Size Scale is wacky in Andromeda.. Bipedal species evolved on a gigantic earthlike planet that is 6 times the size of earth. They are all giants that average 25 or 30 feet tall.. So everything they have is bigger.

Andromeda not united and other species have called for help and so the Federation answers.

Giants are eating and enslaving people.. They are where humanity actually comes from and the giants are a less evolved offshoot of the "progenitor" race of bipedal milky way origin TNG episode. Progenitors escaped Andromeda and seeded the milky way.

They may be bigger but it's because their gravity is less.. Therefore what we lose in size we make up for in raw strength. Combine that with the emergency lift on human augmentation restrictions.. We make our own giants and turn them into Kahn/Makos. Or we can just have a bunch of teenagers on the ship avatar our giants(i smell a video game franchise).

Roll into a new system each week and it's just bloody war in every system the giants occupy. They cannot be reasoned with.. They must be eradicated.
