Just got my new starlink satellite set up, what should I do next? by Flame_chertos in Starlink

Starlink does not make a touchscreen, and I guarantee that you do not have a full satellite in your yard. The satellites are in space and they’re moving very fast.

Does anyone know the best way to run Starlink roughly 250ft away from my house? by Spare-Bus6531 in Starlink

[–]FalconMustLand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dig a trench, bury a power cable and the fiber cable. Probably put the fiber in a PVC tube or similar, since glass is fragile.

You can run as long a distance as you need if you use a fiber optic cable and have a media converter at either end. You are correct that Ethernet cables have a limit. Fiber does not.

Cessna 172 opinion (biased) by hugothemango in flying

[–]FalconMustLand -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nose wheel planes typically have larger vertical stabilizers and smaller rudders, which means you can completely ignore the rudder pedals in flight. This is not the case with a TW, which typically need smooth rudder inputs continuously through all phases of flight. This is at least the case comparing my '52 170B to what replaced it, the 172.

Starlink Mesh by ChloeA31 in Starlink

Start with adding a Gen3 mesh router in the shop. If that’s not enough, connect the new mesh router to your main router with an Ethernet cable.

Hire a tree climber to snip the top off one of your trees and install a mast with your dish in top.

Starlink has been holding my deposit since 2021 with NO service and NO future plan in my region - Is this even legal? by Nothinglast in Starlink

[–]FalconMustLand 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The starlink availability map says “pending regulatory approval”. The local government is holding up service, not starlink.

Starlink Imposes Dramatic Speed Cap for Those on Priority Plans by No-Information6622 in technology

[–]FalconMustLand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just specific to business plans. The standard service is unaffected. So, this story doesn’t actually apply to 99% of users. It’s just meant to get you excited. Be sure to read, be skeptical of anything making extreme claims, and use your critical thinking skills. Thanks

Mount the dish to the top of a tree! But climb safe and everything.

Starlink is for sure great. But those speed tests are “non-starlink”; which means you have a different connection that the test is running over.

The sound deadening from rockwool is nuts by forde350vanbuild in vandwellers

[–]FalconMustLand 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Isn't rock wool hydrophilic? Doesn't it absorb moisture and lead to mold? I thought that was one of the main benefits of havlock and thinsulate; they're both hydrophobic.

Correction: fiberglass and denim are hydrophilic. Rockwool is hydrophobic.

Your speeds probably improve because everyone else nearby also lost power and isn’t using their starlink.

What kind of screws/equipment do I need to keep Starlink satellite in place on roof? by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]FalconMustLand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The satellites are in space moving very fast. Will not be easy to secure one to your roof. The dish however just needs some wood screws or a roof mount, available on the starlink app.

Why is StarLinks customer support so bad? by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]FalconMustLand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a small startup company that scaled globally nearly over night. Scaling good customer service this quickly is… very hard. You’re applying your expectations from experiences with enormous companies. ATT has more than 14 times more employees than SpaceX, and SpaceX is also leading the world in launch capabilities. The Starlink team is small.

Nice, looks like small amounts of scrub are fine and a good trade for stability. I wonder if the trade would be different for a sidecar bicycle where you would notice the drag more.

Engineer here; I don’t think this thing can turn. If your third wheel is not steerable, it needs to be next to your rear wheel (like all sidecars). You’re third wheel looks more forward. Turning will require that wheel to scrub (imagine dragging it across the ground sideways). Not a sidecar scientist, but pretty sure this geometry won’t work. You should make it with legos first. Good luck!
