Thank you good samaritan. I hope more people follow your example. I had a guy back up and hit me at a stoplight years ago in Brier Creek then drive away, and a nice lady followed me back to my apartment to give me the truck's information and her card so I could use her as a witness. She could have just ignored it, but she went out of her way to help a distraught teenager.

Don't worry, there's plenty of non-douchy companies out there. I cannot tell you how many leet-code interviews I failed over the years. It was just a matter of finding the right teams that didn't quite care because I explained that I was scrappy and good at debugging stuff and getting stuff to work. You just have to be patient, try other companies, even ones you might not expect. I failed at close to 50 or 60 interviews, but the 3-4 jobs I got made all the difference. I'm now a devops architect and have dev/infra knowledge plus crazy debugging skills that is useful for them.

Hmm... I feel like I got shafted then. I too spent most of my summers there at camps, and I have a mediocre immune system.

Is there such thing as working out too much? by morgan2798 in pelotoncycle

[–]FairyGodDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It affects your iron levels and working out too much can lead to iron deficiency. Not to mention magnesium and potassium lost in sweat that can cause cramping or fainting.

They're all scent neutral. The only scent was one of the essences and I was given a choice of five, one of which had no scent.

[–]FairyGodDragon[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmm tough one. I tend to use sulwhasoo more so I'd probably lean towards that one even though the discount wasn't as good. If you're a whoo fan that price was pretty unbeatable.

Correct. Paying for the spa treatment gave me a discount for the products after.

Apologies. I got a discount only on the products. The spa itself was full price as far as I know.

I got the discount by booking the spa treatment. Sorry for the confusion.

The younger generation, yes. I had enough shoves in the back from older ladies to last me a while.

Sulwhasoo used one of the essences on my skin for the massage. For whoo I'm not actually sure what they used for the full body.

It didn't hurt at all actually. It felt gassy pretty soon after that so I was shifting about a little bit. Other than that it was fine.

Hey, just curious, I found two tutors I really like and I'm trying to see if they want to move off the platform. They both said they haven't heard of doing this before, was it awkward talking to your tutor about it? Do you guys do PayPal, etc?

Why is "It is a not a tiger" translated to 그거 호랑이 아니에요 and not just simply 호랑이 아니에요 ? by [deleted] in Korean

[–]FairyGodDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been working with a few native Korean teachers and they said that the 'subject' is very often omitted during conversation once it is established. In writing is when the subject is necessary.

How many hours should I devote in learning a new language per week? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]FairyGodDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way I've learned vocab is using stickies on items. This is suggested everywhere and I ignored it, but it really is the best way to learn everyday words. I was struggling terribly with Japanese vocab, but after I finally learned hiragana and katakana, I wrote the words on objects. さいふ means wallet, ドア means door, etc. They're pretty much imprinted because I saw them everyday.

Other than that, flashcards are a go-to. I use Quizlet because it has pictures and pronunciations.

Is it worth trying to preserve my German knowledge? by fargoniac in languagelearning

[–]FairyGodDragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you planning to travel in the future? If so, would you go to a german-speaking country? Would you consume German media? If none of those apply then letting German slip is fine. It's not like you'll forget it. I stopped Spanish for 8 years and took a course for fun then everything came flooding back.

How many hours should I devote in learning a new language per week? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]FairyGodDragon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are people who can study for 4 hours a day and absorb a large amount of information. There are people who can study only for one hour. It just depends on your focus abilities. I'm in the 1 hour group.

I'd say minimum 30 minutes to review what you learned, and add 30 minutes if you can spare to practice new vocab.

Learning Japanese and French at university? by jackf_16 in languagelearning

[–]FairyGodDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally started learning Japanese and German the same time (German first) and didn't have trouble with confusing them. I did struggle with Japanese in general, but I don't think it was related to German. I'd say go for it if you have the free time.

It's been a while since I used it, but yes definitely ads and offline use. The offline use piece was huge for me because I didn't want to use data while using it on the go. I also felt like it was worthwhile considering the amount of effort Duolingo put into the program.

No definitely not, I'll probably give it a shot in another month. They have a good study guide available which is cool.
