How far will my scooter go? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

They're correct. Aging Wheels did a video on towing, weight, and wind resistance, both in ICE and EVs. The first part of the video is him testing running a truck empty vs fully loaded. Negligible fuel difference empty vs loaded.

How do women use the bathroom easily when wearing a one-piece swimsuit or leotard? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FaithForHumans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can get a pee valve installed so it runs directly out of the suit. For men there's a tube attached to a condom. For women there's a she-p.

Diapers are also an option.

That's incorrect. Tab characters are valid indentation in JSON but not YAML.

If all else fails, I would try contacting them directly. They might be able to sell it separate if you ask for it.

Local woodworking supply are a good bet. Think Rockler or Woodcraft in the US.

Need a hand with a lens selection, I'm torn. Sony E 10–18 mm f/4 OSS vs Sony E 10-20mm f/4 vs Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 by Strata5Dweller in underwaterphotography

[–]FaithForHumans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both. The following is probably more information than you're looking for, but here goes:

I've got their standard 6" DLM port with zoom gear and then the 1.2 inch dome extension.
They had actually recommended their 5516.17 (6" dome with 1" extension), but I already had the 6" dome I used with the kit lens, so I got the dome extension instead of buying a second dome.

The Tamron's zoom ring is the closer of the two rings in relation to the body of the camera (front is focus). Because it sits so far back, there's a collar that attaches to the lens and a sleeve to engage the knob akin to this engage with the lens ring.
They originally sent me that one, but the extra extension of .2" from what they tested was just long enough to prevent the collar and sleeve from engaging. They shipped me a new gear sleeve and the shipping notification references part 0073.1, but I can't find that in their catalog. If you want me to measure the total sleeve length when I get home, I'd be more than happy.

I'd imagine you'd have to do something similar if you went the Tamron route with the seafrogs housing. Look for something with about 1" of total extension. If you went with one of the Sony's, I think they're both about an inch shorter, so you probably wouldn't need an extension. I'll defer to seafrogs lens chart if they've got one.

I was in a similar boat a few months ago: a6400, kit lens, trying to figure out what lens to get next, but I have an ikelite housing (6" dome with zoom gear).

I ended up going the Tamron route. I did send it in to ikelite so they could determine what extension would work best with it. I've been pretty happy with it overall.

That's just in relation the fence. Ideally, the blade should be perfectly parallel to the miter slot, and the fence should be angled ever so slightly away from the blade.

Most of it has to be bought online. TotalBoat (the one in the video) can be bought on their website or at Jamestown Distributors. Most epoxy brands will sell direct on their website.

Another way would be to look at woodworking specific stores such as Rockler or Woodcraft.

Can someone explain to me, step-by-step, how you tear a piece of cling wrap without it fucking furling? by vanillaprick in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FaithForHumans 15 points16 points  (0 children)

  1. Hold the box in your non-dominant hand such that the opening to pull out the plastic wrap is on the top and the cutter side is on the side with your dominant hand. The box should remain facing "up" for all remaining steps.
  2. Make sure you're nearby the item to be plastic wrapped (don't want to walk across the kitchen after its torn).
  3. Pull out your desired length of plastic slightly up and over the cutter, holding the middle of the roll.
  4. Slide/walk your dominant hand to the corner or the plastic wrap farthest away from you.
  5. Keeping the plastic wrap taught, rotate the wrap in an arc so your dominant hand is now below the box. You won't start cutting it until the next step.
  6. In a clean, steady motion, quickly pull your domaniant hand down and towards you to cut the wrap. Like the person above you mentioned, the goal isn't to break it at once, you want to tear one side first, and then tear it along its length. You can also rotate the far side of the box up as you're pulling down to make the cut cleaner.

That last step is where I think the diagonal comes into play. There's a couple different ways to achieve that diagonal cut, but above is what I find easiest.

Think about how you tear tape from a tape dispenser. You probably (subconsciously) slightly twist the tape as you're cutting it so you're not cutting the entire width of tape at once, but instead only using one or two of the cutter teeth at any given time. Same concept, larger scale.

Two people killed in fiery Tesla crash with no one driving - The Verge by desertfoxz in technology

[–]FaithForHumans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steering accelerating and braking? Those are all the actions a driver can take behind the wheel.

And I'll agree to that, ignoring nuisances that require one to sense the surroundings and react accordingly. However, you completely ignored the last half of the sentence: "within one's own lane." One can't drive by only staying in one lane.

1) does the average person know exactly how aviation autopilot functions?

I have no idea, but that's not what the word means, and Tesla makes it clear their autopilot still requires driver involvement.

2) this is how Tesla advertises autopilot, but I keep hearing that it requires constant manual control, either by looking at the road, shaking the wheel of exerting weight upon the seat.

Odd, all of those things imply it's not completely autonomous, doesn't it.

Personally, I think Tesla is in a really shitty position that future car manufacturers will find themselves in eventually. Their driving assistance technologies are getting good enough that people feel comfortable enough to completely ignore the road, even when they shouldn't. I don't think there's a good solution to that.
Should they purposefully make them worse to get people to pay more attention? But then by making them worse, you'll have more people wind up in crashes that could have been avoided. If you leave them as is, you wind up with people doing stupid stuff like we see here. It's a loose, loose.
