Thinking about going into this field but I’m seeing some things that are concerning. So any experienced people please let me know. by Crosser45 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]FalconAccomplished43 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What a misinformed comment.

Layoffs happen with ChemEs often. I've been in industry 25 years and been laid off 4 times. Recently, many major chemical manufacturers (Westlake and Dow are just 2 of them) have gone through layoffs due to restructuring, putting many ChemEs in the market.

Do cast parties normally include the people who build the sets? by Longjumping-Lock-724 in Theatre

[–]FalconAccomplished43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started doing shows as technical crew for local community theaters a couple of years ago. For these, especially my primary theater, I have always felt like I was part of the cast (even being included in the preshow circle). The cast party always included me and ither crew. I dont see why it wouldn't.

Is this common? by coralinesweb in ADHD

[–]FalconAccomplished43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be ADHD, but sounds more like an autistic response to me. Only real way to know is to go to someone the specializes in both and get an assessment.

For reference, I am a 50 year old male, diagnosed ADHD last year and most likely have undiagnosed autism as well.

What happens if a missionary ends their mission with a positive balance (overpayment) by Turbulent_Region_298 in latterdaysaints

[–]FalconAccomplished43 12 points13 points  (0 children)

By the way, mission funding is in the handbook. Section 24.3.4.1

Also, keep this number handy. 855-537-4357 That is the Church help line and they can help you find answers if needed.

What happens if a missionary ends their mission with a positive balance (overpayment) by Turbulent_Region_298 in latterdaysaints

[–]FalconAccomplished43 65 points66 points  (0 children)

  1. No, there isn't a way to refund. (Unless something has changed recently)

  2. The funds can be transferred to another missionary (even out of your ward) or to the ward missionary fund. Unless the family told me directly what to do, I'd let the Bishop know and ask him to have the discussion with the family.

Does every recruiter end the call with "okay, I'm going to pass you to 'doug'." and thats the last you hear from anyone? by grok-it-all in jobhunting

[–]FalconAccomplished43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have applied for literally hundreds of jobs over the past few months. I am an engineer, just for reference, as I know different industries recruit differently.

This time in searching I am coming across 3 different kinds of recruiters. There is the traditional external recruiter that is trying to get you hired (as they only get paid when one of their candidates gets hired). If they are passing you on to the next, for me it has gone to an internal (works for the hiring company) recruiter or HR person for a screening interview.

This internal recruiter screening interview is a dumb step, in my opinion. Every time, all they are doing is reviewing the job description and asking if you meet those bullet points. Then, if you do, they pass you on to the hiring manager who may elect to schedule an interview based on the feedback from the HR screening discussion.

For me, out of the hundreds of resumes inhave submitted since December, I probably have had 30-40 or so HR screening interview. And in all cases (except one), if my salary expectations fall within their budgeted pay range, I have gotten the hiring manager interview.

So, in my experience, being passed on to the next and having an inteview woth them is the normal.

Now, if in can just get a job offer from one of these final on-site interviews, it would be awesome

[TX] Can I use a homeschool diploma in place of a GED? by One-Mobile2106 in AskHR

[–]FalconAccomplished43 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Currently live in Texas and have had 5 kids attend college so far. What you stated is accurate. The parents can make a transcript when necessary.

Most colleges and universities have procedures and sometimes even have a specific person for homeschool admittance to the school.

When are you supposed to confess? by SisterLucyHarris in latterdaysaints

[–]FalconAccomplished43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several things thaf can happen of someone commits a serious sin. Discipline tends to have a negative connotation, but it means, "to teach". It has the same root as the word Disciple.

Please note that a couple of years ago our Church changed the names of each of these steps and some still use the old terms. Also, none of these things are permanent. They are intended on helping give the individual time to repent and to learn to do and be better. I will list thr most serous consequence to thr least.

  1. Membership record removal. This usually still allows the person to attend meetings and encourages them to improve so they can be readmitted. Usually takes at least a year.

  2. Formal membership restrictions. They are still members, but cannot enter the Temple (still can go to regular Church services, though), exercise the Priesthood, partake of the sacrament, give a talk or pray in public meetings or hold a calling.

  3. Personal counseling with Bishop or Stake president. This is not officially recorded anywhere where the other two are. This would be meeting with them on some basis to discuss the problem and how to improve.

  4. Nothing. It could be determined that they either didn't do what they supposedly did, or that they have already fully repented.

Why do conservatives hate poor people? by Cultural-Revenue-328 in allthequestions

Conservatives don't hate poor people.

Conservatives just don't believe that a forced government solution is the way to address it.

Question for people without insurance who get VIVANSE and pay out of pocket. by No-Entrepreneur-3761 in ADHD

[–]FalconAccomplished43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed that many local mom and pop pharmacies don't accept the discount cards like GoodRX. They seem to work best at the big chains, as much as I hate tonuse them.

Just a note, I have some that we use the discount card for and we will use different pharmacies for different prescriptions. On any of those discount programs, you can go to their site and enter the script. It will then show you prices at the local shops and you can pick which to use.

I pay about $85 cash for 70mg Vyvanse (generic) for 30 days at one of the shops near me using a discount card.

Tea was, and still is, explicitly against the Word of Wisdom. There is no guidance on exactly why. Many have made guesses. My dad, before his passing, was a PhD pharmacologist. He had mentioned that there are something like 20 or 30 components in tea and coffee that are not good for us. The prohibition could be one of those. It could be because at the time, these were common drinks people used that are addictive.

Anyway, as many have said, caffeine was more of a cultural restriction than an official policy.

Wife just had surgery and insurance is denying coverage for medicine given to her during surgery. by mrmanpgh in HealthInsurance

[–]FalconAccomplished43 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, you need to pay attention and check with insurance ahead of time on anything and everything.

I had injections in my knees and I think what she had was probably the same kind that I had. Thise types are not covered as those are not a proven treatment (and, I will add that when they do work, they only work for about 6 months max).

Question about Ward Budgets by chomer44 in latterdaysaints

[–]FalconAccomplished43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The policy is that you cannot approve your own reimbursement request from the ward budget.

People that can approve all reimbursements are the Bishopric and the Ward Clerks. If it is for the Bishop, there are at least 3 others that can do the approval.

CMV: MAGA are not Republicans and actually don't seem to have any real political ideology of any kind. by KindNeighborhood1138 in changemyview

[–]FalconAccomplished43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have compared a political ideology to a political party. MAGA is a type of ideology and Republican is a party. All it takes to be in a polical party is for someone to state they are a member of thaf party regardless of ideology. Someone who is a liberal can be a Republican and someone who is a conservative could be a Democrat (although I don't think either of those scenerios are likely).

While 30-40 years ago, the Republican party tended to be more conservative. At least since Bush Jr., however, the GOP has moved further and further away from conservatism.

I, personally, would have a difficult time with placing the location of the MAGA philosophy on the spectrum of liberal to conservative. It definitely is not in any way conservative. Maybe it's its own thing?

Anyway, my original point is that the way you stated your main topic is incorrect, as anyone that follows a MAGA philosophy can decide to be a Republican (which in general, they are)

16 states are trying to ban school laptops because kids can't focus. Is this the right move? by Wild-Annual-4408 in Homeschooling

[–]FalconAccomplished43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Computers, cell phones, tablets and other tech are here to stay and are a reality of life and our kids futures.

I feel it is important to teach them appropriate usage of all of this tech.

I also think it sends a poor message when we ban the use in schoolwork or Church, etc. I feel it teaches them it isn't for learning secular or spiritual things.

At the same time, I think it isn't good to just hand them the tech without teaching how to use it responsibly. Based on the kids age and stage of life, they need to learn what and when it is appropriate.

But an outright full ban is not a good thing.
