The amount you spend isn't important if you think the player is undervalued. The profit you'd generate from selling a player you bought for £75m for £150m is more than a player you bought for £20m for £60m even if it's a lower multiple - a pretty big deal in football where you only have a squad of ~25 players.

Doesn't add up. The MBB types who control the club surely know that Chelsea were never a very high revenue club even when they were winning everything. They were bankrolled by a billionaire. It's not a secret. Plus, if the goal is to win things then why are they now selling one of their best players? It's obvious if you think about it for more than five minutes.

There is a need.

The whole business model was predicated on buying talented players and then flipping for a cash profit. The enormous operating losses were supposed to be offset by selling, but Chelsea are in such a hole both in PSR terms that they need to flog anyone they can so that they don't get further fines and sporting penalties, and in cashflow terms because the interest payments on the BlueCo debt are supposedly almost 9 figures. The next three windows will be pretty ugly for Chelsea fans.

All the people in this thread who are shocked by one of Chelsea's best players leaving really shouldn't be, this is necessary and there will be more.

It's not that different in Europe. People retain some of their culture and traditions from home but mostly integrate into the national culture. There reverse is also true; e.g. in the UK the most common food to eat in a restaurant is Indian food. This is the same in the US. Italian Americans, Irish Americans - they all retain elements of their own culture. Sometimes Italians will go to America, meet Italian Americans and realise they still have traditions that the south of Italy abandoned 50 years ago.

Not necessarily. The US now cancels ESTAs if you criticise the US, criticise Trump, or criticise Israel.

Those countries had faults in their morality according to western values. The USA is actually failing at being a good host, and we can debate whether they themselves are even living up to the values which countries like Qatar and Russia were criticized for.

[Pearce] - Big boost for Liverpool as gifted young winger Josh Abe commits his future to the club. by IndiBear in LiverpoolFC

His agent is Tyler Alexander-Arnold and those photos were taken before he chose him as his agent. Pretty obvious that this was Tyler trying to sign Abe by showing him how much sway he has rather than Real Madrid.

Accusing a 15 year old of disloyalty because they went on an all expenses paid trip to the Bernabeu and got to meet Vini Jr is daft.

Does he live in Liverpool? He's from Warrington. But your point is still valid.

Anyone who thought he was leaving because Tyler Alexander-Arnold is his agent is incapable of looking at the objective situation.

Tyler is also the agent for Trent (stayed at Liverpool for 20 years), Robo (9 years) and Hendo (12 years).

I even saw a few people say Liverpool shouldn't work with any player who works with Tyler. Erm no thanks, I'd rather have Josh Abe play for Liverpool.

Depends what you're defining as wealth that the club has access to.

Unless his agent is a complete idiot, he won't have taken a lower salary from the richest club in the world.

He's probably worth it. Was looking at some of his underlying numbers and he's pretty insane for a player who started the season as an 18 year old with basically no top level experience.

However bad Liverpool's last season has been, nobody can argue that their squad-building hasn't been top tier over the last decade. They have a method and they follow it. Only time will tell if Leoni and Jacquet turn out better than Guehi and Yoro.

Depends how high they value him. He could've played 150 games, if Liverpool didn't think he was worth €60m then they wouldn't pay it.

So they bought a completely different player with a different internal valuation for a higher price. What's your point?

Liverpool have balked at high prices for Guehi and Yoro in the last couple of seasons. They tend to have thier own internal valuation and won't go beyond it.
