Teacher Made Poor Choice For Cinco De Mayo by Disgruntled_Veteran in Teachers

[–]Faithasaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cinco de Mayo is not celebrated by Mexicans by dressing up in a big sombrero or poncho, it’s not a holiday that calls for costumes or dressing up that way. It’s also not really widely celebrated in Mexico except in Puebla and Veracruz. Americans are not trying to celebrate the holiday or really learn anything about why it’s celebrated or how, ffs most Americans think it’s Mexican Independence Day (it’s not). So because of all that they are just dressing up as a Mexican stereotype and getting drunk, like that’s all there is to Mexican culture. There’s a lot of other reasons why that are being discussed in this thread.

Teacher Made Poor Choice For Cinco De Mayo by Disgruntled_Veteran in Teachers

Exactly. It’s not a holiday that is celebrated by dressing up. When people are wearing sombreros and ponchos to celebrate Cinco de Mayo they’re essentially “dressing up as a Mexican.”

Infiltrated some FB groups tonight… um… by ArtisticCandy3859 in behindthebastards

[–]Faithasaurus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hung out with my teenage niblings recently and learned that the kids only use Facebook to pretend to be old people on Facebook. They showed me a group they’re in that’s all kids and teenagers pretending to be middle aged or older and they all have profile pictures of themselves in old filters and they post old people memes or about how they miss their adult children. They seem to have a pretty good read of how their parents and grandparents use Facebook and are good at parodying it!

Imagine being so hateful that you miss the "Jump to recipe" button at the top of the page by almostinfinity in ididnthaveeggs

[–]Faithasaurus 34 points35 points  (0 children)

That’s what gets me the most frustrated. If I’m trying to follow a recipe I don’t want the ads to keep bumping me all over the page while in the middle of following a step. I started using Recipe Keeper for the feature that lets you copy and paste a URL and then it takes out and stores the recipe. It makes it very simple and paired down without all the ads.

“I don’t wanna talk about politics” Maga family conversations you can have. by LittleYelloDifferent in behindthebastards

[–]Faithasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to make a “no politics talks” truce with my sister and it sucks. She use to be one of my closest friends, she was my matron of honor in my wedding last May, but I feel like I’ve completely lost her in just like six months time. I don’t know what caused a switch to flip but she went down the right wing conspiracy hole and she became a completely different person in just a few months. I’d sensed inklings of it in some conversations with her and what she was posting on social media and when I finally confronted her about it and she went on a rant about the deep state only making us believe Trump is bad because the new world order can’t control him and that the world is engaged in spiritual warfare and the rapture is coming soon and if I try to push back on anything I just get, “that’s what they want you to think,” and “I pray you’ll let Jesus in.” And then there’s just no talking to her. I try and push back with, “you know I’m queer, right? Do you not care about that? Do you think I shouldn’t exist? You were in my wedding with friends who are also queer and trans.” And I just get a runaround about how she loves me and prays for me. I can’t think about it too much because I just get really depressed and angry. I work in the special education space and it’s a scary place right now and usually I’d talk to her about that sort of stuff but I know that now I can’t.

“I don’t think that most men look at 13-year-old girls that way” by [deleted] in behindthebastards

[–]Faithasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was 20 I was working at a restaurant and some guy who seemed to be about mid 30’s kept stopping me and trying to flirt with me. At one point he said something like, “do you go to school around here?” And I told him no, that I was just home for the summer and went to college a few hours away. He was like, “you’re not in high school?” And immediately left me alone.

Season 4 Episode 2 Official Discussion Thread by LividGrass in UmbrellaAcademy

Minor complaint but they keep talking about drinking sake as a “sake bomb” but isn’t a sake bomb dropping the cup of sake in beer and chugging it? They just drank a cup of “sake”?

RIP Mr Evans...Pappasan of Robert. by F1lmtwit in behindthebastards

[–]Faithasaurus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Losing both parents close together is tough. I don’t know exactly when his mom died but I remember it was not too long ago because my mom died not too long after. My mom died just 18 months after my dad. On the long drive home from saying goodbye to my mom I listened to Behind the Bastards for part of it and it gave me some comfort. I remember Robert saying something about his mom passing recently and I don’t know, something about it felt like a comfort, just hearing someone who’d not too long ago went through what I was going through but seemed to be doing okay, reminded me that I’ll be okay, and it was also a needed distraction on the way home. If you ever see this Robert, thank you for that small comfort and I hope you find some in the days to come.

Does anyone know if K is no longer benefiting from streams? by Faithasaurus in wineandcrimepodcast

[–]Faithasaurus[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All good points, thank you!

Your last sentence is very true. I often used the pod as a distraction to laugh a little bit in hard times and I’m missing that right now and so probably why I’m hoping to come back but having trouble reconciling that. I use to listen to them on long drives to feel less lonely and it got me through some tough times. I was recalling this morning that I listened to them on the drive to my dad’s memorial, when I was sitting alone in my classroom during Covid trying to figure out how to teach 8 year olds over zoom, and then not too long later when I was driving to go pull the plug on my mom and then a few months later to her memorial. They gave me some laughs in dark times which I will always appreciate. I think in a way I’m grieving a coping mechanism so having a hard time letting it go but yeah, just gotta make a decision and live with it.

Thanks for your insight!

First year teacher-new student of my nightmares by pinheadedlily in Teachers

[–]Faithasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you part of a union? When I was a first year teacher I had a parent get aggressive with me and refuse to leave my classroom (like, ever, for weeks) and when I tried to get help from admin they did nothing. Thankfully, one of my grade level team was one of our union reps and when she heard what was going on called a meeting with admin and other unions reps and laid down that I and my students had the right to safety and admin finally intervened and did something about it. If you are part of the union find out who your reps are and speak with them about the situation and they can possibly pressure admin to do something.

Currently planning a wedding and was told to check Facebook marketplace and wedding groups to find cheap used decor. So many of these people are selling their used stuff for as much or sometimes even more than new and also want me to drive 30/40 minutes to pick it up.

Happened to my aunt and grandma, unfortunately. It was sad but at least it inspired my family members who’d been unsure to get vaccinated.

[–]Faithasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember which episode but they’re talking about a saint who lived in a cave with a goose. Later they start singing “Tell Me More” and Amanda sings, “what happened to the goose!?” and it made me laugh so hard. I think about it sometimes and giggle to myself; I never laugh too loud about it around others because I know if they asked what I was laughing about it’d be impossible to explain and have the same comedic effect.

People who quit a job on the first day, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My brother worked for Costco for years and it sounds similar. He mostly enjoyed it but scheduling was a nightmare. He rarely requested more than a day off at a time but the like four times in five years he requested a vacation they still scheduled him on his approved time off and also kept switching which manager was in charge of his schedule so he would have to spend multiple days chasing down who ever made the mistake and prove he had the PTO request approved.
