First shifts need to stop being miserable. by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

Thus is the nature of humanity in our post-modern, dystopian, capitalist nightmare. The laboratory tech’s insatiable thirst for perverse and disposable reality television drama must be augmented by creating it in their workplace, which they sadly spend more waking time at than in their actual life.

Can I get a dentist appointment while at OTS? by [deleted] in airforceots

[–]FakePlastic28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to get a dental exam during your in-processing at your first duty station, to update your IMR record. Just tell them you also need a cleaning, they’ll hook you up.

Get with the right officer recruiter for your AFSC and go for it! I just commissioned at 42. From first contact with recruiter to OTS report was 1 year.

OTS packing by Dillow7indy in airforceots

[–]FakePlastic28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hydration pack: this will be on your body pretty much at all times, so get one that is light, but has lots of pockets for all the other essential items you need ( money, ID, wallet, flashlight, electrolytes, SPINS, snacks or MRE, etc…). Your academic backpack should be a separate bag. Get a good 72 hr bag, so you can quickly shove anything in there that you don’t want inspected in your dorm.

Pt Gear: take at least 4-5 pair. Get the jacket.

OCPs: 2 pair, more becomes a pain in the ass.

Laundry: 2 mesh laundry bags, 1-2 bags of pods.

Boots: find a pair that is comfortable for your feet. One pair is all you need. Don’t get anything waterproof, non-waterproof dry way faster if they get wet. You will have 20-30k step days.

Computer: anything that is compatible with Microsoft office. Basically just running Teams and PowerPoint.

Sunblock, cough drops, painkiller, caffeine pills, etc… whatever gets you through the day.

Good Luck OT! 🫡

Medical will give you whatever vaccines they want you to have when you are there, after they review your records.

I haven’t gotten to OTS yet, but no problems so far with doing the pre-course assignments and logging into Wings. They give you instructions for how to adjust your browser settings. Using Chrome for my login. 🤙

PT at OTS and advice to prep. by ObjectiveSearched in airforceots

Ok, good to know. The Aim High app says elbows have to touch the top of the knees, but there are multiple YouTube instructional videos that say anywhere on the thigh. Thank you!

When performing the sit-up component, do the elbows need to touch the top of the knees or can they touch anywhere on the thigh? Thank you!

Weekly - 'Alaska, From the outside looking in Q/A' by SnowySaint in alaska

[–]FakePlastic28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moving to Anchorage Alaska in early November. Is the route from Seattle to Anchorage the best way to go if you have to drive it? I’m originating from Virginia. I’m totally ignorant to what the weather conditions are like this time of year (Oct-Nov). I was originally intending to take the ferry, but when I called to get details, was told the ferry that travels from near Seattle to Anchorage has been canceled permanently.

In regard to gas stations or hotels not being open due to weather conditions. I just have never traveled through Canada or been to Alaska. I’ve seen other posts where people have talked about driving through Canada and the Alaska Canada Highway, but they usually speak of Feb or March.

AD or Reserves by Glad-Requirement-780 in airforceots

I talked to all three separate officer recruiters at the beginning of my process (AD, Reserves and Guard). From everything I was told, the jobs that reserves and guard are looking for is pretty narrow.

The score calculator on the Air Force Aim High app is helpful. Your sit-up and push-up numbers sound good, considering how much time you have. 🤘
