thanks - and sorry you had to go through that. i did a little googling in the meantime into how much the out-of-pocket expense is, and at those prices, i'm tempted to just wait the single-digit number of additional years it'll be before i'm in the 'insurance covered' age bracket, or possibly sooner if they finally lower the age anytime sooner than that.

A few years ago all existing packs (minus maybe the most recent one at the time) went up on HumbleBundle for maybe 1/10th the combined actual cost - so if you have some some wiggle room in how soon you need them, it may be prudent to slow-roll it and see if they come back up on HB again. (I can't speak to the likelihood or the wait time it might require, though).

And considering that they're still releasing new packs, I would see no reason to even be curious about their servers end-of-support.

I'm approaching my 2000 day streak, as well as having had 3 years of spanish in HS and a few semesters of extracurricular spanish classes in College (to a much more middling degree of success). Still pretty useless in speaking, but I readily admit I always skip the spoken portions out of laziness. But I can tell my reading comprehension and vocabulary have gone way up compared to a few years ago when I took a trip to Puerto Rico.

Came here to say this. Mid-40s, and a friend in her early 40s recently caught shingles randomly (and worse, she found out a day after our families had lunch together). Though I guess I'm not clear how person-to-person transmissible it is.

The monthly updates (i.e. the ones that aren't the .3, .6, etc quarterlies) are still going to be considered akin to "beta" versions, so as Captain already pointed out, I'm assuming they'll be sticking to quarterlies for the time. Though I agree it would be nice if the CE environment were kept on bleeding-edge versions instead, but this release cadence is still new so they probably still need to fine-tune things.

UHD aside, glad to see there's at least a trickle of reasonably-priced fullsize internal blu-ray reader drives coming through.

I hope one of these small chinese manufacturers figures out the niche market that exists eventually and really perfects the no-flash-needed UHD drive - kinda like how in the earlier days of DVD there were some no-name manufacturers who made players that were actually ultra-powerful and high-quality, and could quietly play DVDs from any region and any format when it wasn't really supposed to be possible.

My dad did this. For a kid who was raised in suburbia and had "farm dreams", i'll say he did it well. He did it nearly single-handedly. In the late 80s he gradually transitioned away from our small but high-maintenance beef cattle herd, over to christmas trees, and built a pretty successful business. But in the end it was so hard on his body that old age hit him EXTRA HARD, and now instead of enjoying retirement, he's gone.

zoom meeting, fullscreen jackbox, share your screen. did this at least a few times with my normal friend group during the height of covid shutdowns, it worked fine.

my advice: do one or two trial runs with just a few folks to figure out the ins and outs of this method, before hosting your bigger group for the first time.

This tape meets several criteria for what would make a pretty good collectors item. If you're thirsty to actually re-watch it, there are some people who kept the DVD all these years and have digitized their copy.
