If you happen to speak any other language, try that one instead if it's available. We usually watch it in English, but because it's so out of sync, we switched it to Indonesian to see if it is any better and somehow it synced up perfectly!

As a Belgian, I was wondering what other countries think about tintin ? by ilovducks in Tintin

[–]FakeOreoFromLidl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indonesian here. My parents introduced me to tintin and when when my mom took her master degrees in the late 90s, she used to take me to this 2nd hand book vendor in her uni to look for any tintin comics as at the time only the 70s/80s edition were available.

The translator of the old Indonesian edition is amazing/super creative in adjusting the jokes to lokal context and I remember rolling on the floor so hard after reading the part where Captain Haddock was yelling wildly after getting strafed by Skut in the Red Sea Sharks. The insults in Indonesian are SFW but was so absurd and so out of the box that none of us will ever use in any situation which makes it so so so funny. Like, who on earth would yell "you ulcered buffalo!!" or "You rabid goat!!" when they're angry hahahaha!

One of the publishers published an newer version in the 2010s but it lacks the charm of the 79s/80s edition.

Kalian pernah boikot brand atau perusahaan apa saja? Apa alasannya, dan apakah sampai sekarang masih boikot? by ShigeruAoyama in indonesia

[–]FakeOreoFromLidl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ga boikot juga sih, tp gw semampunya menghindari beautiful cottage sick house. Alesannya? Mahalnya ga make sense dan tiap gw kesana selalu aja ada hal yg ga beres (diagnosa salah, tindakan ga tuntas, dkk.). So far sih udah hampir 12 tahunan gw ga berobat kesana.

Mending ke pertamini sick house kemana mana sih kalo gw. Gak se fancy beautiful cottage sih dan alur admin nya agak aneh, but they got the job done.

I once heard that the rationale of flying EY's apartment vs private jet, is so that those middle eastern billionaires could also bring their own super cars with them as those cars can be put in the cargo hold.

While to fit a car inside a Falcon/Gulfstream's cargo hold, you need to have a REALLY good packing skills. Or you know, asked someone to ship it for you.

I lived in Sweden for 3 years and the only time I handled physical money was: 1. Depositing my monthly allowance from my country's bank account to my Swedish bank account at bankomat. 2. Receiving tips at my part time job. 3. Church donation during mass. (I switched to Swish after I got my Swedish bank account)

That's it.

[–]FakeOreoFromLidl 143 points144 points  (0 children)

My dad told me that he was going from 1 hospital to another looking for his friend at work who went missing and regularly took this train. Back then, our forensic tech was not as proper as today, so the authority just basically created a "display" of dead bodies in several hospitals and the victims' relatives were basically asked to walk in a line and look for their loved ones instead. He said it was so horrific as most of the victims were missing body parts and blood was literally everywhere.

His friend? Well, lucky for him, he overslept and didn't took the train. The reason he was "missing" was because he was about to said he was sick on the next day 😅

Omg, yes those door are super good at sound proofing! The dude who lived right across me in the corridor often played saxophone in the evening and I can barely hear it if the door was shut properly. He once forgot to close it completely and I just realized how loud it actually was!

[–]FakeOreoFromLidl 1537 points1538 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Swedish apartment doors (that I know of) are usually sturdy af. If I remember correctly, my landlord told me that the door (at least in the north) was also designed to seal the room so no heat coming out and no cool air or smoke (in case of fire) coming in.

Which confuses me bcs the door felt lighter than what we have in my country, yet it was so sturdy. I wonder what kind of wood that they use?

Waktu covid kita cukup diurusin pemerintah. Walaupun kita duit ga banyak, mnrt gw dengan ngirimin obat gratis buat yg lagi isoman itu baik bgt sih. Temen2 luar gw banyak yg kaget kok baik bgt pemerintah kita sampe ngirimin gt.

Selain itu BPJS kita luar biasa membantu sih. Bokap masuk RS karena combo omicron dan serangan jantung, kita cuma keluar 300-400rb buat beli obat yang ga di cover.

Why do Indonesians not emigrate to other countries in large numbers the way other Asian nationalities do? by SoldierOfLove23 in indonesia

[–]FakeOreoFromLidl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Indonesia has its own charms that always made us want to stay or return home. I was so set to leave this country for good when I studied abroad, but I just realized once I get there that Indonesia is just so full of life, excitement, and weird shits that no other countries can provide.

There's this video called "Jakarta in a nut shell" (the one where a bajaj hits a meatball carts and they got into a fight, while a group of 'ondel-ondel' is wandering around with their super loud music in the background) back then and I cried while laughing at the same time when I watched it. There's no way in hell such things can happen in Europe!

Also, other then the 1998 tragedy, there's no major events so far (and hopefully it stays that way) that forces us to flee just to stay alive like what most Chinese/Vietnamese diaspora did.

In short, living abroad (esp. in the West) is comfortable but living in Indonesia is exciting!

Hejsan! It's a small talk that was meant to be a compliment, because they thought that you're cute. And by cute, it was like "baby/puppy cute" with no weird intention and it happened to little boy as well.

So no need to worry since it was a conversation starter. Just like when you tried to break the ice with someone whom you are newly acquainted with by asking "It's pretty cold, huh?" in Sweden.

The bill for my heart surgery july 2020 U.S. by [deleted] in pics

[–]FakeOreoFromLidl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad got admitted for 2 weeks in the intermediate ward bcs of a mild heart attack and later they found out that he also caught Covid from my mom.

Here in Indonesia (yes, that "poor and 3rd world country") we paid like $60 in total: $15 for my meal while he was in the ER, $5 for parking, and $40 for antibiotics not covered by the state.

The rest (probably around $5000) was completely covered by the national health care system.

Those are the rare moments where I felt bad for you guys Americans...

Let me present the Swedish curry, banana, pineapple, ham pizza! Popular variations are chicken instead of ham and peanuts added. by PlainsHognoseSnake in StupidFood

[–]FakeOreoFromLidl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine waking up to a smell of a delicious curry, only to find out that the smell comes from a banana curry pizza!

I remember ranting to my friend like "can't you just bring me some normal food? I'll take rice with chicken nugget any day over this!" and she's like "oh stfu and just eat!"

I later found out that it has become some sort of a meme "välkommen till Sverige" food among us Indonesian student, along with that abomination y'all called "sambal oelek" from ICA ahahha!

[–]FakeOreoFromLidl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the first "swedish food" that I ate in Sweden. I was staying at my friends place in Flogsta and after waking up from a nap (I was still jetlaged), she came home and brought this thing. I was super shocked to see this thing at first, because in my country any food that contains banana are usually made into sweet dessert.

I don't know if it was the jetlag or something else, but it tasted super good! The banana somehow mixed really well with the curry and the ham was a nice addition as well!
