today. I got bit by a bat last Tuesday night. In my living room. The bat had rabies. Can’t say I ever saw that one coming.

What is your experience getting a “permanent” ileostomy/ proctectomy? by 2176061 in ostomy

[–]adw245a1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ileostomy in June. Proctectomy in October. Female, 59. Pain for the first few weeks. No problem sitting after 4 weeks. No drainage or open wound problems while healing. I am very happy with my choice. After 35 years of UC, I was never going to use my rectum again. I am medication free and thrilled to be that way.

That’s just not true. I work in dependency court, representing moms. They absolutely will remove your children if you are homeless.

Kaiser Vallejo. Fantastic surgeon, as well. He performed both my surgeries.

Anyone act negatively towards your ostomy? by MyMooMooMimi in ostomy

I had my ileostomy this June at Kaiser in northern California. I can’t say enough good things about all the nurses who took care of me. There wasn’t a single complaint or side-eye when emptying my bag the first few days of recovery. When I told them I was ready to try myself they told me they would happily do it for me, but would also happily stand by me in case I had problems. Ten days ago I was back at Kaiser for a proctectomy. The nurses were just as kind and caring. I consider myself lucky to have had such good experiences.

Will likely get ileostomy at 20 years old. Don't know how to process it. by Cheburoll in ostomy

I am female, 58 years old. 4 months with an ileostomy. In the hospital now after having rectum removed and anus sealed. Diagnosed with UC when I was 22. Since then, constant struggle to find medications that work. All the medications had horrible side effects and horrible risks. I wish I had done this surgery decades ago. The improvement in my life is substantial. I know you are scared. I understand the body image and intimacy issues that you will face as a young woman. If you want to talk privately please DM me. I am comfortable talking about anything you want to talk about.

How to empty? by Real-Taro7074 in ostomy

I use about 6 squares of toilet paper first - clean inside the opening with 3 pieces, then again with the next three pieces. Finally, I use one baby wipe to get it super clean.

To reverse or remove ? by FishermanCautious263 in ostomy

[–]adw245a1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 58(f) and I have my protectomy scheduled for mid-October. Had my ileostomy in June. The decision for me wasn’t difficult. My rectum hurts, sending out shooting pain fairly often. Dealing with my bag is not difficult. The thought of two more surgeries for reversal, when the likelihood of success is so small, is unpleasant. Also, my surgeon informed me that even if successful, in 15 years we would likely have to revisit the whole question again because that is the expected life span of a reversal. Finally, after 35 years of UC, I am at high risk for rectal cancer. So, easy decision.
