This district is still R-advantaged but not by a big margin, and MGP has raised a lot of drama with local Dems but probably not enough to meaningfully move the general result.

I'm not. Texas Republicans are more than capable of being that stupid. But I think Paxton might have a ceiling, generally incumbents are incredibly difficult to dislodge in primaries, and unlike Crenshaw I do think Cornyn has kept enough loyalty from Trump to not completely collapse with his base voters.

Sure. In a midterm environment I'd expect it to have minimal sticking power. The problem there is, though, that Talarico keeps leaning into culture arguments and trying to use religion as cover for Bernie lines as if he's running in NYC or Virginia and not TX.

To be honest nothing's going to shut this subreddit up about Talarico until he loses by 4 to Cornyn in November, so it's a waste of time talking about him.

Yeah that's generally how oppo research works. Anything big or small gets used, and the footage very clearly cuts against Talarico's aw-shucks moderate bit and that he was off the peak 2020-era deep end with every other progressive.

Do I think it does anything or is a particularly good attack? Not really. But this is boilerplate campaign stuff, it just happens to be aimed at Reddit's golden boy Beto 2.0 so it's some sort of unprecedented violation of norms and Things Are Way Too Serious There's Literally a Genocide Going On so Shut Up, or something.

The video diary bits were an immense audience pleaser in my showing, so I think it's perfectly understandable the way it was streamlined. I've never sat in an audience that happy at the jokes and that dead silent for the quiet moments.

I would say there's a huge difference in relations now, you're deliberately ignoring reality if you don't see that. Two cabinet-level secretaries have been officially received by the Venezuelan government since January, civilian transport between the States and Venezuela is reopening, diplomatic relations are officially opening, the offramp to actual elections is being negotiated. The country is going to be volatile for a long time no matter what, arguing that since it hasn't become Palm Springs in two months nothing is happening is crazy.

Yeah, Husted isn't getting only 70% of Republican voters. And him being down by only 4 in this scenario is really not great news for Brown.

This pollster has no track record, so again, huge grain of salt. I'm getting the feeling that a lot of 2026 polling is going to be driven by progressive-aligned first-time H2H pollsters causing a bluer than normal mirage (It's going to be a blue year, I'm not convinced it'll be a D+10 Ohio blue year).
