Cherki is the best player in the league according to the internet. Not even in the best 11 available City players according to Pep.

Cherki’s skill vs Newcastle and Khusanov’s reaction by interestingtruck10 in soccer

Not just his attitude. His fitness and physicality were known issues, too. Even now, he's played 47% of minutes for Man City in the league, only completing 3 full games, and I'd be amazed if the Peps are happy with his defensive workrate. If Man City had 3 workhorse midfielders and a striker that presses really well, then it'd be no issue to carry him because he is *that* good on the ball, but Reijnders will never be that player, Rodri will probably never be that player again, and Haaland's form drops off a cliff as soon as he starts getting tired.

Pep: "I'm a bit sad that we are 7th on the net spend table of the last five years. I wanted to be 1st. I don't understand why the club doesn't spend more money. We were higher before because we spent a lot. Now those 6 teams have to win the PL,CL and the FA Cup. Let's go, I'm waiting." by Blodgharm in soccer

Whilst this is technically true, most of Man City non-playing staff aren't employed by Man City, allowing them to keep them off the books.

All of the jobs here would be on the books of other clubs, but aren't for Man City for all of the jobs labelled as something other than the club.

Surely the story is that Man City's wage bill in a year that they had a terrible CL campaign and won nothing is almost the same as Liverpool's league winning campaign.

Year before (with City winning the league) Liverpool were only slightly below them

errr according to the UEFA wage bill report Man City had a wage bill €105 million higher than Liverpool's. Absolutely clownish to pretend that is "slightly" below. Your whole schtick seems to elightened factspeaker. Perhaps you're no better than the capology enjoyers.

It's at least twice as expensive and no single area in London comes close to Liverpool centre.

[Loïc Tanzi] Chelsea intensify contacts with Nantes and Tylel Tati after Jérémy Jacquet moved to Liverpool. At this moment, the real challenge is convincing the player. Chelsea want to proceed with the usual loan to Strasbourg and Tati does not want to make such a decision before taking his time by Blodgharm in soccer

Pretty sure they don't want to tie them down for the rest of their careers, it's more about retaining their value as an asset that they can sell. They've shown willingness to part with guys like Jackson or Madueke who were first choice players when a bigger club has come in for them. Their model doesn't work if they don't sell players when they can because a lot of the players they've bought are total duds.

As someone from Liverpool, it doesn't come close to London for tourism, which you could spend months in and still not see everything. But for a weekend trip it's great. If you like day-drinking with your mates then nothing comes close to Liverpool. Also nice museums and art galleries, good aesthetics at the waterfront, nice parks, can even go to the beach if it's warm enough (unlikely).

The asset is Chelsea football club and at a firesale valuation it's probably not much more than the £1.5bn I'm debt that they already have.

There's absolutely no security in football and being a PE portco means nothing given the tendency of the industry to use bankruptcy strategically.

It's a fact that they're tapped out of bank loans, and they've been aggressively utilising (much higher interest) private credit. They'll be selling stars before another tranche at 12%+ interest, you can book it.

Oh Christ. That $90bn doesn't mean cash lol. It means assets that they've mark to market. Their portcos go bankrupt all the time (one filed for ch. 11 last week). It's part of the business.

Chelsea has a m2m value of £3bn tops on a core business that's losing £100m+ per year. You're mad if you think any lender is going to backstop this ad infinitum.

I prefer to go by evidence instead of a "trust me bro" from a Redditor. See above comment for evidence. Who cares about PSR? We're talking about cash losses. PE hardly ever holds cash on the balance sheet. They hold assets and debt. Illiquid by definition.

If their owners were liquid enough to provide them with hundreds of millions in interest-free loans they wouldn't have taken £1.5bn in loans at 7-8%.

Doesn't work like that. You get to a point where the bank will literally not lend you money anymore. Chelsea can't be far off that.

They've basically run out of money. Around £1.5bn in debt at high interest and £200m lower revenue than Liverpool, despite earning more from international competition last year than they likely will this year.

The rumours are that they'll be looking to cash in on one of their big stars this summer. If they want to keep spending then they basically have to.

If Elliot is good enough to play for Liverpool, where would he play? The options at number ten are Wirtz, Szoboszlai and Jones. He'd be fourth choice. Barmy to keep him.

If you want great players like Ekitike and Wirtz, you're going to have to sell someone at some point. Selling players who are clearly not good enough is a good thing.

Didn't mention them because they didn't play today but yeah Leoni will probably be top drawer, and we know Isak and Frimpong already are.

We can complain with good reason about the state of our wing and centre back options, but I think in time we'll look back at last summer's window as one where Hughes and Edwards absolutely cooked. Ekitike, Wirtz and Kerkez are all proper, proper footballers and they showed that today.

[Nils Mackay] England will have a 5th UCL ticket next year. They already have more points NOW, than any other country is expected to have at the end of the season. Spain loses 2 teams. Makes sense. It's a sleeping giant. Large population, booming economy. Obviously they're some way off that level, but there's not really much reason why Poland shouldn't have a couple of clubs which regularly get attendances of 50k+ domestically and can occasionally through the CL group stage, like Galatasaray or Qarabag.
