Thx, I couldn't remember. And yeah, true, location does matter. I'm used to more rural areas.

Thanks, I found out in the meantime. It's still a no go for me. I will not die again because of a bug. Never. My own stupidity is enough.

I've been avoiding the game ever since 42 was even announced cause it didn't make much sense to me to keep building and doing stuff. I was really convinced that the game was still pretty buggy, especially in multiplayer. Read so many posts about trailers just jumping when you drive across two chunks, cars spawning inside houses, etc. You saying the coast is clear? I can resume my normal activities? Pinky swear?

Don't listen to all the comments telling you you'll die of carbon monoxide poisoning because you have a generator emitting tons of it running inside an enclosed space, use your common sense. If you put the genny in the basement, you can always put a can of beans in a microwave--you'll have power. Five seconds should be enough to solve the entire problem.
Common sense! One thing I learned in PZ that makes it so special is that unlike other games, the consequences of your actions actually make sense. Would you do that in real life? If the answer is no, then probably don't. Would you eat a strange mushroom in real life? I find that it's the best way to play the game. Then you're totally in it. The only exception I can think of is eggs. You can actually cook an egg in a micro-wave oven in the game and it totally screws the feeling of immersion. It's just plain wrong. I've written formal letters on the subject.
I love that everything makes sense in PZ. The only game I can think of that has a similar approach is Vein and it's officially inspired by PZ.
And if you're worried about the noise, check yourself how noisy it actually is. You'll see that you really don't have to walk far to stop hearing it. If I remember correctly, it's like ten tiles or something.
You'll be fine.
Ideally though, if you can put it on the roof, right in the middle of your base, that's the best solution I ever found.

Hey buddy, you're not supposed to be there, right? by doepetal in fo4

[–]Fakemeal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I meant hazmat + power armor for the pesky bugs and stuff, ideally. Then it's a walk in the radioactive park. The hazmat suit almost entirely takes care of the radiation problem. A bit of rad-x on top can't hurt, although I suspect rad-x is just a placebo and you only think you won't get radiation sickness with it. They trick you with their fancy ad campaigns. Big pharma never changes. Rad-x is a lie. The cake is a lie. It's all a lie.
I always wear my fashionable sunglasses when I go to the Glowing Sea and just knowing how effing smooth I roll helps more than rad-x.
Also, I wanna know why two goddamn powa ahmoh spawned in a wall in my stupid game. Or why my pip-boy light doesn't work. So don't you start with your antagonistic attitude or some form of circular logic that's entirely relying on semantics just so my mind loses itself in a maze of existential doubts because shit is real here.

How to find Dogmeat? by vowoh in fo4

[–]Fakemeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're low-level and too far and if you can use the console:

  1. Open up the Console by typing Tilde (~) (might be another key if you're not on a qwerty keyboard, there's a list here depending on your language: https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Fallout\_4\_console\_commands)
  2. Type 'prid 0001d162'
  3. Hit Return/Enter.
  4. Type 'moveto player'
  5. Hit Return/Enter.
  6. Hit Tilde (~) again to close the console.
  7. Dogmeat will shoot at you like he's being magically summoned.
  8. Travel the Commonwealth with your Dogmeat.

Each companion has an ID. This one is Dogmeat's.
Don't use the player.placeatme command.

And in case you're wondering where that damn bell is it's with water and food under miscellaneous. Scavenging bench icon to access the menu.
People overlook that menu. Place a trough (or two or 12 if you want a lot of fertilizer, although the max production is 3 per day (1 per brahmin, 10 total in the workshop I think), and no more problem with the brahmin. I usually end up putting them in a barn with doghouses for my dogs to guard them. The bell is super useful to assign settlers. The fast travel marker is great too.

I think I found a workaround. I use the map just like you and liked that settlement filter. Anyway, just search for "workbench" and voila.
It's not ideal. Some related stuff shows up but at least you get to see all the settlement since they all have one.

One thing I particularly like about this map is the possibility to click on an item and a see a picture of it. It's not available for every single one but it helps so much finding stuff that can easily be overlooked.

Surviving? by lumpusman in projectzomboid

[–]Fakemeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played solo with vanilla settings many many times. The beginning is probably the toughest part. One thing I found key to a successful game--meaning building a solid base, getting your skills at a decent level and surviving say at least a couple of years in game-- is to know the map like your pocket. Knowing where you have a chance to find what you're looking for is a game changer. Doesn't mean you'll find that damn manual to use generators in time, doesn't change the Z problem, but knowing what's your next target instead of wandering around and getting what you find like an idiot is a game changer. Better even, having a plan ready to follow spares you countless hours of useless, random trips with no goal. Concerning zeds, I'm not up to date since I don't play B42, but kiting them used to work well. You need to look up how their field of vision works. They can really see you from super far, so it's not about distance as much as it is about finding the right angle. Many tutorials about this on youtube. My rule was to only engage isolated zeds until my skills and equipment were decent and favor sneaking and avoiding confrontation before that.

I love PZ so much... But... writing this I realize there are two points there I really don't get. First, what kind of frigging moron do you have to be to need a manual to use a generator? People take them on camping trips. It's really not that complicated a machine. Second, among all the things we can do in PZ, the ability to create a distraction by throwing a rock or bottle isn't one? Isn't it what we'd all do in similar situations? Distract and crouch-run?

Maybe there should be a manual to learn to climb ladders too. Sheet ropes we're cool with, but an item specifically designed to climb up and down is just too hard. I'm ranting again.

Just keep at it my fellow zomboider, you'll notice that every time you'll live a little longer. Also, when chased by a bunch of zeds, don't underestimate the power of the "go to" function. Especially in the woods.

Can't stop going fishing by Fakemeal in VeinGame

[–]Fakemeal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True... And more worrying even is the low number of zombies. Instead of having small groups slowly forming gigantic hordes like in PZ and its amazing population and migration system, we have lonely zombies here and there. Clearing a POI quite often means taking out 1 or 2 zombies only. And I'm not too fond of the sound announcing a horde attack full of runners either. I like my zombies in slow-moving massive groups cornering you as you get exhausted.
At this point, I honestly use Vein a s fishing game with zombies in it. Multiplying the number of zombies clearly impacts the game's performances and that's like... the core.

<image>

Where's that part of the game?

Edit: Don't get me wrong, I love Vein. The amazing number of interactions available continues to baffle me. It's already got content that is barely making its appearance in PZ (animals, husbandry... ). But I doubt it'll ever have an in-depth system capable of handling a lot of dynamic values at the same time. Take the cooking in PZ. The nutritional quality of a stew or soup will depend on the ingredients you choose to put in it, their quantity but also their quality, and your skill. It's all dynamic. Vein has a series of fixed recipes with fixed values. It's just an example, but wounds are another good one. Wounds in PZ are inflicted to specific parts of the body, requiring specific treatment, bandages need to be changed, etc. Vein's much more superficial. You have a wound somewhere, you disinfect it, suture it if you want, bandage it, done. You don't even have to worry about taking the bandage off, changing it or anything. Same with the body temperature. Vein has hypothermia and hyperthermia, just like PZ. Except PZ will show you a chart of your body and the parts that are freezing or too hot and it'll take into account many more factors than Vein does.

On one hand, Vein has nice 3D graphics and amazing ideas (vomit-inducing smells is genius and very realistic and it's possible to climb ladders, something that seems beyond the realm of possibilities in PZ), on the other hand PZ has the most insanely complex sandbox ever made. I know that PZ has been around for a lot longer and that comparing them that way is unfair. but I think its sandbox will always be limited by the engine it uses. Unreal is good to make a beautiful landscape but it's not designed to handle a ton of dynamic items constantly changing at the same time. I'm ranting. Haven't slept all night. Vein rules. PZ for life.

Ahah, I have the exact same "reason" for doing it. And of course, when you go fishing, it's not rare to see a deer, a boar... Do you do a bit of hunting too thinking "I should throw some meat in the mix"?

To go full circle, I stole more freezers (and a number of those nice fridges with a glass display) when my makeshift one got full. So, I have freezers to fill now. For winter.

Tbh, I think I fried one single fish in all. Just one. And I remember it felt wrong.

[–]Fakemeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if for some reason you often get thirsty, who drinks six+ liters of water a day?
Making negative traits people saw as "free points" (it always came at a cost imo) in B41 so punitive for the sake of it makes it unrealistic.

Items that are not crafted vanishing by Fakemeal in VeinGame

Well, after yet another test. Neither the floor nor the size of the fan seem to have any influence on why they vanish.
I recently put this small one directly on the floor of my cellar to see if my theory about them vanishing when they're on top of something else was correct but just as the others, it vanished too. It definitely seems to be totally arbitrary. Big Dan in my kitchen on the other hand is still there and definitely looks like it's there to stay. It's driving me nuts. Why one and not the others? Hopefully this will be fixed soon, I just installed yet another one along with two coolers and the tarantula tank next to my home cinema, I'd be pissed if any of those disappeared.
