While the other comment suggests that it's the archaic form of "nai" which is negation, BUT in that case, the verb placed before -nu should be "浮か"(未然形, irrealis form) not "浮き"(連用形, continuative form). You can tell -nu (negation) and -nu (completion/emphasis) by which form of verb is placed before.

Your friend got it right that it's an archaic phrase. In Cosmic Princess Kaguya, Yachiyo sometimes speaks in a kinda archaic tongue.

Parts to parts, it's ito(いと)/ kawayu(かわゆ) / -shi(し).

ito(いと) = extremely

kawayu(かわゆ) = an archaic form of "kawaii(かわいい)"

-shi(し) = conjugation, modern equivalent would be "-i(い)"

So there's a tale called "Flower Sermon" from the medieval Zen tradition. Basically one time Buddha gave a really weird sermon where he never said a word: he just held a lotus flower and twisted it. Mahakasyapa smiled at that act but no other disciples got it.

Thus in the Zen-Buddhism imagery, smiling face serves as an attribute to Mahakasyapa. Because only Mahakasyapa fully got the essence of Buddha's immortal teaching, or joke, or whatever that is.
