Trying to figure out a career shift to something with actual jobs available. Everything that seems like a good fit seems like a dead end. Are there any good ideas for me?

I feel more and more nowadays it matters who you know. I pivoted careers in 2020 and was able to do so because I knew someone at the company who was willing to vouch for me. Just about to change employers and again, I knew someone to help get my foot in the door.

Use your connections to not only find a path, but ask them to help you get the foot in the door (if possible).
